Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

When is Mitt going to start talking about what he is going to do? Oh, wait... he doesn't have a clue.

Romney - all hat, no cattle (as they say in Texas). Can he please attempt to talk about something substantive?

Spoken like a true Mormon, Mormon don't have any use for people of color. Maybe Romney should re-think the elevator he installed in his manison, for those of you that agree with Mittens you're probably having the same problem with your 8 car garage this is why this is why you can relate to romney as you sit down to your dinner table eating K-D.

He certainly isn't helping himself win the golf vote....

I hope this dude doesn't get caught doing anything fun between now and the election. He has drawn that line that says the president is not allowed to do anything leisurely during these tough times. If he gets caught riding a bike, or running, or whatever, he should get slammed for it just as hard as he slams Obama for golfing.

I'm OK with the president taking time off. His job is tough. But The hypocrisy is on OBAMA'S part. Obama has gone golfing more in one year than George Bush did in an entire term, yet it didn't stop Obama and his surrogates to attack Bush's vacations and leisure time.

  6. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

@rshafer0 – Well, It looks like everyone in this forum wants another 4 years to deal with a failed Barak Obama presidency. Go ahead, take our guns, take our jobs and take our American dream.
    ------------------------
BWAHAHAHAHA! The vacuous incredulous crass ignorance displayed in the above statement tells me why you vote Repug. First, NO-ONE is going to take your guns away! Tho' Ted might spend some time behind bars for riling up the faithful.. LOL. Your JOBS (and UR dreams) are being taken away by the very people who want you to vote for them. Do a little research bud, and quit drinking the Faux Noise cool-aid. You might learn something usefule instead of parroting someone's spoutrage.

Soem of the comments on thi page let me know that there still are narrow minded people who have tunnel vision . Like others have said on this page go back and count how many times the Bush's took vacations (father and son) and where they went on vacations and then complain . Families do take vacations together no matter what Mr. Obama's job is he still have a family, did anyone criticize anyone else that have held this ofice when they went on vacations with their families or went off to play golf,or go to any sports event with friends . Get ovear it find something important to to criticize. Romney is reaching for anything he can to try to smear President Obama , talk faccts and not lies Romney your last littleploy didn't work now you are grtasping for anything you think will help you. When will you realize that Americans are not idiots or puppets we do have common sense and don't beleive all that we hear we can invstigate and find out things for our selves just as many have already done in listening to you in your debates and catching you in so many lies move on.

At least Obama does not have houses in many states and does not lead a luxury life as Mitt Romney does while people are working hard for him and making him rich. My advice to Romney, you idiot find some constructive ways to compete in the elections. These are not issues on which voters decide a president's competence.

Of course, it will be interesting to see how he does end up spending his time if he gets elected. I bet we hear a different story then. We always do. . . .

Romney and the GOP don't think black people should be able to play golf. I mean, it is a white mans game.

The Repubs started the ranting regarding our president when Mitch McConnell said his main interest was to make sure that Obama was a "one term president' !!!!!! He and the Repubs have spent the entire last three or four years doing nothing but trying to keep that pledge. They have not done one thing to improve the lives of the average American and have done everything possible to make it worse!!! The president can rightfully lay claim to a number of important and difficult projects that he has accomplished including putting millions of people back to work. Tell us ONE thing that the Repubs have done that benefited the men and women in the lower and middle economic classes!!.......Please....we all know what they are doing and continue doing for the very wealthy!!!!! As to the trips made by Obama, most of which are USA business not pleasure!!!! ...Golfing, ??? a lot less down time than most of you have!!!!!Most presidents have had a lot more than Obama!!! FACT!!!!

"Air Force 1 made 77 round-trip flights to Crawford, TX."

Yeah, but leave out that most of his visits involved business, meeting with heads of state.

Also, that was during a span of 8 yrs of office; distance from DC to Hawaii is 4 times greater vs. DC to TX (counting R/T is 8 times greater per trip) - so in about 3 yrs Obummer has already passed him in total miles (counting Hawaii, Mexico, Martha's Vineyard, Europe, etc) for "vacations" & we are in a Recession !! Nice try

Who is this guy kidding? Mr. Car Elevator done it again – another stupid comment.

I guess families are not off limits for Willard. Mr. Thinskin should get his facts straight and understand that we live in a global society. Do not act like a jealous kid b/c "he has it".

Why can't I vote now so I can get it done with. Willard is out. Out of his mind and wrong for the White House.

If Romney becomes president and takes one day off for golf he should get impeached. Oh never mind he doesn't have a shot in hell to become prez.

Mitt-one of your own Republican buddies said it best:
"If you're not sure about wanting to support Mitt Romney, whether you're liberal, whether you're very conservative, you ought to be excited because he's been on your side at one time or another," Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas

You should make it your new campaign slogan.

I bet Mr. Romney didn't begrudge W the record number of days he spent on vacation. I bet it was just fine when it was Bush on vacation.

I suppose Romney would give up golf if he were president! Yeah, right! God help us all if this whining, sniveling, condescending, reprehensible, loathsome, poor excuse for a human-being, were ever to become president. Our country is in for a world of hurt if he ever enters the WH.

Once again the party of "Do as we say, not as we do" strikes again. George Bush took more vacations and traveled more than any president. Yet again, Romney got his facts wrong.

  22. ReallY!!?

Barbara Ewing-u miss the point. Obama is using taxpayer money to do this. Obama came out and lectured us about taking trips to Vegas etc and look at what his own GSA did on our dime. All these scandals, like Fast & Furious, Solyndra, Secret Service, Koran burning, Troop posing with dead bodies, BP oil spill, are all facilitated by Obama's own appointees. While they were at the helm. These same Dems were all to eager to blame Bush for everything that went wrong and the MSM went along like lapdogs. Now we are suppose to believe that none of these scandals are Obama's fault? Where is the Hope and CHANGE?

Romney uses his own money to build his elevator. Please tell me does Buffet, Gates, Jobs, Zuckerbert, Google, GE all have elevators in their homes? How come MSM never bother to investigate those filthy rich guys.

Mitt Romney is an idiot. The Presidents home is Hawaii. Stop trying to make it seem like isn't doing his job. President Obama has done moire in 3.5 years than you would ever do for my people. We are not welfare recipiants by thwe way.

I already so sick of this guy. He has nothing to say. Even his attacks on Obama are lame. Too many "vacations with his family"? Are you kidding? Obama is the hardest working president we've had in recent memory. More energy. More involvement. More focus. Mitt Romney is the one who needs to suck it up.
