Obama says Romney's 'pretending'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney is "pretending" the health care plan he instituted in Massachusetts is different than the national plan, President Barack Obama said.

In an interview with Public Radio International that aired Thursday, Obama pointed to the similarities between the two plans, without mentioning the Republican frontrunner by name.

"We designed a program that actually previously had support of Republicans, including the person who may end up being the Republican standard bearer and is now pretending like he came up with something different," the president said.

The Massachusetts plan served as a model for the Affordable Care Act, signed two years ago Friday. Romney, the state's former governor, has since said the legislation was the correct course for his state but not meant as a model for a national overhaul. But the plan has proved a focal point of criticism aimed at the GOP frontrunner.

In Thursday's interview, Obama said Republican opposition to the plan, including the Supreme Court challenge, is politically motivated.

He said state governors will have a difficult time explaining resistance to the law to their constituents.

"When people see that in fact it works, it makes sense – as it's, by the way, working in Massachusetts – then I think a whole bunch of folks will say 'Why aren't we trying it as well?'" Obama said.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments next week over the individual mandate provision in the law. In their opposition to the legislation, some Republican governors have refused to implement the terms until the Supreme Court rules.

Responding to the president's comments, Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul reaffirmed her candidate's plan to repeal "Obamacare ... on day one."

"Mitt Romney has always believed each state should be able to fashion their own health care reforms and, as president, he would replace Obamacare with free-market reforms that promote competition and lower health care costs," Saul said in an email.

Mitt's pretending about a lot of things. He is fact-challenged on so many fronts that it's hard to keep track of what, if any, real positions he holds. I don't want a pretender for POTUS, and I don't want the one we have. Why isn't there a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" box on our ballots???

  3. The Greedy Old Pigs declared class war on US!

"SS & Medicare are going bankrupt and taking the country with them. "

SS can be easily fixed just by removing the income limits. Medicare has better administrative costs than private insurance and most of the rest of the world has figured out how to do this already, so it's not the big deal you over-hyped hysterics with your phony poutrage make it out to be. Maybe you should pay more attention to how your GOBP keeps adopting tax policies that make the deficit worse, all while ignoring the three quarters of Americans who disagree.

Lefty Idiot–You are as pure a moron as anyone could be. Willard Romney has about 50 times more money than President Obama, but you can't get that small mind around those facts. Your facts are from Faux Fox news and we intelligent Americans know where that comes from. But keep showing us how inept (dumb) you are. We do get a good laugh about how you republicans (and we know you are a republican–just afraid to admit it) are always ready, willing, and able to bend over and grab your ankles while the rich are just sliding it in. I know you guys love that!

"... Obamacare was passed ... without any support from the republicans- who represent the other half of America."
    ---------------------------------–

From everything I've seen over the last decade and a half, the Republicans actually represent about 15% of America.

Field 1st SGT, yet again you show why you don't read. Another story on the thread has a member of the panel the GOP is attempting to get rid of that they don't have they legal authority under the law to deny people care based on budgetary reasons.

Romney's complaint about Obamacare is that it is a federal mandate. We have way too many federal mandates. It is really tying the hands of state leaders and preventing them from helping their states. There typically isn't a one size fits all mandate that works well for all states. The states have different needs. Let them work it out. Socialism didn't work out too well in the USSR. Why is Obama trying to push it here?

People who hate Obamacare are not going to vote for Obama. So now Obama points out that people people who DO like Obamacare should vote for Romney because the main difference between them is that Romney can fix the economy. Obama didn't think this one through.

Dave, the republicans COULD have gotten onboard or even made their own suggestions regarding "Obamacare" as you call it, as well as a myriad of other issues that have come up over the last three years. Alas, they chose to go negative and scream "NO!" regardless of the issue on the table in order to, as beaker mcconnel put it, "Make President Obama a one-term president". Additionally, despite their best effort,s "Obamacare" passed the house & senate so regardless of how the repubs voted, the MAJORITY RULED. There are no do-overs just because you don't like the outcome.

Check David Lawder's article on Reuter's cite March 13, 2012 at 11:40 pm EDT. He quotes a nonpartisan Congressional Budget Off analysis released Tuesday where they reported the following: "The estimated net costs of expanding healthcare coverage under President Barack Obama's landmark restructuring have been reduced by $48 billion through 2021, though fewer people would be covered under private insurance plans, a new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office showed on Tuesday."

The other comments were questions and answers should be intuitive to a logical person. Still, having seen conservatives handle the issue of the President's citizenship I'm not certain that population can make assumptions based on logic.

Regarding trickle-down economics the results are again available everywhere. Reagan's deficit caused the Bush tax increases. Baby Bush's cut & spend greatly contributed to our recession and the current deficit. Feel free to get your own references if these facts are challenging to you.
