Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

What a crock! Romney has sat around on his fortune and done nothing but corporate raid to get ahead. Now he expects us to believe he cares about workers and their plight!

Gee, being jobless for many years, socking money off shore, Romney is nothing but a bag of wind. He is in this for a hobby, not to better the country, especially the middle class. He's so arrogant. Bet he'd have a lot of success dealing with foreign officials in a crisis..with that 'tude. Let's hear ideas Mitt..instead of criticism...where are your ideas????

When you have nothing real to critisize, you start repeating Fox news fabricated attacks like this. After the disaster of the last republican administration, I am greatful that the worst thing he can think of this president doing wrong is playing golf. This is really just a confession from Romney that President Obama is doing all the right things.

The Romney clan are on vacation 24/7. Not one of them works or has for the last 6 years. How many folks do you know that can campaign for 6 years. And not just Mitt and Ann. The kids too.

Wilbur is full of it. With his money he would just go to Camp David. Come on how can he even say that. Proof Wilbur will say anything to get elected.

I am positive that "if" Mr Romney would get elected, he'd take as many or more vacations that he claims President Obama has.. For once, try to give solutions on what u plan to do "if" you get elected. Bashing the president for petty things is not working& never will.. I actually feel sorry for you though. President Obama is really gonna wipe the floor with you.. Be scared, very scared. & Mr President, keep in mind that we, the hispanic community stand behind you all the way. Hispanics 4 President Obama. Si se puede!

It's about time somebody started calling Oblamer out. The media certainly isn't. Oblamer's main focus has been to see the world on the taxpayers' dime. Moochelle loves her expensive trips that we pay for. Melia goes to Mexico on Spring Break and takes 2 dozen Secret Service agents to protect her when the State Dept. advised against going to Mexico. Moochelle has been on vacation each month this year: Dec/Jan = Hawaii; Feb = skiing in Vail; March = a trip with the girls to North Dakota, Vegas and ??. April is halfway over; I expect a Moochelle trip soon. Obama announced to the Prez of Columbia that one of his duties when he travels is to scope out a place to bring Moochelle back to and promised they'd be back. His days of golf, vacation, sports and partying at our expense are almost over. I'm counting the days!

What I hate the most about romney is how he seems to flaunt his wealth in the face of the ordinary people!. I can't stand that, so to me this guy is a big show off! He doesn't care about the rest of us. 

The GOP opens mouth and inserts foot

Bush spent 3/4's of the time he was the illegitimate president on vacation in Texas. What does Romney have to say about that?

    April 18, 2012 04:46 pm at 4:46 pm |

You want him to lose the endorsement of Daddy, Mommy Bush, Jeb and the rest of the Bush Clan?

Romney is just an opportunist and a flip flopper. Once the Obama team shows him that he will say and do anything to be voted even if he is willing to flip flop his views from Govenor to now, he will be shown for who he is.

Mitt and Ann would probably hire someone to take their vacations for them, including hitting a few rounds for Mitt. With all of those mansions, who needs to bother with a reality vacation?

The GOP criticizing Obama for taking 4 hours to golf makes me laugh. George W Bush spent more time no vacation than any past US President in history. Nearly 3 full years that he was in office – he spent on vacation. 3 FULL YEARS!

Right. Bush took three times and many "vacation" days over the same period of time. Reagan took twice as many. But Obama is living it up because he visits his home state once a year. It's also entertaining to see Romney attempt to play the golf card. This coming from the elitist who just has to make time for riding his show horses every chance he gets.

He wasn't complaining when Dub-ya took more vacation time than any president in modern history, was he? Can't stand these people any time of the year, but during campaigns, they just come across and two-faced, lying double-standard tools. First true, honest, original thinking politician that comes along with fresh ideas and fresh campaigns gets my vote... of course, then whichever party that DOESN'T have the White House will just sit there and stone wall the entire time and nothing will get done. It's truly sad how broken our government is.

All Presidents need some relaxation and exercise. Pres. Bush was away from the office 1020 days, 490 of those at his ranch chopping wood and riding his bike. So why was that ok for him but it is not ok for Pres Obama to play golf and go to Hawaii once a year. Presidents have no choice about what they travel in. They must use Air Force One.

'Admittedly' is an intersting choice of word here – why are CNN continually defending Obama to the extent that they so obviously regret having to admit Romney is right and that Obama is simply out for what he can get at the taxpayers' expense?

We all go home once a year to visit friends and family. President Obama grew up in Hawaii – that is his home. Right wing must be running scared if this is all they can come up with.

Well, Obama DOES play a good amount of golf. It's pretty lame and sends a bad message. Not that I'm a Romney fan, but he happens to be correct about this. Sorry that the brainwashed Obamanation masses will revolt at even the slightest criticism.

It is perfectly OK to make comments about your opponent if they are true but these statesments by Romney are so off the mark that he should be ashamed of himself. When Pres. Obama takes his family to Hawaii for Christmas it is to go home and visit his relatives and friends there. Despite Trump's lies he was born there. Also, if he wants to take his family to Martha's Vineyard or wherever or if he wants to play some golf with friends , it is none of Romney's or anyone else's business. Don't forget Pres. Obama doesn't have multi-million dollar summer homes to go to. Everyone deserves some relaxation time to balance for the stresses of the job and he has a young family so of course he needs to spend time with them. Fact checkers have time and time again logged the days Bush spent at his ranch in Texas cutting brush compared to the days Pres. Obama has been away from Washington and it is disgusting how much more time Bush took off. President Obama has been one of the hardest working Presidents despite all of the obstacles he has had to face. Does the Mormon religion condone lying? If not, then Bishop Romney best watch what he says.

That's all you got? What about jobs, the economy, our never say die addiction to foreign oil, losing over 10
percent of our manufacturing over the last decade, the emerging US police state (oh wait, that is just to catch the bad guys), the list of real problems to address seems long – pick a real one and run with it.
