(CNN) - Republican Rep. Tim Johnson of Illinois will not run for re-election, according to a Republican source with knowledge of the decision.
The six-term congressman, elected in 2000, represents the 15th Congressional District in the eastern part of the state, which covers Champaign-Urbana and includes parts of Normal and Bloomington.

Mississippi legislature tightens restrictions on abortion providers
(CNN) - Mississippi lawmakers passed a bill Wednesday that would require any physician performing abortions in the state to be a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and to have admitting privileges at an area hospital.
The bill "should effectively close the only abortion clinic in Mississippi," said Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves in a statement. "This is a strong bill that will effectively end abortion in Mississippi." If the state's only abortion facility, Jackson Women's Health Organization, closes, Mississippi women seeking abortions would have to leave the state.

George McGovern hospitalized in Florida
(CNN) - Former Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, 89, was admitted to a Florida hospital on Tuesday, CNN has confirmed.
The liberal icon is being evaluated for "brief transient spells where he passes out and becomes verbally unresponsive," his family said in a statement.
