Santorum's decision came down to odds and his daughter

(CNN) - Rick Santorum's decision to drop out of the Republican presidential race came after he spent the holiday weekend evaluating the race with his family, who were grappling with the latest hospitalization of his 3-year-old daughter Bella.

Santorum's path to the nomination hinged on three puzzle pieces falling neatly in place, multiple sources close to the campaign told CNN, a prospect that grew dimmer with each passing day.

A child's health is important to any parent. But what's interesting is he also ran for Senate, won a term, ran again and lost.

For whatever reason he's pulling out of the race and I'm not going to kick him when he's down. If he somehow winds up as the VP nominee, then I'll kick him with the usual enthusiasm, but that's another story.

Kinda cold to say, but I think Bella is convenient cover for Ricky as he realized he was going to lose his home state of Pennsylvania. He wants a shot at the VP slot (or a cush job on Fox or in a Mittens administration), so he wanted to go out on a relatively high note while he still has some cash in the bank and sympathy about his family situation.

That said, I wish Bella all the best.

He quit because of his fear to lose in Pennsylvania! That would really make him completely irrelevant. Always referring to “Bella” is sickening in itself when you think of his and the GOP opinion of the ACA. The concern to get well again when sick should not be overshadowed by the fear to go bankrupt! Not and never for anybody! His and the GOP goal is still to “defeat” President Obama – not that they have any ideas to solve the countrys problems but only to make themselves and the rich richer!

I am disappointed to see Santorum drop out of the race, but it is not surprising due to his dedication to his family.

  6. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

I'm not buying the "and his daughter" part. It came down to odds and funding. Period.
That he was able to use his daughters situation as an out is just good timing, It's typical political spin.
While I don't doubt his family dedication, using his daughter as an out is disingenuous at best!
