(CNN) - A new poll released one day after Rick Santorum suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination indicates that the former senator from Pennsylvania had lost his lead in his home state in advance of the April 24 primary.
According to an American Research Group survey released Wednesday, 44% of likely Pennsylvania GOP presidential primary voters said they were backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the all but certain Republican nominee, with 40% supporting Santorum, 7% backing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 5% supporting Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. Romney's 4-point margin over Santorum was within the poll's sampling error.

(CNN) - The Mitt Romney campaign's failure to answer a reporter's question Wednesday over the support of an equal-pay for women law was quickly pounced on by President Barack Obama's campaign, marking the first skirmish of the general election now that Romney is the apparent GOP nominee.
On a conference call with reporters, Romney campaign surrogates were asked if the candidate supports the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act that expands workers' rights to sue if a pay discrepancy between a man and woman exists.

A Utah election official confirmed Wednesday the check, meant to pay a fee associated with appearing on the state's primary ballot, had bounced.

Romney's campaign plans to paint a more unified picture than Santorum himself presented at the speech Tuesday announcing he was suspending his campaign, when he didn't mention Romney.

(CNN) – Republican Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey received his highest approval ratings to date in a Quinnipiac survey, according to the results released Wednesday.
The poll showed 59% of New Jersey voters approved of the blunt talking governor, compared to 36% who did not. His rating increased among Republicans to 92% and among independent voters to 64%. However, 64% of Democrats disapproved of his performance.
