Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

In 2008, why didn't Mitt criticize George W. Bush for spending almost as much time playing cowboy at his Crawford ranch as he did at the White House? The economy was far worse then. More Americans were out of work. And President Obama has barely taken a fraction as much time off as Dubya did.

In fact, President Obama has taken relatively little time off during his tenure, at least by presidential standards. It's arguably the most stressful job in the world. If the president doesn't look after his own health, he won't be an effective leader.

Now, it's entirely possible that Mitt Romney's software designers didn't include the ability to experience stress when developing his operating system, but those of us who aren't androids that convert liquid gold into fuel need to rest every now and then in order to remain effective. Even the mythical Christian God had to take a day off after creating the universe. I guess he needed to "suck it up" as well.

What's ironic is that Romney only knows how to "suck up" two things: Money from failing companies and buttered white bread with a glass of tepid water for dipping.

All the fortune in the world wouldn't give you the presidency Wilalrd because people dislike you period. The more you talk the better people get to know you and what they know they don't like – but keep throwing it out there stupid.

Ha! A man that has done nothing constructive for the last 6 years but campaign for president criticizes the sitting president for playing a little golf? Good lord, grow up Mr. Romney, your complaints are petty, and you sound more childish by the day. Mr. Romney looks more like Eddie Haskell than presidential material.

Obama is acting like a typical liberal when he takes advantage every opportunity to travel on the taxpayer's dime. His wife is even worse. I like the fact that Romney will actually work while he holds office. Obama cannot be gone quick enough for me.

I don't mind the president taking SOME vacations, but I swear that everytime I look up he's going golfing or going off on vacation somewhere around the world. Heck, I only get one vacation a year. Why doesn't he lead and actually do something about the debt and economy? All he can do is talk about how much money Mitt Romney makes....President Obama, please do us a favor and stop talking about what we need to do and DO SOMETHING! your budget proposal was voted down 97-0 in the Senate and 414-0 in the House....you don't know what you're doing!

Right....so when does the Changeling actually start talking about something of substance instead of vomitting hollow talking points and throwing "crowd-pleaser" red meat at the nation's intellectually starved conservative underbelly? Never? I can live with that until November...at which point Obama will crap in Mittens' golden cereal bowl if he continues on this ridiculous tack much longer.

Seriously. This is just more of the GOP's infantile "hahaha...we'll show you...we'll get our revenge by accusing you of th esame thing some Dems accused Bush of doing." Difference is, Dubya set records for vacationing while in office. Obama has taken less vacation than every POTUS back to and including Reagan, except for Clinton, and about 1/3 of the time Dubya spent chilling at his ranch while his master, Sith Lord Cheneybot, ran the nation into the ground.

Romney's only ONE of the republicans that put us out of work, while he was lolly-gagging around "unemployed like us" spending millions of dollars the last 3 years. He makes me puke.

guess Mitt would rather spend time with his dog caged above his car while driving! Maybe he embarrassed because he doesn't know how to play golf!

Did you criticize GWB when he attended a fund raiser while a category 5 hurricane struck New Orleans??? What about all those trips to his fake ranch, clearing brush and playing golf??

I saw where Romney is talking about Obama having eaten dog as a child in the Manila. Unlike Romney Obama could not send food back he did not like and have the chef fix him something different. Nor was he in a country where dog is not a food source. He was a child who ate what his mother and family were able to afford. He was also not a grown man who made a consious decision to put his family pet on the roof of the family car and go for a drive

Pay him no mind –he'll say something different tomorrow. It's not a 9-5 job - it's 24/7 so 3 or 4 hours off once every week or two is nothing.

Go do your taxes Mr. Money.

Does the following exchange come across to you as a substantive exchange that helps explain a candidate's policy positions and proposed solutions to a problem?

Interviewer: "What would you do to help the economy?"

Candidate: "I'd take less vacation than the current POTUS."

If so, you might have assimilated to the GOPer/Teatroll hivemind. There's hope though. After all, Picard made it out of the Borg.

somebody must be seeing some trips that I don't see. Since when is the president taking all these golf trips and trips with his family? Please give some TRUE fact details. Truth is something that Romney is not good at so far.

I suppose President Obama – not Obama, a little respect please, Mr. Romney – could tie Beau to the roof of the presidential limo and go cruising.

Mr. Romney, you, sir, suffer from foot n mouth disease. It would be better for you to simply issue bumper stickers or whatever it is Republicans use for policy statements.

To be fair, the elevator is not for people: it is for his cars. Clearly, it is his cars that are lazy, not the Changeling.

Its all politics. People who resembles Romney and have same values will vote for him. Romney so far has flipped-flopped so many times that are you sure what comes out of his mouth you can take to the bank and cash it? Doubt it. In politics you can say truth, lies or somewhere in between but Romney's party can not trust him imagine.

You must've gotten a hair transplant when the "leave-a-message-I'm-in-Texas-AGAIN" Village Idiot was in charge.
President Obama, as everyone knows, has taken wayyyy less time off while accomplishing so much more.
Stop parroting and creating lies Mittens, and take a vacation to clear YOUR head and come up with some solutions and ideas that are UNIQUELY your own.
Obama 2012. Seriously America because this MIttens joker is a clown.

I would love to match hour per hour this President has logged in at the White House it will probubly blow the last few out of the water. To think Mitt would not vacation or take time off is only for his followers. He has admitted to taking the last couple of years off while he only pays taxes on ivestments. And on whose dime is he travelling around the country on now.

Oh puh-leeze, that too-much vacation nonsense you rightwing hatemonkeys love spreading like warm manure on a field? You've been debunked over and over and over and over yet you continue to act like Reagan and Bush's longer vacation schedules don't matter or disappeared from history. Admit it, you're a hypocrite. Be proud of it; stand up and own it. Your own robot cult candidate is repeating the same stale and discredited talking points that you are. You should be proud of your ignorance, and Rmoney's. Be sure to proudly announce your birtherism, too!
