Gingrich to end White House bid

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich will officially end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and formally express his support for Mitt Romney next week, two sources close to Gingrich tell CNN.

While details are still being worked out, Gingrich is likely to hold his final campaign event Tuesday in Washington, DC where he will make the announcement surrounded by his family and supporters.

It is not surprising that Gingrich is suspending his campaign for the White House as he has all but acknowledged it is winding down and Romney is the presumptive GOP nominee.

"When he says he is transitioning, what he means is that he is trying to determine as a citizen how he will pro-actively help Mitt Romney become president and the Republican Party win back the Senate and help (House Speaker) John Boehner keep his majority in the House," said one of the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

It appears that Gingrich's focus will be much broader than the presidential campaign, as the former speaker, who made his name and career in the House, plans to be actively involved in helping the GOP take back control of both sides of Capitol Hill.

"It is not enough to beat Barack Obama, we also have to help the Republican Party keep the majority in the House and win back the majority in the Senate," the source said.

The decision to hold the event next week was due to logistical reasons, the sources said.

The zookeeper resigns. Does this mean that all of the delegates that have been assigned to Romney under circumspect circumstances will no longer be challenged and contested?

No need for you to end your White House bid, the voters did that for you. I guess you have to take a few days to figure how you can make some more money off your failed candidacy.

Next week? Details are still being worked out?

Why can't he just put out a press release saying "I quit"? He has to spend a few more million bucks on a big splashy "campaign event" exit?

It's a good job he campaigned on fiscal responsibility. He's been bashing Obama for not being fiscally responsible, but still has to hold one last "campaign event" when his campaign is millions of dollars in debt?

    Newt, goodbye already.

Not an impressive run but I am still not sure he was really interested in the Job. We can now save the money for his SS coverage.

The cheater and grandfather of gridlock is dropping out. Glad to see that we are not going to have to hear this man sound off again. As for Mitt Ro (money), he will be toast in November. The Etch-A-Sketch and position changes in next six months is not going to fly with the folks. Americans are smarting than that. We now know how the system works and Congress is going to go back to the Democrats so that we can get on with the job of builiding an America to Last.

4 Million Jobs in 3.5 years is terrific. Stop saying that this presidency is a failure. We averted another great depression. Where were Republicans then.

    About time.

As ineligible as Romney is to run for president, Newt is even more so. I honestly thought that when the McCain/Palin debacle happened, the GOP would figure out that they needed to find intelligent people with common sense to run for president. How is it that out of an entire political party to choose from, there's not a single intelligent person with common sense in the GOP?

Darn – I was working on my new idea of a game similar to "Where's Waldo?". It was going to be "Where's Newt?". Oh well, just a well. He never stood a chance anyhow . . . Now to eliminate the phony they plan to run in November and get the majority back in the House. Once we get that accomplished, we can step over the TeaParty Obstructionist and get on to the business of rebuilding the Country and the economy.
