Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

Sen. Grassley is the one that is stupid. He and his GOP buddies have treated this President with no respect and only with hatred. The bottom line is that the good ole white men cannot stand to have a smart, black man as president. Everytime the GOP opens their mouth, it shows how stupid they really are. Go Grassley you are the leader of the pack.

GySgtG: "Sen. Chuck Grassley is by far a better man than Obama. he was a farmer then a factory worker. went to college got a PHD the state legislature then congress."

President Obama did not have an affluent childhood, by a mother and grandparents who greatly valued education and hard work. President Obama could have made huge amounts of money as a lawyer after earning a BA in Political Science with a specialization in international relations and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard, graduating Magna Cum Laude, but instead chose to work tirelessly as a community organizer meeting with real people, addressing their real concerns and helping make real, positive change in the lives of real families. Then he went on to the Illinois state legislature, US Senate and then the Presidency, where he kept us from going into a Great Depression, whose policies are slowly turning the economy around, where GM is alive and Osama bin Laden is dead.

President Obama is also a wonderful family man, married to an admirable, accomplished woman and raising two beautiful, respectful daughters who would never dream to slander an elected official as Grassley has so crudely done, bringing dishonor upon the US Senate.

When Grassley meant his people, he meant Bill O Reilly, Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh. To him those are his people. And of course stupid is what stupid does!

Well, once again the GOP has just shot themselves in the foot again. After the way the GOP has acted like spoiled little children, name calling, blaming Obama for the economic downturn when it was already there before he even hit office. Economic downturn does not happen overnight people.. it takes years, decades of build up; it then just blows up...Obama just happened to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. If GOP would of won the last election do really think this economic downturn wouldn't of happened??? The answer is NO. it would of still happened. Anyway, my great GOP party promissed progress when we took over Congress... nothing has changed.. all they do is act like foolish children and point fingers and brag about stopping Obama while the country falls apart. This latest slam by the GOP I think has pushed me away from the GOP for this election. Grow UP and I might come back.

do any one of you naysayers remember the FROG's statement "our first priority is to make Obama a one term president?" and the amount of obstruction and disrespect our President has had to indure??? and in spite of this got many things done. So get your head out of where the sun doesn't shine and think about our Country. By the way if the Court does not uphold ObamaCare then I DO NOT want to pay for your stupidity when you go to a hospital for your health care because you cannot afford insurance.

Where were the republicans iin December 2011 when Gingrich said presidents , especially him, should be able to ignore decisions made by the SCOTUS and other Federal Court judges if he didnt like their decisions . and get the police to drag them to congress and his office to explain their decisions and possibly be sacked if he didnt like their reasons an d decisions . That is what i call severe intimidation ,

Grassley is the more than typical attitude put forth from Republicans concerning Obama. Why else have we all seen complete obstructionism coming from them for the last three years. They are more than determined to make him fail.

I bet most of them went to Easter services yesterday to reinforce their faith to themselves...

Most understand the underlying reason for what is going on.

For those who are asking president Obama to show his school transcript and/or birth certificate, you should ask all presidential nominee to provide the same. Anything short of that is a sign of racism (i.e. "that person is not suppose to be up to our level"), in my opinion.

I can't even imagine the scandal if the same thing in vice verse happened during the W years. A Dem calling W stupid? It would've been "let the public whippings commence." Of course that's the way it is with the Repugs, the perpetual double standard.

Actually, the senator is calling the American people stupid as well; he just contrasts the President as much more stupid in comparison to the American people.

Let's keep working with OUR President.

I'm sorry Liberals. But since we can't see the Presidents grades and writings from school days at Harvard (likely because they would confirm what a radical he is) how do you know he's smart?

All I can observe is this man believes you can spend your way to prosperitity. If that is not stupid, I don't know what is. His approach to economic and foreign policy also makes me wonder why people think he's smart. They too have been a disaster.

Obama smart.....hardly......fool is a better term

Seems that of recent years, it's all about winning to the repubs. Then, to futz things up. Kinda like Charlie Sheen. Anything/anyone that gets in their way is simply evil.
I'd expect way more of a US Senator.

That word was a "four letter" word in my house. I am embarrassed at how our elected officials treat the office of the President of the United States. Even when President Bush was in office and I could not have disagreed more with his economic and foreign policies...I NEVER called him a name.

CNN refers to Sen. Grassley's language as "scathing." Not exactly. Sen. Grassley's language is not "scathing" or "plainspoken," another MSM favorite for this type of debased speech. Sen. Grassley's comment is simply disrespectful of the Office of the President and of the current incumbent in that office.

Bullcrap! Grassley didn't write this himself. I'm guessing one of his staffers did. I don't think Axelrod was blasting Grassley. I think he was giving him a legitimate heads up.

Supreme court just doing their job, protecting us from Obama and those like him who have every intention of undermining our constitution. Thank god for the supreme court!!! Harvard should be completely embarrassed that Obama studied Constitutiinal law there and then pulls crap like this.
