Gingrich to end White House bid

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich will officially end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and formally express his support for Mitt Romney next week, two sources close to Gingrich tell CNN.

While details are still being worked out, Gingrich is likely to hold his final campaign event Tuesday in Washington, DC where he will make the announcement surrounded by his family and supporters.

It is not surprising that Gingrich is suspending his campaign for the White House as he has all but acknowledged it is winding down and Romney is the presumptive GOP nominee.

"When he says he is transitioning, what he means is that he is trying to determine as a citizen how he will pro-actively help Mitt Romney become president and the Republican Party win back the Senate and help (House Speaker) John Boehner keep his majority in the House," said one of the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

It appears that Gingrich's focus will be much broader than the presidential campaign, as the former speaker, who made his name and career in the House, plans to be actively involved in helping the GOP take back control of both sides of Capitol Hill.

"It is not enough to beat Barack Obama, we also have to help the Republican Party keep the majority in the House and win back the majority in the Senate," the source said.

The decision to hold the event next week was due to logistical reasons, the sources said.

So, Newt said he'd take his bid to the convention, no matter what? Now he doesn't follow through? I guess he'll never be considered a candidate again. Unfulfilled promises.

    Ohwell

Now that Newt isn't taking votes away from Romney, it is pretty much a done deal. Problem is we can't afford another 4 years of Obama which is exactly what we're going to get come November..

Newtie will stew and simmer and eventually blame this loss on his latest wife/mistress before having another affair, divorcing and 2016 should see him with younger bot wife and another presidential run on other peoples money.

Each candidate should know the American history and facts that this man knows. He forgets some that the others do not even know or ever will. I know he is for our country . I would like to think if he had gotten in you would not have to worry when you put your head on the pillow. Because he is for our country. He is not Obama for sure. He is a good man .His own would not back him because i think they were afraid of what changes he would bring in. They all did not want to give up the gravy train. so it will be a clear loss for the country.

"Anyone has to be better than the 'America bashing and destruction' we have in the White House now. At least vote for an American."
    --------
Seriously? Still looking for the birth certificate? How pathetic! I have news for you – President Obama is more Pro-American than anyone the Republicans have put out there. Left to them, America would have been destroyed. If Romney get elected (which will NOT happen) he will sell the middle class out and let things go back to what got us in this mess in the first place. Pandering to his rich buddies and letting Wall Street run wild. He's already talking about eliminating jobs in government. Now, how is that "job creation" when you go in with the mindset to do away with jobs that people need to feed their families?

Careful what you ask for Republicans. Mitt Romney will sell this country to the highest bidder and not think twice about the amount of money he makes off of it. He already stashes his assetts either in his church or in another country. How can someone like that be the leader of this Nation? I, for one, believe the American People are not a dumb as Mitt would like to think they are. He WILL be defeated in November and I also predict the House will become Democratic again as well. We've seen what the Republicans/Tea Party obstructionist are all about now (after two years of doing absolutely nothing positive for the Country) and we are going to make sure they are all booted out in November.

Maybe he can keep a security detail from the Secrete Service anyway. I hear they have some guys with nothing to do anymore, and they all know how to life like Newt when not on duty.
