(CNN) – A major Wisconsin newspaper which has a tendency to back Democratic candidates offered a hesitant endorsement of Mitt Romney on Saturday, calling him the "clear choice in an uninspired – and now dwindling – field."
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel suggested Romney would benefit by shifting his positions on climate change, immigration, and taxes, and said his "moderate impulses" offer a level of promise.

"Romney's finger-to-the-wind tacking across the political sea leaves us to wonder if he is anchored anywhere," the editorial board wrote. "But it also gives us hope that he can cast adrift the worst impulses of the political right once the nomination is his."
The paper endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, describing the bid of Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as one which "careened from inept to offensive."
Despite the mixed treatment of Romney in the Saturday editorial, the paper's most remembered contribution to the 2012 election may have been in November, when then-candidate Herman Cain met with its editors.
Video clips of their exchange went viral, showing Cain struggling to answer a question on Libya – first pausing, then asking for clarification, explaining that he had "all of this stuff twirling around in my head," before offering his eventual answer.
After that episode, his campaign instituted a temporary moratorium on videotaped editorial board meetings.
Seems that CNN is trying to make this seem like an endorsement for the general election and not one for the upcoming Wisconsin Republican primary.
Pragmatism in this case means "we can't go against the Koch brothers and other fat-cats who've been propping Romney up". This is the state where Republicans have hammered the working people and will now have to face some serious "pay-back time". Still, Romney is the elitist who'll be the perfect buddy for Scott Walker in his attempts to instill fascists values in the Wisconsin government. They'll look good together until the hard working folks in Wisconsin throw their slimy, greedy politiciian @$$*$ into the street.
Maybe a more accurate headline for this story would be, " Milwaukee Journal Sentinel dumps Obama for Romney.".
Like the rest of America.
Romney 2012! And as many Republican Senators as we can get!
Well, thats a ringing endorsement. He's unreliable, contradicts himself, and changes his views dramatically, but he's better than the other repubs.
Romneys a loser and s cult bishop , forget. It.
Dem landslide coming. Wake up Teapublacan morons.
Etch A Sketch , flip flopper , later day Bush !
"pragmatist" (noun) one who holds his/her nose and votes for Mittens.
After all, Grover Norquist said as much as CPAC, saying the GOP doesn't need a visionary leader, just someone with "10 working digits" to sign the legislation he and his corporate cronies come up with.
You GOPers really want another puppet president putting multinational corporate interests ahead of our country AGAIN?!?
Obama/Biden 2012
What tea is this news media sipping. I notice this, any time someone wants to be something they're not, they tend to over do it, take for instance, gay guys who tries to be a woman, they tend to over emphasize being like a woman. Mitten is not a rabid right winger, but he's acting like one and I think will be, even worst than a real conservative because he would have to prove himself in front of the right winters over and over again. While a sanatorium can get away being moderate because folks already knows where he's at, mitten will have no such luxury. So might be looking at the most right winged president you've ever seen, especially when he's got the tea bagged watching his every move.
That endorsement sounds more like a failing grades report card for Mitt-etch.
A limp endorsement for a limp candidate,Mitt McCain. Bring the board meetings back for him. Obama/Biden 2012!
"A clear choice in and uninspired-and now dwindling field." When the paper pretty much says the will change positions once he gets the nomination, they have revealed the true Mittens.
Mitt Romney is the BEST candidate to win in November! ROMNEY 2012! Even WI knows it!
Liar, flip-flopper, panderer, pragmatist. Which of these is not like the other?
How anyone could consciously support Willard Romney, a serial liar and flip-flopper, is beyond rational thinking. Are Americans really that ignorant and gullible? Please prove me wrong in November.
And on a side note, goodbye to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, they're days are likely numbered after endorsing the guy who would push the middle-class into extinction.
"Their", not "they're". Too much exposure to right-wing illiterates is starting to take its toll.
Do not back any of the Republican idiots. Before this, ask yourself a question. "Do I have any health care insurance? Did I have enough food on my dinner table. When did gas prices start going up? Ans; It is 1982 in Reagan, 2002 Bush. Am I acting as wealthy? Am I middle Class? Why did Bin Laden escape Tora Bora? Why did we send 20B to Pakistan? Is color more important, or my nation? Be educated. vote for Direct Dem ticket. Yes, Obama2012.
I really and truly have never seen anyone as uncomfortable with comfortable clothes as this guy.
He blows one way today and the other today. Does he own a yatch?
