Romney cites 'vast left wing conspiracy'

(CNN) – Speaking to a right wing radio host Tuesday, likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney repurposed a phrase from Hillary Clinton, citing a "vast left wing conspiracy" brewing in the media and liberal advocacy organizations to derail his campaign.

Romney was making an appearance on Breitbart TV and was asked by host Larry O'Connor whether he was ready to take on "the media and these nonprofits groups that are working together."

"There will be an effort by the quote vast left wing conspiracy to work together to put out their message and to attack me," Romney said in response. "They're going to do everything they can to divert from the message people care about, which is a growing economy that creates more jobs and rising incomes. That's what people care about."

Romney's choice of words echoes Clinton's assertion in 1998 that a "vast right wing conspiracy" was behind the sexual harassment charges her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was facing at the time.

"I mean, look at the very people who are involved in this – they have popped up in other settings," Clinton, now the U.S. secretary of state, said on NBC's "Today" in 1998. "This is – the great story here for anybody willing to find it and write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president."

Romney said dealing with journalists, many of whom he said were biased, was a perpetual problem for Republicans.

"Many in the media are inclined to do the president's bidding and I know that's an uphill battle we fight with the media generally," Romney said, before praising O'Connor for offering a conservative voice.

The candidate said he was unfazed by the prospect of doing battle with the left's vast operation.

"Democrats know that given the president's record over the last three years they cannot run on that record," Romney said. "They will make this race about anything but the president's record and the economy."

Wasn't he part of the left wing conspiracy years ago before he flip flopped, and continues to flip flop on a daily basis, on whatever beliefs he has.
I can't understand what kind of person becomes a bishop in his church when his character and integrity are in question not by anyone else but himself.
BTW – somebody posted something about mormons and evangelicals coming together in November to defeat Obama? For two religions full of nuts that would be a first.

Nothing gets the Left fired up like saying they the ability to be organized and coordinate. Then immediately people claim there is nothing going on (just look at all these posts). Like catching a kid with his hand in the cookie jar and he says he was just putting the lid on because it was off. Uh huh.

Well the journalists make a judgement call about what is and what is not news. Their life experiences, overwhelmingly make the lean left. There's no diversity, as in diversity of thought. Diversity is way more than skin color. If it doesn't apply it doesn't apply but there's many who need to check themselves.

Go Mitt!! Poor Obama sheep foaming at the mouth in anger. Obama is a failure. 15% real unemployment. $4 plus for gas. Being on the side of the violent, diseased Occupy protestors. Being on the side of the racist Al Sharpton and the racist terrorist group the New Black Panthers. Lib media and Obama are like Nazi Germany in the 1930's and 40's.
The American people are not going to put up with this modern day Gestapo.

Obama has never ran anything in his life, he has not created a single job, has not improveed anyone's life and you idiots think he is more qualified than Romney to lead this nation? That's why we are in such crap...And don't blame Bush...It has been long enough. Obama is an embarrasment...

The fact that there are still people out there that support Barack Obama scares the hell out of me. I would vote for a cigar store Indian over Obama. The same liberals that called bush a nazi are willing to turn a blind eye to the most incompetent, corrupt administration in history. Obama isn't qualified to run a taco bell, never mind a country. Anyone that truly believes in personal responsibility and federalism would support Ron Paul. Of course, the corrupt media have never given Paul any respect, and painted him as a loon right from the start, all the while kissing the feet of obama, and all his horrible policies. Romney has his flaws, but at least he has had a real job, and actually ran a few successful businesses. Call him what you want, smear his religion if you must, but just realize that another 4 years of Obama will be a disaster of your doing.

  7. The GOP opens mouth and inserts foot

The only 'conspiracy' in existence is keeping America safe from the GOP dictatorship we had under Bush/Cheney. Keeping intelligent people like Obama in office is the best way to do that.

Let's poll NASA employees and see how proud they are that their once might organization is trying to make Muslims feel good about their scientific accomplishments. Meanwhile we have to beg Putin for a ride to the space station.

If all you naysayers can't see the overwhelming left bias in the media, then you deserve another four years of the current Nero fiddling while this country burns. ANY republican who can win a contested office against the odds of a strong media bias as we've seen for over decades definitely has something going for him. Get ready to see in November rampant voter fraud, voter intimidation, media propping of the boy prince and ignoring all gaffes, goofs, gross mistakes and pretty much his last three years at the helm. Bush's fault will resurge as the media mantra. Still, I'm convinced a majority of good Americans will wake up from their white-man's guilt-induced coma and realize the abject failure they unwittingly put in office in 2008 and repent with a vote FOR America and for anyone but Obama.

Obama is a hack. He has done nothing over the past 3 years except divide this country. The media is in the tank for him. Has anyone watched CNN over the past 3 years? Race is the everyday headline. Forget real issues. Why report on the poor economy and president zero when you can report on things other than those making your candidate look bad?

The comments from CNN poster are par for the audience. Unless you are on drugs there is no was a person can say the media isn't Obama's lap dog. They fawn, they bow and the scrape. If B.O. stops to fast CNN's nose will go right up his you-know-what. The vast majority of the people in today's media are ultra liberal. Objective reporting is a thing of the past. I should know, I spent 35 years in Newspapers and say it from the inside.

Romney is right, most media outlets are completely in the tank for Obama, they are not news organizations, they are propaganda organs. Most liberals are too stupid to even realize the lies and propaganda they're fed are nothing but indoctrination.

Interesting comments, but what I would expect to find on a CNN website. Beverly said, "Democrats are happy to run on the President's record..."

I love how liberals are all indignant about Ted Nugent's comments about the President. Left wing celebrities said far worse about Pres.Bush and VP Cheney, and their was no outcry from the media and liberals. So what is different now other than one is a Democrat and one is a Republican.
