New poll, endorsements bolster Romney

Washington (CNN) - A new poll Tuesday showed voters are willing to give Mitt Romney a fresh look now that he is the certain Republican presidential nominee, and the former Massachusetts governor picked up public backing from the top GOP leaders in the House and Senate.

The good news came as Romney's campaign offered a mild rebuke to right-wing rocker Ted Nugent's for his latest inflammatory rhetoric against President Barack Obama, seeking a middle ground between condoning divisive language and alienating conservatives who like Nugent's firebrand politics.

Nugent threatens death if Obama wins in November

(CNN) – Rocker Ted Nugent did little to quell his reputation as a conservative firebrand through comments at the National Rifle Association convention when he took aim (pun intended) at high profile members of the Barack Obama administration and voiced support for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The Romney-backer, musician, activist, NRA board member and tea party figure encouraged an NRA audience over the weekend to help oust the current administration.

Lugar's tax day attack

(CNN) - Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar's campaign used Tax Day to release a negative ad reminding voters of a big tax error made by his GOP rival and state treasurer Richard Mourdock.

The 30-second TV spot, titled "Trust," questioned Mourdock's integrity by claiming the candidate received "$45,000 in illegal second homestead tax deductions" from 2008-2010.
