Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

    Got to love it! This is what the Repugs have come up with ? The guy who invented the very healthcare system that he criticizes our pres for – and he sees no hypocrisy in that? Romney, the shallow fool of a fascist from a fascist party? Can't wait to hear your screams of agony next Nov. This is going to be fun.

    Want war with Iran and North Korea? Vote republican. We can afford it - just cancel social security, medicare, food stamps for poor children, and tax the average working schmo a little more. The Chenney/Haliburton types will thank you as they rake in even more money and your kids and grand-kids will be sent to die for the republican ego.

    Romney won't be taking "vacations". He'll just take some time to go to his resort homes, all in beautiful places.

    "If you start your speech with a outright lie" – should we waste our time listening to anything you've got to say. That's Romney's problem. Romney reads and states whatever is put in front of him. He thinks we're all stupid and can't fact check what he's saying.

    You Obama supporters need to face facts, Obama is the worst president in history, for those that disagree lets compare bush, obama and romney on a few facts.

    bush debt in 8 years=4 trillion
    Obama debt in 3 years = 6 trillion
    Romney debt in Mass = balanced budget

    years that the democrats have controlled congress and hence could have stoppped and or changed anything the republicans wanted to do
    4 years but instead they spent their time bashing bush

    Average gas prices
    Bush = 1.85
    Obama = 3.75

    hmm sense a trend here... Obama is only instrested in removing our freedoms, more government control and more irresponsible spending. While Romney may have his issues he is a business man, he ran a balanced budget and is light years better then Obama, heck my dog would make a better president then Obama by the way below is what it takes when the president travels anywhere beside camp david or his personal residence such as the crawford ranch

    4 C-17s
    3 747s
    about 100 secret service plus many more
    one trip costs the US near 10 million dollars for a week long vacation rediculous...

    Last I checked, Hawaii is apart of the US. So how is vacationing in Hawaii seeing the "world"?

    It became a liberal talking point under Bush because he had taken credit for prices dropping. The Gulf Wars had bumped them up in the first place. After everyone got over the initial shock and accepted Mideast War as the new normal, the prices dropped.

    When OPEC cut back production during "The Surge", prices rose again. Bush-43 announced to the nation, "I can fix it. I will go to visit our friends in Saudi Arabia and ask them to increase production." Bush failed. It didn't work. Prices shot up record level after record level.

    The moral of the story is that Republicans have been trying to live down that disgrace by projecting the blame for high prices onto Pres. Obama. Obama never said that he could control prices. Only a Republicans would make such a claim.

    "f President Obama keeps us on this spending track you then will wake up and say, "Oh we should have voted for someone else!"

    Obviously you haven't been paying attention. Only President Obama and Ron Paul have proposals to reduce the deficits. The Romney proposal (and Paul "The Undertaker" Ryan's) are both deficit INCREASE plans. The fact you don't know this already shows you really shouldn't be here with the adults.

    Are you kidding me !!?? This is beyond stupid and desperate. Let's not even talk about the fact that every sitting President in history has had a little R&R. But even then it's not real time to unwind and relax. Gimme a break-as if Obama can go play "4 hours of golf" without being surrounded by aides, available by phone etc. So Romney says if he's elected, he will only go to Camp David? Snowball's chance in hell. However it'll be awfully hard for Romney to put a dog crate on top of Air Force One.

    Folks– Bush is ANCIENT histoty Obama is worse than Bush so throw himout and lets keep doing that until we get a leader not a campaigner in chief. Also if you think about it we don't need a divider in chief either or a president with an enemies list!

    April 18, 2012 02:40 pm at 2:40 pm |

    And how many times in the 1st 9 months did Bush go on Holidays? Bush account for the most holidays of any president in history. That's a fact. Why does all you repubs like to say Obama divided th country. The country was badly splintered after the 2004 elections and Iraq War, both under Bush. The Repubs many focus in the past 3 years was ensure that Obama failed. Guess who has been the great dividers.

    A thought or two....first, the president receives probably 50-100 reports daily on little things like national security, the global economy, etc even when on vacation and at least with our current leader, we know he is in fact reading and comprehending the materials. second, he has more daily meetings and briefings on said issues while on "vacation" than most of us will have while at work. third, if in fact an issue rises, like finding bin laden, pretty sure this president would put down the 9 iron and "go back" to work. finally, i am waiting for you now, mitt, and your upcoming remarks on the amount of time the speaker of the house spends on the back know, the man who said pelosi was responsible for creating jobs when she ran the house, but seemingly does not hold that belief of himself and his party

  24. Is Mitt a Git?

    Romney –keep alienating the intelligencia, women and independents with your stupid comments. Also if Obama's family is not off limits with your comments, then your family should not be off limits. Like your weak, sniveling sons who don't work and live off your money in your many "compounds". Also, does Seamus's spirit haunt you in all your houses because you forced him to ride on your roof, which make him violently sick? What a plasic plutocrat. I cannot stand you Mitt–you are a liar and a hypocrite.
