Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

This is coming from a guy with three houses and who hasn't worked a real job in years. Mitt and the Redumblicans are just throwing stuff around to see if it will stick.

    "Eric

Obama will show up to camp David if they're BBQ up some dogs."

I doubt it but you can be proud to know that Romney who strapped a hosed down freezing, sick family dog to the roof of a car for a freezing 12 hour trip to Canada...is having his best friend the guy who tortured, skinned and cooked a dog a few years ago... cook for Ann's birthday party this week.

Why? Isn't this what the office of the President is supposed to be? No work, Just vacations that break the budget. It's okay though, the tapayers will foot the bill. I still say the way to cut the deficit is to cut all travel for any member of the House, Senate or President. If they want to go home, they do it on their own dime. Noi more office staff. Want to have someone to help you? Pay for it the same way everyone else does. Maids? You get a paycheck for that. Cooks? Michelle can cook. That shouldn't be too stressful for her. Kids want to go on spring break at age 13? Just say NO.

You can go on and on about blaming Bush but what is that going to get us for the future? Plans need to be made now to get things going again for everyone. No one can say the government hasn't helped them out in one way or the other, either with tax breaks for everyone, unemployment or stimulus payments. The time is to pull up our boots and figure the time is now to find people who will make up a budget, something Obama's administration fails to do, just as regular folks need to budget to rid themselves of their debt. Wake up people, figure it out and quit allowing smooth talking politicians continue taking out money and getting us deeper in doo doo.

give us a break Romney, you don't work so you don't need a vacation. The public can not elect you because the stress of a real job would be to much for you especially being president where you would be on call" 24 hours a day. who would look after your money....oh that's righ you're rich you have people to do that for you. Focus on the issues not on how many vacations the president takes. Also focus on why all of the red states in the deep south have the highest poverty levels in the country, oh that's riight you don't know about that either. Go to your country club and get in the sauna and leave the hardest job in the world to someone with a brain....OBAMA in 2012!!

And I thought I couldn't respect this guy any less than I did before he said this. First, exactly how often does Obama play four-hour golf games? Daily? Weekly? Apparently Mitt knows, so he should tell us. Second, research shows that regular recreation enables people to perform better on their jobs, so perhaps the golf games enhance, not detract from, Obama's job performance. Third, was Romney perplexed by W's endless vacations, golf games, and hunting trips? Obama's taken a fraction of the time W did. More hypocrisy and stupidity from Romney. Yuck. This guy is sleaze.

Looks like most of the Liberals here don't mind Obama's lavished vacations on our taxpayers money. (GSA personnel were fired for their lavished vacation spending, still waiting for Obama to turn in his resignation) Obama is far from being a part of the middle class with his millions in the bank.

  10. Blah blah the wheel's off your trailer

President Obama ends the Iraqi and Afghan wars, brings peace to the entire Middle East and Africa, reunites North and South Korea, ends drouts, farmine, poverty and diseases and brings about lasting world peace! Gets rid of the worst terrorists in the world! Reduces our unemployment rate to 1% and our national deficit to under one billion dollars, gets our foreign companies to reinvest in America and gets all nuclear powered nations to relinquish its nuclear weapons! Walks on water and departs the red sea for the whole to see! And the GOP's response to all this? Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to the world! Well, God bless President Obama! Obama/Biden 2012!

  16. The Real Tom Paine

Last week I was in Florida on business: guess where some of the most fruitful conversations in the business world take place? On a golf course. Lord Romney knows this, yet he has the nerve to complain about the President going to the links far less often than his predecessor went to his ranch in Crawford. Presidents need to relax: besides, considering the fact Romney has time to build yet another vacation home while supposedly preparing for the general election, I don't think Mitt really has much to stand on terms of priorities and time management.

"I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years "

So says the king of "suck it up" .... (who, I might add, hasn't had a real job in a decade or so. Well, at least not a job he is required to report to day after day.) I wouldn't worry about Obama's "golf" too much Mitt Romney. Were I you, I'd worry more about how you are yourself being perceived as a slackard with no real "foundation" in your own life. I don't begrudge Obama his downtime, especially considering your own "unemployed" downtime consists of nothing more than home improvement moments of grandeur. How does it work in Middle Class America these days, Mitt? The longer one is unemployed, the less likely one is considered to be "employable".

  18. Republican who supports President Obama

Where is the criticism of the Speaker of the House who spend much more time on the golf course? This is such crap he needs to be called out for it. Why don't these journalists hit him hard on his stupid and one-sided remarks. I want 15 minutes in the room for an interview with him and I will have charts, video, and audio samples. He will be forced to explain himself to the American people (or stare stupidly into space). No more soft-handed interviews – time to get that the real issues.

The man has no solutions – just tonic water to sell you.

Ronmey, note that our President when he takes a vacation with his family, he treat BO his pet as one of his family, not like you treating your dog with no care and love for the animal, that to us RONMEY you should suck it up.
God bless our President Obama his loving dog BO and his family.

This is such an asinine thing to rip the President for. Willard, have you looked at the man's hair over the past three and a half years? Do you know how it got that way? Because it's probably the most stressful job on the planet. If you become President and there's even one person still unemployed, how will you justify your annual trip to the dressage show your six-figure horses compete in? Jerk.

Well, his advisors had to find something to deflect from Ted Nugents violent rantings! This is what they came up with! I just wish 1ce to hear excactly how Romney plans to improve our economy! All I've heard so far, is how the right intends to cut/eliminate programs we pay for & need to be able to rely on! Womens healthcare or our childrens education should not be on the chopping block! We don't all want to be millionaires, many of us are satisfied being middleclass & raising our kids! A government is supposed to look out for the interest of All the people it governs, not just the rich, "important" people or mega corperations!!

He wil try anything to make Obama look bad but we all know why Obama was not as sucksesful as he wanted to be. He inherited a mess and has had no help in cxleaning it up.
At least he hasn't wanted to give Romney and his buddies and miore tax breaks.
Hopefully we have enough smart people in the US to think for themselves and sort oiut what is truth or ficton.

Eisenhour golfed a lot, and had a putting green built on the White House lawn. That's fine, but that was in the day of spiked golf shoes, and his wredked the floor of the oval office. I think all Presidents, like others, are more effective if they can get some distance from day to day problems. Bush and cut brush, FDR swam, Reagan rode horses. Presidents are not machines that can be on all the time. Even machines wear out.
