Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

Maybe Robmey and the rest of the rethugs think black people don't need vacations. After all, blacks did ALL of the work in building this nation for ZERO pay and NO time off. I just don't get it. Shrub was on vacation every other week and not one person said anything. It's very scary that a man that would blatantly lie and change stances like most change their underwear, could be this close to the Presidency. SMFH.

    OBAMA 2012!

Well, It looks like everyone in this forum wants another 4 years to deal with a failed Barak Obama presidency. Go ahead, take our guns, take our jobs and take our American dream. I wish that I had time for golf every week, I sure as heck would not have any time being the president. Remember everyone, "perception is reality" that may have been one of the reasons you were fired from you last job. Maybe he is working hard, but it sure does not look like it, so it is reality. He is not working hard:(

I'm old enough to remember when everybody criticized Eisenhower for taking time to play golf with friends. And Nixon went to Florida. And Kennedy went to Hyannisport. And more recently George W. Bush went to Texas. Presidents have to "get away." Let's hope we don't have to learn what Romney would do to get some "away time" from the White House, despite what he says. Maybe have to check the car elevator in La Jolla.

False outrage. Red whine. This panders to the ignorant who somehow think that when the president is golfing, he's not in contact with his staff and aware of world events. Everyone needs a break from their job. Just ask George W. Bush, who took more vacation days that any other president in history.

Maybe Mr. Romney would be more impressed of President Obama spent weeks and weeks worth of vacation clearing brush at his ranch? Would that ring closer to home for Mr. Romney?

  11. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

@The Real Truth and Nothing But the The Real Truth – "Yeah, working on his golf game, which by all accounts, is as bad as his economic policies. Its a close call on whether he's lost more jobs or golf balls."
    -----------------
Yawn..ZzzZzzz... Phst.... these comments are putting me to sleep. Please come up with something that the GOP is going to do to HELP the US – not add another $1.4T DEFICIT to the budget year #1, and send 1,000's more jobs to India/China and anywhere but here!

When he was a governor of my state Massachusetts he didn't do much for 4 years. Thank God he left. He's been running to be president ever since.

"I will never understand why conservatives seem to think that being cultured is a bad thing."

How much more cultured can you get after numerous visits to Hawaii at taxpayers' expense ? Perhaps you need to tell your UAW buddies to take a family vacation (that's outside their COUNTY for a change) & get cultured.

Oh, what a baby Mitt is!! Hawaii is the President's birthplace; it is one of the United States–I wouldn't call that "seeing the world". As for President Obama playing golf, well, every President I remember has some time to himself to pursue some hobbies. Besides, he is on call 24 hrs./day–7 days/week, surrounded by Secret Service. I don't begrudge my President his "down-time"!

And exactly how many days did GWB spend on vacation? Here's a hint: in 8 years he spent 967 days, or 32% of his total time in office, on vacations or retreats. Where was your outrage then Willard?

Just to clarify things here, Clinton was the one that deregulated the housing market that led to the housing market crash with Fannie Mae. The stock market was effected by that crash, which wasn't really Bush's fault. He made his mistakes, sure. We did get in over our head with the 2 wars in the Middle East. I can't say if there were weapons of mass destruction or not, but the Democratically led Congress at the time supported the decision or else our troops couldn't have been there all this time. That was the same Democratically led Congress that opened the purse strings with laws that they passed. So, all the national debt increase can't really be blamed on Bush alone either. Now we have a PResident that talks a good game, but doesn't follow through. His heathcare plan is set to lead to even greater debt than any other period of time in our history. Even if the Buffet Law would have been put into effect, current estimates put it at only truly funding the Government for about 11 days. If you look at the unemployment rate including those who have given up or are underemployed we are still worse off than at any other time in our history. How can anyone continue to support President Obama? His policies have further divided the country and added trillions in debt. We need a change and we need it now.

I cannot believe that this idiot would attact the president's child because she went on a school trip and he chooses to call it a vacation. My God! When I heard about that trip my first concern was for her safety. I get sick of the bloggers on here that have no idea what they are talking about. It is a proven fact that President Obama has not taken near the time off that President Bush did. The American people had better wake up before they vote to put this A H in office.

President Obama works hard every day for the citizens of this country, and what's more, he actually thinks about what's best for all Americans, not just the rich.
If Romney gets to be president, he'll do what Grover Norquist (worst American since Benedict Arnold) said. He'll sign the bills that the unpatriotic superwealthy tell Congress to pass. He won't be a leader because he is not a leader, as his constant flip-flopping and shifting clearly demonstrate.
