Rush Limbaugh joins Twitter

(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host who launched a firestorm earlier this month by calling a law student derogatory terms, joined Twitter Thursday.

Tweeting at the handle @Limbaugh, the host began his foray into the social networking site by sending out links to articles criticizing the liberal group Media Matters.

“Good story by @jeff_poor @DailyCaller. He gets it right, @mmfa wrong as usual. Read and Retweet.” The message linked to an article at the conservative website The Daily Caller.

On his radio program Thursday, Limbaugh explained his decision to start using his Twitter account.

“I've decided to actually activate it now and use it for strategic purposes since it has become such an effective means of informing people outside the bounds of this program,” Limbaugh explained.

He said the “retweet” function, which allows users to post another person’s message with one click, had the potential for “saturating the ‘Twitterverse.’”

One thing he won’t divulge on Twitter, however, are his meals.

“I'm not gonna be hanging on Twitter fifteen hours a day and tweeting, ‘I just had breakfast! I hope you have a wonderful day! Bye! Here's a picture of me eating some corn flakes!’ None of that stuff. You don't need to be worrying about that. No, it's just things I want people to see.”

As of Thursday evening, Limbaugh had amassed over 100,000 followers on the site.

Earlier this month Limbaugh generated a swirl of controversy after calling a law student who testified at a Democratic hearing on Capitol Hill a "slut" and a "prostitute." He later apologized to the student, but some of his advertisers and stations airing his program were quick to drop their support.

    I like what Rom Emmanuel said on TV today, where Chris Matthews showed a clip. Rom said "Romney can't stand up to Rush, how do you expect him to stand up to Russia?" The only thing that Willard is consistent at is LIES! The guy lies more than Sanctimonious and more than Newt, if that is possible! I really dislike all 3 of the candidates, and if I was a Repub I would have to vote for the current president!

    Love you Rush, I have joined your twit. Move on with the great job, your followers are growing and counting. All that say they are conservatives and yet criticize you on this site, we know know they are actually Democrats trying to give the GOP a bad image. We gotcha! Shame on the vile democratic Bill Maher, Letterman, Ed Schultz and the rest too numerous to mention.

    The Real Tom Paine – Four years of a so-called " job creator" left MA with a higher unemployment rate than when he started
    ==============================================================================================
    Governor of Mass from 2003 to 2007
    Unemployment rate in Jan. 2003 was 5.6%
    Unemployment rate in Jan. 2007 was 4.6%
    All facts easily found on the web. Any more lies you wish to post????
    =====================================================================================
    Actually "Nothing" your facts are misleading, Romney benefited from a booming global economy based on a real estate a financial industry bubble. What you fail to mention is that Romney lost 14% of manufacturing jobs during his tenure as governer. Also, the unemployment rate would have been much higher, local Mass economists say, were it not for the droves of young college graduates and residents who left the state to live in lower-cost areas. So actually it his efforts were medicore at best. When Governor Deval took over from him he faced the same HARSH GLOBAL economic conditions that BO faced and unemployment went up. If Romney was such a job creator he would have put in place a structural Plan through Policy that would have maintained a 4.7% unemployment rate. He did not. So please tell Nothing but the Truth and get it right!

    Rush Limbaugh is the price we pay for freedom of speech. His popularity is the price we pay for inadequate schools.

    Rush = Maher

    All I can say is that there are nuts on both sides of the spectrum. Anyone of the posts here you can substitut the name Maher with Rush with the same result. It is a shame either side puts up with their own.

    My guess is he was advised to do this by a damage control PR firm (aka "Crisis Management"). Sponsors are deserting him like rats off a sinking ship. He's hoping to rally his followers any way he can, but by the numbers, his listeners are much fewer than people who are protesting.

    This man is a misfit in society and this is the way he expresses himself. He has no decency,honor nor character.He makes a great deal of money by taking his listeners to the lowest possible area of their own thinking. Most people would not be able to listen to him berate others the way he does if they didn't enjoy hearing people put down and verbally destroyed. He will take this tack regularly with people who do not deserve his vitriol. Just how low can someone go before they destroy themselves and those around him??? He is to be pitied!!!! What a sad way to make a living!!!!!!!!!!

    If hardcore conservatives are ever to be more than the fringe and a sideshow, they will have to give up the likes of Limbaugh. He is too much of an embarassment and cannot be defended. Other than people who profit from Limbaugh only the "stupid" continue to suport him. The same goes for Glen Beck. They are not entertainers, they are dangerous.

    Just another 'Unfact Checked' Republican boss man informant. The lack of real computer skills by the AM Radio and Faux News users this late in the political process is testament to their lack of real people contact.

    @Truth – the percentages may be somewhat correct, BUT -- hundreds of Mass. companies shut down and moved to other states. The people went where there was work, thus reducing the denominator and giving false impressions. Typical FOX – give only the portion YOU want to give.

    48,000 jobs lost in 4 years PLUS Romney was Out of the State 200 days his last year.
