Romney: 'Even Jimmy Carter' would have ordered bin Laden attack

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Monday appeared to call out Mitt Romney over what he said about going after Osama bin Laden on the campaign trail four years ago, as opposed to on the eve of the first anniversary of the raid that killed the terrorist leader.

Asked about Romney's comments earlier in the day that the decision to go after bin Laden was a clear one and that "even Jimmy Carter would" have made the call, Obama referred to a difference between what Romney said during his 2008 presidential campaign and on the eve of the first anniversary of the attack.

Romney would have ordered the attack, and then canceled it leaving our troops blowing in the breeze so he could say he ordered it or he didn't order it, the usual flip flop!!!

A flip-flopper can't make a good Commander-In-Chief. President Obama has become the terrorist's worst nightmare and Romney the "chicken hawk" could never replace his mature and thoughtful style of leadership.

Mr. Romney's reference to Jimmy Carter was unfortunate but then Mr. Romney has the ability to make statements that make one share his/her head.

The Republicans used 9/11 during the Bush re-election bid in subtle ways. It was like the elephant in the room all the time. Bin Laden is gone and this country needs to move on. There was no celebration of his death and the decision was not made lightly. To think otherwise would be a mistake.

But Romney would not have ordered the attack: I'm sure he would have changed his mind if a poll could have been taken, and his actuarial tables showed him it was a good risk. He has no core, no guts, no spine, and no soul. Cold as a snake, and as ambitious as Lucifer.

Jimmy Carter has done good work. Romney trying to discredit this honourable man is disguisting.

Romney needs to be called out for all of his previous remarks.

Romney how about sending your sons in the military. He has 5 and not one is in the military.

Every Campaign the same tired argument arises about religion being off limits. Shouldn’t we know exactly what anybody thinks (whether religious or otherwise) before we entrust them to run our country? Particularly, if it is the philosophical fulcrum of their decision making. If a candidate suggested faith healing to replace Medicare, or praying for manna to replace food stamps wouldn’t that be something you would want to know? Would you feel the same if he professed to being an atheist or would you say that should be off limits also.

Mitt Romney = The Etch-A-Sketch guy who would have given the order, then changed his mind when he found out the polls wouldn't support it! I'll bet the terrorists are laughing at him.

Jimmy Carter had the guts to serve in the Navy after graduatibg as an engineer from the Naval Academy and becoming a nuclear engineer. Mitt Romney is a coward who shipped our jobs to Chinese slave laborers.

What would have Willard done in the case of the Somali pirates that President Obama "ordered" the attck on the pirates? At least Jimmy Carter followed his heart and his core. You on the other hand Willard, you have NO CORE!!!

""He took something that was a unifying event for all Americans, and he's managed to turn it into a divisive, partisan political attack," "

You mean sortof like spending the past 10+ years claiming that only the GOP/conservatives understand foreign policy and national security and are fit to protect us from another terrorist attack and using images of 9/11 ad nauseum to demagogue the argument? Is that the kind of abuse of a "unifying" event to divide up the voting market that he's talking about?

Expect waaaaay more of this from botht he GOP/Teatrolls AND the MSM. Every time Obama points out a victory of his or positives of his first term, the GOP/Teatrolls are going to throw a hissy fit and the MSM is going to help them get their messaging out, no matter how hypocritical, substanceless, baseless or indefensible it is.

MSM is surely milking this one. It appears somebody has to hold Romney accountable for his own words/lies, because as Americans see over & over, the media does not.

Those were Romney's exact words, and he cannot flip-flop his way away from his record of indecisiveness. That is not leadership.

Well played, Gov. Romney. Even the hapless Jimmy Carter, an unfortunate twin to the hapless Barack Obama, could perhaps get one thing right in four years of getting everything else wrong. That's gonna leave a little mark and the Preezy of the United Steezy.

"Those were Romney's exact words, and he cannot flip-flop his way away from his record of indecisiveness. "

He knows that, which is why Deputy Doublethink and the entire GOP/Teatroll tinfoil hat nation are doing doubletime on suddenly and inexplicably pretending it's just not important whatsoever.

You can bet your left foot that if it had been Dubya or McPampers or some other GOPer who ordered the raid that successfully killed bin Laden, it would be the only godd-mn thing the GOP/Teatrolls would be talking about on the year anniversary of it. They'd be demanding moments of silence, acting all solemn, trumpeting their success and victory and the symbolic defeat that shows everyone around the world that "you can't escape 'Murkin justissssssss!!!!!" It would be all over the news and in the papers and Candy Crowley and Wolf Blitzer would be doing the nasty on top of a giant bed-sized celebration cake, complete with a life-sized gravestone made of fondant that says "R.I.P. Terrorist Biotch." The MSM would then invent a new award to give to Mittens just for helping celebrate OBL's death. IOKIYAR.

"Operation Eagle Claw, on April 24, 1980, which resulted in a failed mission, the deaths of eight American servicemen, one Iranian civilian, and the destruction of two aircraft."

I am to understand that this particular moment in American history is so funny to Mr. Romney that is actually making light of the fact that Jimmy Carter did indeed make such a career ending call and American soldiers died as a result? Not sure where the humor is for Mr. Romney. Perhaps he'll be willing to elaborate once the truth of his "joke" sets in.
