Gingrich: Thanks and goodbye
(CNN) – Soon to be former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Tuesday thanked his supporters and vowed to continue working to defeat President Barack Obama via web video ahead of his official campaign suspension on Wednesday.
"Because of your help and your support, we were able to put up a terrific campaign, and I want you to know that Callista and I are both very grateful to everybody across the country," Gingrich said. "I want you to know that we're going to continue out there on the road. Both Callista and I will be talking, campaigning, making speeches, doing everything we can to help defeat Barack Obama."

The former House speaker, who announced his White House bid last May, is scheduled to suspend his campaign in the afternoon on Wednesday and back Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Although Romney will be in the Washington, DC area during the day, sources familiar with the session told CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger not to expect Romney to be in attendance at the announcement.
Sources previously told CNN Political Director Mark Preston Gingrich is expected to endorse Romney.
While Romney is not expected at the Wednesday afternoon event, the Romney and Gingrich campaigns have discussed the two appearing at a second event in the near future, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
The two campaigns have had ongoing talks since Gingrich signalled last week he was going to pull out.
Gingrich did not mention the former Massachusetts governor by name in the video to supporters, but he stressed the importance of voters joining the effort to oust Obama from the White House.
"A re-election of Barack Obama will be a genuine disaster. And all of us have an obligation I think to do everything we can to defeat Barack Obama," he said. "I hope you'll join us in this historic effort because this is still the most historic election in our lifetime."

Of course, this announcement was planned for May 1 for one reason and one reason only, to distract from the anniversay of OBL.

If his help to attempt to defeat President Obama is on par with the way he ran his quest to be on the losing ticket this November, President Obama has no worries.

As an Obama supporter, I hope Gingrich continues to stay in the spotlight. Nobody turns off Independent voters as much as Newt. Keep it up, Newt!

Don't overlook the big picture. What Newt is doing is insignificant, but it is still headline news. Don't forget that he announced his announcement for Wednesday, and changed it to May 1 over the weekend. Look for more headline grabbing news from Republicans all day, followed up by several of them saying that Pres. Obama is trying to politicize the capture of OBL just in time for the evening network news broadcasts. Just wait, watch and see.

As much of a mess as Newt is and has been he made things happen when he was Speaker of the House. The same can be said for Clinton as Gov and President. For those two, and a whole lot of us those all too evident imperfections are minimized by other gifts. For all of Obama's outward gifts and life he sure doesn't bring much to bear in results.
I believe the far left Arianna Huffington got it right when she called the Bin Laden ad "despicable". It might be the only time I will ever agree with her.

I of course want to see Obama defeated in November also, but don't characterize that as hate. Obama is a good guy who just got in over his head and unprepared to do the job that needed to be done. He tried hard and I'm sure he really wants to do better but America needs to move forward. 2009 and 2010 were experiments with a philosophy that didn't work this time like it didn't work any other time. He's stuck with that but we are not stuck with him. We can do better.

I built my business and made alot of money as did a lot of people in the 90's. Don't think harmony in government is going to help us. I do not want either party controlling all elements of government and Americans should constantly hold them accountable. I think we all know the right does not have a monopoly on ugliness.
