Washington (CNN) – It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without a pint of Guinness, even for the commander-in-chief.
President Barack Obama’s motorcade made the mile-and-a-half trip to the The Dubliner, a well-known Capitol Hill pub, at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday – early by normal standards, but just on time for most St. Patrick’s Day partiers.

The president enjoyed a Guinness, a classic (if slightly uninspired) choice for the holiday, and spent time shaking hands with other pub-goers, many of whom were wearing green top hats and wigs. At one point he raised his pint to toast the crowd.
The president sported a moss-colored fleece jacket over an open-collared white shirt, enough to avoid pinches from enthusiastic revelers.
Obama’s Irish roots have been well explored in the three years he’s been in office. In May 2011 he visited Moneygall, in central Ireland, to visit the town his great-great-great grandfather emigrated from in the nineteenth century.
The Irish Taoiseach (prime minister), Enda Kenny, will visit Obama in Washington on Tuesday, and attend a belated St. Patrick’s Day lunch at the U.S. Capitol. In the evening the president and first lady Michelle Obama will host St. Patrick’s Day reception at the White House.
Aside from the Guinness run, Obama and his family marked the Irish holiday by dying the water in the South Lawn fountain green.
Obama’s reelection campaign also got into the holiday mood Saturday, offering a special price on green t-shirts proclaiming: ‘I (shamrock) O’Bama.”
Enjoy Mr. Obama, everyone deserves a little R and R
It is always nice to see the our President out and enjoying himself.
I'd be drinking too if I were him !
By monday, if not tomorrow, The GOPher phour, will be saying that he was wasted on green beer, and when home with a woman of color. Disgraceful, could they not see that he was drinking the blood of a Leperchon, Reputed to give anyone Good Luck against GOPhers.
I may heavily disagree with his choices and ideas, but you really have to admire the way Obama makes time to take a little break from the stress and seriousness and just be himself.
We respect you Mr President for all your hard-work past 4 years and sheer determination you really deserve a break.Indeed America is really lucky to have you as a president.God bless you and your family.May god bless America.
A president that is normal. Lets keep him.
It's nice to have a president who can hold his liquor.
Way to go Mr. President, it was a hard earned, tasty adult beverage.
Way to go Mr. President! You earned it!
Everybody is Irish today! Get over it. I love seeing him act like a regular person. When are people going to grow up? No one is 100% anything! I could be a card carrying member of DAR, and Blackfoote, Scottish, English and Narrgansett and it has all been documented. I married an Irishman. I have Korean-Irish grandchildren. Life is a rainbow, chase the pot o'gold!
Marry
What a wonderful, brilliant man and President!

It doesnt take much to impress you eh?
My great grandmother was Irish. I am soo very happy to be 1/8 Irish!
If he were having a bottle of Chteau-whatever with some 1%ers conservative would say he's elite.
Ooops ! Thats Romeny who probably soent his st patties day out having a fine thousand dollar bottle of wine with some rich guys...talking about trust funds.
Nice to see the president plays b-ball and not above visiting with some 'common' people.
Good for the President, enjoy a beverage – and then tackle the tougher jobs of the economy, rising debt, Afghanistan and a myraid of other items.....maybe two Guiness would be better.
Glad the country is in such a great shape that he has time to waste our tax dollars and fly around (all while promoting being green) in his airplane to watch NCAA games and going to bars for photo op's to have a beer.
Obama inhales.
And then he exhales.
What a great President!!
We the people of America have came full circle from 1781 to 2012 and have not lost a step. Bless our president and family.
Obama is a real dude..... seems cool, very much into sports and technology...very family oriented. Repugs...you will never be like this. Obama 2012!!!
President Obama is truly a people person, thank you for being a regular person...refreshing to say the least. I did have a green beer, but I liked the Soda Bread so much more. Happy St. Patrick's Day President Obama and family, and Happy St. Patrick's day to all.
Where are the Bernstein's and Woodward's of 2012 ???
Seeking 'TRUTH', used to be the admirable objective of the media.
Unfortunately, today, journalists have become biased, lying scoundrels.
Why wasn't Obama vetted ?
Why do today's main stream media tell half truths, and outright lies ?
The fourth estate used to be the objective, last bastion of truth.
They used to be the one place where the public could escape corruption, and
expect honesty and integrity.
Unfortunately, journalism has sold out.
What a travesty ... what a pity !!!
A motorcade? Probably the most expensive pint of beer we taxpayers have to subsidize.
Who paid for the beer?
Father Rick probably went to Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Obligation! Glad to see our president enjoying the spirit of the occasion!

"Politicing always while we fill the bill."
Yeah, because this was such a huge bill, I'm sure... and of course no other president has ever done anything similar at all, right? right?
