Gingrich campaign charges $50 for photos

(CNN) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s campaign tacked on a new fundraising effort Monday, charging supporters $50 a pop for anyone who wants a photo with the former House speaker.

“Some campaigns make you travel all the way to Wall Street to pay $2,500 for a photo with a candidate,” campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said in a statement. “We chose to do it differently and ask our supporters for a nominal donation.”

Gingrich campaigned in Delaware on Monday, continuing his march to collect more delegates in the Republican presidential nominating contest. The state holds its primary on April 24.

The new photo charge comes one week after numbers released by the campaign showed the candidate spent about $200,000 more in February than he raised, and carries about as much debt as cash on hand.

His fundraising haul of $2.6 million for the month marked a big drop from January, when he took in $5.6 million.

“We also have an online store where supporters can buy hats, shirts and even a bandana for your dog,” Hammond said.

In the words of P.T. Barnum, and appropriately used for this circus, "There's a sucker born every day."

All print reporters have pulled out of covering his campain, he make campain workers dress up in an elephant costume to promote his wife's book and now is charging for a photo with him! His campain is over. Greed is so unbecoming. He needs to just go away and if he doesn't, he needs to be shunned.

How low can this man go? Anyone still think he actually thought he could win? This has always been about Newt promoting Newt. $50 for a photo with him? What, so he can buy Calista more jewelry. I would burn my $50 before I put it in this man's pocket. As a matter of fact, I think I will dontate $50 to Obama today! This is about as ridiculous and pompus as it can get.

Yikes! Are there really Americans foolish enough to pay for a photo with this horrid example of all that's wrong in American politics? Like P. T Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

If this guy runs his campaign so irresponsibly, it's scarey what he would do as President.
He is in debt, uses the campaign trail to promote his wife's books, is "reimbursed" for who knows what, and
uses his friend, Mr. Adelson, as his own personal bank. He is not embarrassed and acts as if he is owed
something without earning it. Anybody who pays one cent for his picture is a sucker.

Deposit spending by "the most conservative candidate"? Tell me it aint so! And who's making these loans? my guess would be nobody and that some people who thought that they would be paid are getting stiffed.

OMG you have got to be kidding me. Who would pay for a picture with a Newt? What, does he think he is a model or something? You know your ego has gone to your head when you want to charge to have a picture taken with you. He should be paying them. haha

Why did he raise the prices? I thought he was selling photos of Calista online for $19. The video was $29.
