Rush Limbaugh joins Twitter

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host who launched a firestorm earlier this month by calling a law student derogatory terms, joined Twitter Thursday.

Tweeting at the handle @Limbaugh, the host began his foray into the social networking site by sending out links to articles criticizing the liberal group Media Matters.

“Good story by @jeff_poor @DailyCaller. He gets it right, @mmfa wrong as usual. Read and Retweet.” The message linked to an article at the conservative website The Daily Caller.

On his radio program Thursday, Limbaugh explained his decision to start using his Twitter account.

“I've decided to actually activate it now and use it for strategic purposes since it has become such an effective means of informing people outside the bounds of this program,” Limbaugh explained.

He said the “retweet” function, which allows users to post another person’s message with one click, had the potential for “saturating the ‘Twitterverse.’”

One thing he won’t divulge on Twitter, however, are his meals.

“I'm not gonna be hanging on Twitter fifteen hours a day and tweeting, ‘I just had breakfast! I hope you have a wonderful day! Bye! Here's a picture of me eating some corn flakes!’ None of that stuff. You don't need to be worrying about that. No, it's just things I want people to see.”

As of Thursday evening, Limbaugh had amassed over 100,000 followers on the site.

Earlier this month Limbaugh generated a swirl of controversy after calling a law student who testified at a Democratic hearing on Capitol Hill a "slut" and a "prostitute." He later apologized to the student, but some of his advertisers and stations airing his program were quick to drop their support.

What Limbaugh said about Sandra Fluke is slander....calling her a prostitute. Saying she was a "slut" is on a par with Bill Maher calling Palin the "c" word which is a derogatory word for part of a woman's anatomy and suggests that is all there is to her, and merely implies that is Maher's opinion of her.. A "slut" is someone who is promiscuous (which can be considered slander as well), but a prostitute is someone who gets paid for sex, which is illegal. Calling Sandra Fluke a prositute is slander because he can't say that is merely an "opinion". Sandra Fluke never said one word about personal use of birth control....., so Limbaugh saying she wants "to get paid for sex....and that makes her a prostitute", was both a lie and slanderous.
But Sandra Fluke has too much class to sue him. Too bad.

Finally, the downfall of Limbaugh. No one outside the "bounds of this program" cares about him. This can only create backlash for this unimportant mouth.

Twitter is a great place for the ignorant and uninformed to gather. Being a moderate I like Rush because he shines the spotlights on all of the extreme crazies, which is a reminder to the sane and educated that America does not vote on the fringe. What I want to know if if Rush give's any of his 400 plus million to charity? Oh, I forgot, he has been married 4 times and therefore pays all of his ex's $$$$$$$. What a family man!

"Rush used a poor choice of words but the point is no one should have to pay the price for someone else's choice to be promiscuous"

Rush used a horrible choice and defamed Ms. Fluke who NEVER testified that anyone "should have to pay the price for someone else's choice to be promiscuous". Do you know anything about truth or birth control pills?

When the activist Fluke went public, she became a public figure and spokeswoman. So as you highly educated Libs would say, makes her fair game, just like Sarah Palin, who was no longer a candidate for any office. Of course you fall back on the old Maher is a comic and making jokes. However they are sick and twisted. Limbaugh joked that since tax payers are supposed to pay for this woman's birth control pills (in order for her to have all the sex she wants at no risk) makes us all Johns. Get it?

The difference between Rush and Bill Maher is the former is the classic mindless chubby schoolyard bully and the latter is usually spot on, bright, funny and at times a little tasteless

Gee, "The Real Tom Paine" mimicing my postings. Yes, very "REAL"! Real pathetic ithat is!!! No original thoughts of your own today? Didn't get the daily talking points from the mothership?? Come on, crank up those two brain cells and give it a try!

kevin, you must be a Twitter user yourself, since its clear you don't know how to spell. Maher did defend Rush's right to free speech, as he defends everyone's rights to that: the responsibility of what you say is up to you, and rush is currently beign held accountable by the very market forces he so dearly defends.

    @ Get Real...

I trust then that you don't listen to right wing talk radio then because that is basically all they do...bash Obama, call progressives names, and attack those that disagree with them.
They are very lucky that the "Fairness Doctrine" has not been enacted because if it had they would have to battle their worst enemy....FACTS!!

When are we as Dems going to realize we are, for the most part, have a double standard? We argue about Rush, but leave Maher alone, we try to promote healthcare for the needy, but raise taxes to do so. We wont promote oil issues here, but blame the Middle East for gas prices. We have the entitlement disease that most low income people have that we are trying to help. Stop the insanity! We have to stop this spending to fix things mentality!! It's Crazy!

Or look at Rush's stance on global climate change, he was pushing that article about scientists saying there is no global warming... Just the smallest bit of research on the people who signed that statement will show you who's behind it. The lead guy doesn't believe asbestos causes cancer. Says it's a leftest ploy and asbestos is completely safe. Is that who the extremest want to follow, someone who is that out of touch with reality.... I guess so, cause Rush, their God, says it's true they believe it. This is why we have a dysfunctional government, the left represents big oil and they don't even know it, they buy into the bull hook, line and sinker!

    Fred,

No, I don't get it. Taxpayers don't have anything to do with health insurance benefits. And Ms FLuke didn't testify about her own healthcare. If someone who uses insurance benefits to pay for contraception is the subject of insults, how did Rush and his 4 wives manage not to become parents?

Dude. Thanks for the giggle. I absolutely love posts that say "I'm a [insert party affiliation]" and then proceed to regurgitate the other party's talking points. It's so convincing. Very fancy. Because, you know, liberals are all running around thinking thigns like "my my my, those poor people I want to help have, quote, entitlement disease, unquote."

I just want to know how the Great Bloviator will be able to limit himself to 140 characters. I know that is the total intellectual capacity of many of his listeners, and of his champion, The-Former-Governor-of-Alaska-Who-Quit-Before-Her-Term-Expired, but Rush needs at least 200 words to say anything.

Are some of these people children? They sure sound like it.

Oh come on PETER! I'm not saying conservatives are pure as the driven snow but really, have you ever heard the offensive garbage that comes out of the liberal machine or do you just shy away from it and pretend it's okay? I never hear as big an uproar as was directed at Rush so get serious when you make your comments.

@Joe from CT, not Lieberman–By using links to articles, Rush is working around the 140 character limit. Of course Rush has not taken his followers' literacy rates and propensity to read into account. They might have the attention span required to read a 140 character tweet, but one wonders if they can make it through a bunch of articles. Will many of them want to wade through tweets filled with what will seem to many to be abbreviated gibberish (don't forget a lot of his followers are old men)? It should be interesting to see how long this Twitter adventure will last.
