Rush Limbaugh joins Twitter

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host who launched a firestorm earlier this month by calling a law student derogatory terms, joined Twitter Thursday.

Tweeting at the handle @Limbaugh, the host began his foray into the social networking site by sending out links to articles criticizing the liberal group Media Matters.

“Good story by @jeff_poor @DailyCaller. He gets it right, @mmfa wrong as usual. Read and Retweet.” The message linked to an article at the conservative website The Daily Caller.

On his radio program Thursday, Limbaugh explained his decision to start using his Twitter account.

“I've decided to actually activate it now and use it for strategic purposes since it has become such an effective means of informing people outside the bounds of this program,” Limbaugh explained.

He said the “retweet” function, which allows users to post another person’s message with one click, had the potential for “saturating the ‘Twitterverse.’”

One thing he won’t divulge on Twitter, however, are his meals.

“I'm not gonna be hanging on Twitter fifteen hours a day and tweeting, ‘I just had breakfast! I hope you have a wonderful day! Bye! Here's a picture of me eating some corn flakes!’ None of that stuff. You don't need to be worrying about that. No, it's just things I want people to see.”

As of Thursday evening, Limbaugh had amassed over 100,000 followers on the site.

Earlier this month Limbaugh generated a swirl of controversy after calling a law student who testified at a Democratic hearing on Capitol Hill a "slut" and a "prostitute." He later apologized to the student, but some of his advertisers and stations airing his program were quick to drop their support.

The major difference between Limbaugh and Maher is Limbaugh slandered an innocent person. Palin is exactly what Maher said she is.

Rush Limbaugh is not an entertainer. Let's stop that lie. If he was just an" entertainer" the republilcans would call him out when he crossed the line but they won't because they are afraid of him. He's the spokesperson for the Republican Party. He's paid millions of dollars a year by Clear Channel to spread hatred of everyone that is not a far right conservative. Women, minorities, independents, Democrats. He divides us as Americans. I have let every advitiser on his show know I will no longer do business with them.

If you're paying attention to Limbaugh, you're a big part of what's wrong with America today.

Rush jam his astounding revelations about the satanic, godless liberals into 140 characters? Yeah. Right. That'll happen. Rush can't say "Good Morning" to someone in 140 characters. For those of you advocating boycotting Rush's advertisers, just Google "Rush Limbaugh Advertisers" and similar phrases. The full list is easily found.

I'm surprised it took him this long. Twitter is a propagandist's dream come true. Now his drone followers don't even have to type his words out. They can just retweet his endles lies.

Limbaugh is a parasite,.. he's making money and getting rich by spreading hate, lies, and dividing the country, by pitting Americans against Americans.

It's amazing how many people follow Rush, his audience is huge, so he makes money. The only way to get rid of
this guy is to sue Clear Channel to get him off the radio, not easy. If the sponsors end their support that might
be the end of him, but neither Maher or Limbaugh contribute any value to American discourse, they are both
fringey jerks with no class and an ignorant view of the world. Don't listen and dont watch

Rush will likely get a huge following because there are alot of misfits like himself out there in this world. These misfits have few options in the miaistream media to air their hate and venom so naturally they gravitate to folks like Rush to do the talking for them. Also Rush is hoping to affect an even wider audience than the lemings who tune in to his program everyday. What he clearly has not learned from time when he tried to become part owner of a football team, is that main stream society is made up of the different groups that he loves to hate and they want nothing to do with the negativity that he brings to the public discourse each day. People just want to live and don't want to deal with the burden of a Rush Limbaugh and by the way this is exactly why we have seen where Sarah Palin and Glen Beck have had their 15 minutes of fame come to an end – all of these folks are just too much.

Limbaugh is technically an entertainer. If not, then he would be in violation of several political advertising laws. [ Yeah, I know that's ridiculous. But, so are superPACs. Same difference. ] I agree that he is the unofficial spokesman for the right wing. But, Limbaugh always admonishes his listeners that he is a conservative, not a Republican. [ yeah, I know, it's that superPAC thing again. ]

Most liberal activists that I have heard refer to Limbaugh as a comedian, which is how his show actually began. Rush had a field day with Jimmy Carter and his brother Billy. His audience grew and the rest is history. Republicans did not call him out then, and they would not call him out today, or anyone for that matter, if he were a merely a comedian.

"If you're paying attention to Limbaugh, you're a big part of what's wrong with America today."

Indeed. And that applies to the "news" media itself more than any single individual. Limbaugh thanks you for his free advertising, CNN. No really. He loves you and the spotlight you shine on him and the false importance it gives him. Perhaps you should advertise CNN on his show as well and help him weather the storm.

Hooray for everyone! This is exactly what our world needs! I really think with the far-reaching capabilities of Rush Limbaugh's newly expanded internet presence, we can finally start making progress. Now more people who hadn't heard of Rush Limbaugh and his extraordinary vision for a new America, they can join in the fun! Now they can have instant dialogue with Rush himself, what a true honor! They can discuss all the progressive ideas Rush has for bringing cultures and people together for a common good, and his Christian message of tolerance and love! Maybe now with Rush on twitter, Americans will finally be able to move past racism and bigotry. Its truly a blessed day for us all!

So if you couldn't tell that paragraph was a satire then you should probably wear tin foil on your head so everyone knows who you are. And yes, it felt very strange writing it.

Limbaugh is in a way the unofficial entertainer for the republican party. Anyone here remember when then RNC chairman Michael Steele said something about Limbaugh and then had to apologize later. Republicans in office (senators, congressman) have no morals. He called a girl a slut and then asked for sex videos? Not only is this guy crazy, he is a pervert that the republicans cower too. Frankly, this is going to bite them bad. Obama 2012!!
