Boehner explains jabs at Obama as 'help'

Washington (CNN) – House Speaker John Boehner on Sunday described his amped-up rhetoric toward President Barack Obama in recent days as advice.

"The president is getting … some bad advice," Boehner said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Somebody needed to help him out, so I thought I would."

In the past week the top Republican accused Obama of losing courage and decreasing the standing of the presidency.

Boehner reiterated the opinions to CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley on Sunday, saying Obama is "diminishing the presidency by picking fake fights, going after straw men every day."

The Ohio Republican said political gimmicks recently employed by the White House include support for the so-called Buffett Rule, a plan to apply a minimum tax rate of 30% on higher income earners; the president's rhetoric surrounding manipulation of the oil markets; and the debate over the extension of low student loan rates.

Looking to the 2012 election, he made the case for Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, by pointing to his success in business and pushed back against the suggestion that Romney's privilege would be an obstacle in the November election.

"The American people don't want to vote for a loser. They don't want to vote for someone that hasn't been successful," Boehner said. "I think Mitt Romney has an opportunity to show the American people that they too can succeed."

Boehner also indicated he is optimistic Republicans will hold onto the majority in the House.

He recently said Democrats have a "one in three chance" of regaining control of the lower chamber, after previously saying it was "nearly impossible."

But Boehner said nothing has changed.

"Listen, if the election were held today, I'm very optimistic that we will hold onto the majority," Boehner said. "But my job is to make sure that even under the worst-case scenario, we're able to hold onto our majority."

►HE has had four years to rescue America and the American dream. That "ain't" happened!!! Therefore, he has had to resort to jokes, finger pointing, and stupid accusations in order to justify his MIS status for the last four years.◄

Explain why it did not happen??? Are we in a depression? Did we add MILLIONS of jobs? We now have HEALTH CARE for all! My job was SAVED!! Take a look at the UK; they turned conservative in 2008 and did the opposite of what President Obama did – They DESTROYED jobs of teachers, fire fighters and first responders and they are now in another RECESSION!!! (http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-04-25/markets/31396583_1_uk-line-national-debt-eurozone) Wisconsin DESTROYED jobs and have not created ONE – Wisconsin will be GROUND ZERO when we begin to RID this country from the REAL Obstructionist!!!

The ONLY joke is on Boehner for not working with this President to make the economy grow even faster. Their number one goal was to make President Obama a "one-term President." So he who laughs LAST – laughs BEST!!

After holding the countries economy hostage, with a total failure to even consider negotiation, no one should listen to this guy. Infact he should be held responsible for his actions!

Cardog.....What has Obama done? He blames Bush for everything, he blames construction, state and local governments for being a drag on the economy..he tried to intimidate the SCOTUS...because of his health care plan which creates more government interference, and a board who will deciede what treatment etc you will get...Obama campaigned on a more open government,,,,,still waiting for that...he said he wanted less government,,,,still waiting....so try something else

I am so tired of hearing the same old lie from ALL the republicans. Obama's economic policy has NOT FAILED. Do not let them tell you that they have. Look at the rest of the world. Most of the other countries took the Republican idea of draconian cuts to spending and their economies are still stuck in negative neutral. Stop the lies!!!

Mitt Romney being successful at hostile takeovers, gutting companies, and killing American jobs while he collected a big pay day is truly inspiring. What a winner! Please, help us with our economy!

Don't forget: RESPECT COMMANDS RESPECT! If you want me to respect your opinions, you MUST learn to respect mine. Otherwise, NO DICE! If I know your strategy and "OLD" talking points; NEXT you'll be calling me a racist. If that makes you happy, then I AM!

A bit touchy today are you? Take a walk, smell the roses, and who knows, perhaps you'll feel better about life in general and yourself in particular.

Shouldn't it read: "The president is getting … some bad advice," Boehner huffed between tears.

John Boner – this is the guy who Literally handed out checks from the tobacco lobbyists to all his cronies on the very floor of the House for their votes – he should be in jail for that!!! Hallowed, sacred ground, that his actions show he has no integrity, scruples, honesty, or any desire to help 'The American People" – only his Corporate Puppet Handlers! His only agenda is 'anti-Obama', not one credible idea offered that would help this country get back on it's feet. And yet the oblivious and intentionally ignorant keep voting these criminals in!

Essie, Anonymous; YEAH, YEAH! YOU "GUYS" are the greatest. Don't ask me at what, though.

Anonymous, I respectfully want to thank you for your suggestion. You are spot on "guy/girl". My suggestion to you: You may want to PRACTICE the same advise for yourself. Also, be somewhat careful while smelling the roses. While most roses smell like perfume; most of them have thorns. Also, you amy want to watch out for the Mr. Obama poop.

    Just a suggestion.

Like I've said before, Election Day 2012 is an IQ test for Americans. They will come out and vote for the person that worked day in and day out for America without a functioning Congress, producing results that cannot be denied, or they will vote for the leader of the party that has held the progress of this country hostage in their campaign bag for 4 years. "The American people don't want to vote for someone that has not been successful," Boehner says. The GOP literally bet the House that Americans are too ignorant and manipulatable to get even that open book question right.

Boehner is the biggest loser to hold the post since Gingrich; he is being torpedoed by that snake Eric Cantor and dosn't even seem to realize it.

They WILL lose the house and his career is over after November; he will resign and go toy work on K street where he can tan, schmooze, smoke and play golf with his BFFs. GOOD riddance
