Gingrich to end White House bid

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich will officially end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and formally express his support for Mitt Romney next week, two sources close to Gingrich tell CNN.

While details are still being worked out, Gingrich is likely to hold his final campaign event Tuesday in Washington, DC where he will make the announcement surrounded by his family and supporters.

It is not surprising that Gingrich is suspending his campaign for the White House as he has all but acknowledged it is winding down and Romney is the presumptive GOP nominee.

"When he says he is transitioning, what he means is that he is trying to determine as a citizen how he will pro-actively help Mitt Romney become president and the Republican Party win back the Senate and help (House Speaker) John Boehner keep his majority in the House," said one of the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

It appears that Gingrich's focus will be much broader than the presidential campaign, as the former speaker, who made his name and career in the House, plans to be actively involved in helping the GOP take back control of both sides of Capitol Hill.

"It is not enough to beat Barack Obama, we also have to help the Republican Party keep the majority in the House and win back the majority in the Senate," the source said.

The decision to hold the event next week was due to logistical reasons, the sources said.

Fedumb, intelligence means little without wisdom, and Gingrich has shown in personal and professional settings he has very little wisdom. If you were worried about the country at all you would be glad to see this extremly toxic man out of the race. His support in the 90s of anti-bipartisanship has led to ineffectual government.

Oh, and by the way it took him months of 3rd and 4th place finishes to realize he was not a contender, something everyone else knew a long time ago. So I wouldn't really consider him that intelligent.

He is a good person. We should have a new rule. Works in private sector for several years then become politician. This way they can have more experience in real world.

I'm surprised he even got this far! The man was a loser from day one. When you cannot campaign on fidelity, family values, honesty, and most other American values, it is a lost cause while still in the starting blocks. Anyone that would deliver his divorce notice to his wife in a hospital bed don't have much to offer!

So, the angry little attack muffin is running out on his supporters, just like he ran out on his wives. There goes our last chance to colonize the moon.

Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Huntsman were the only 3 GOP candidates worth having dinner with.

Have we really gone so far from the US Constitution that any talk of Ron Paul is considered extreme?

    Wake up, people!

Americans go with the look of the candidate and not the level of their intelligent. We deserve what we get!
Gingrich is the most knowledgeable and creative republican in the modern history of America.

I'd personally like to thank Newt Gingrich for his participation in the Republican Primary. His negative campaigning against Romney has provided Democrats with all the ammunition they'll need to destroy Romney's credibility. Gingrich and Rick Santorum have been instrumental in destroying the credibility of the party as well. I can now look forward to an Obama victory in the fall and a democratic sweep of the house.

For those Republicans who did the "Eagle Rock" when the Citizens United decision came down, you should have been careful what you wished for. Newt could never have gotten his anti-Romney message out if it hadn't been for that decision.

Does that mean the American taxpayer can now stop paying the $44,000 per DAY that Newt's Secret Service protection is costing? The past couple of months have been a very expensive ego trip for Newt. Oh, but he's really concerned about wasteful spending, you know.
