Osteen: Romney is a Christian

(CNN) - Famed pastor Joel Osteen reiterated his position that Mitt Romney is a Christian on Tuesday, saying as long as the likely GOP presidential nominee believes that Jesus is the Son of God then he subscribes to the Christian faith.

"When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God–that he's the Christ, raised from the dead, that he's his Savior–that's good enough for me," Osteen said in an interview to air on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

While Osteen described the Mormon faith as "not traditional Christianity," he said he believes Mormons fall under the Christian tent.

"Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ," the pastor argued.

Romney's faith has largely remained an outlier in this presidential cycle, though some have expressed skepticism at the likely Republican nominee's religious views.

A leading Baptist pastor in Dallas, for example, made headlines in October when he urged Republicans to vote against Romney, saying voters should elect what he called a Christian, not a Mormon. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints identify themselves as Christians.

More recently, some students at the evangelical Liberty University have taken issue with Romney being tapped to deliver the school's commencement address in May.

Recent polls, however, show a majority of Americans are open to having a Mormon as president.

Romney is not the only one who has taken heat over his faith. Polls have shown a small minority of Americans have questioned whether President Barack Obama is a Christian.

Countering the speculation, Osteen said Tuesday he has spent time with the president and has no doubt about his faith.

"I believe with all my heart that he's a Christian, as he says he is," Osteen said.

"Famed pastor" Joel Osteen, head cheer leader for the "god for sale" crowd today cast his lot with Satan
and denied the infallibility of the bible.
He will get his eternal due damnation for his christdollar faith.
He is just a base idolater.

Osteen doesn't get it. Mormon's believe Jesus is the son of a god not that he is the son of God. Study the Mormon faith for yourself, you will be quite surprised as to their beliefs. Explain the planet Kolob ?

Wow, there are some really uninformed or just down right biggoted people in this world. Most people if they would just take the time to sincerely investigate would find that. The church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, actually do believe that christ is the savior of us all. That it is only through him that we can return to our Heavenly Father. PLEASE, understand that just because he is a member of the church, which is not a cult, "under the definition most of you give then every church is a cult" does not make him an unqualified candidate for president. Anyway, anyone would be better than President Obama. His idea of financial success is way off base.

"Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ," the pastor argued. ---- Anything that will get him more money, Osteen will support.

Politics perverts religion. So does money. And as someone noted earlier, Joel is a motivational speaker, not a pastor. It's all about feeling good about yourself, never any sacrifice, etc.

I think I am going to have to question whether some of those who have posted are really Christian. True followers of Christ wouldn't have so much hate in their hearts. "By their fruits ye shall know them"

Hey look at that! Seperate of Church and State my eye! I bet you won't hear him saying as much about anyone else that isn't a republican. The guy makes more money in one collection plate passing than some of the small business's that hover near his Mega-church in week...and then they pass it around again. The contradictions, the sham, the shame of it...makes my blood boil at the shear stupidity and......*Head explodes*

Luke Brown. You're obviously not a mormon or you would not make such ignorant statements.

Yeah right... He's the republican nominee so that changes EVERYTHING, so Kaloob believing mormons whose prophet Joe Smith alleged that he was a direct blood descendant of Jesus (yes Jesus; this is well before Dan Brown) are now "Christians".

Perhaps they are best described as "Christianists" as Osteen is, rather than original Christians.

Luke from AZ has this spot on. The Mormons do not believe in one God. Therefore, their 'god' is not the Christian God. In fact, in the Mormon religion if you're a really good person you can ascend to the celestial kingdom and become god yourself... pretty sweet heaven eh?

OMG – Mr. Prosperity Preacher is going to validate Mitt Romney's Christianity? Who appointed him Lord and Savior? When Obama said he was a Christian every evangelical right wing nut viewed him with skepticism (you disgrace your father, Franklin Graham) – Osteen is in it for the money – follow the money trail, Osteen is a Prosperity Preacher. What a joke.

Basically anyone who claims to be a Christian from the GOP is a Christian but any Democrat who claims to be a Christian is lying. Since when does one's political affiliation synonymous with personal beliefs? Obama has been a practicing Christian for a long time and been going to church forever but he is label a Muslim. Romney being a devout Mormon beliefs in some really unchristian like teachings but he is considered a Christian. LOL No wonder this country is so screwed up. If God blessed this country before he sure is forsaking us now.

Romney and mormons are not Christians and this "super rich pastor" this, "seller of Jesus" can not change that.

To Robertholt. A careful study of your remarks will reveal that you have misjudged 2 things. 1 Romney is an American who attends a different church. Throwing rocks at this church because it's different than yours is childish. 2, LDS Americans tend to be very conservative, patriotic people. Even a little research on LDS.org or looking at the results of Romney's family life will clue you in. Writing lies about other peoples faith is deceitful. Believe what you will and let others do the same.

Dave. Have you you listened to his sermons? The answer is obviously NO. I watch him every Sunday and no better than the garbage you spew. And all pastors are motivational speakers since the try to motivate you to live your life without sinning as much as possible.

  24. Really?

Joel? Really? About the only right thing you have to say is that we are all brothers in Christ. And, yes there are many folds he Shepherds. It is a fact that Mormons label their churches with the name of Jesus Christ..."of Later Days Saints"...and they baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but they do not believe in the Trinity! That there is One God in Three Persons. This is a basic Christian Belief: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Brother Joel, your prosperity gospel belies what Jesus came to teach us...to heal each other, to take care of each other, to put others before ourselves, not to worry about what to wear, and eat, and own. It's great to feel good listening to you, the problem is that it doesn't help to live in the real world...the world of Jesus...the world of love and sacrifice.
