Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

When I think of Texas politicians, one word comes to mind: heatstroke.

I was born and raised in Texas. I left to pursue options in New York and have lived here for 28 yrs. Now I hope to return soon and spend the rest of my years in Texas. Texas politics have always been a quandry for me. How did we allow such Yahoos and Bozos represent this great state? George W. and Rick Perry??? I have grown to appreciate my time away and I do hope no one or nothing like them will rear it's ugly head in the future. Texas was always percieved (politically) as an odd bird by the rest of the country. There are some pros to this way thinking but also alot of CONS, as in con-artists. It's true things are big in Texas, but unfortunately that applies to BIG deficits in intelligennce and sober thinking too. This does not apply to all Texas politics. However, when it does apply, it applies in a BIG way. Rick Perry... a foregone conclusion... NEXT!!!!!

Thank you, Gov. Perry, for yet another spectacular display of stupidity and trying to insight fear to the ignorant masses. We can add this to your illustrious list of ridiculous comments and bumbling antics.

ThinkAgain – So I don't understand your beef
If you'd stop drinking the koolaide and pull your head out of your back side, you'd see that the last 4 years have NOT been what this country needs and another 4 years of this will wreck what is left of the country. All you do is make excuses and blow smoke, just like Obama. If Obama had performed like this in a company he would have been fired years ago.

Doesn't Perry know that only Democrats are allowed to bring God into politics and get away with it?
Who by now doesn't know about the double standard?

God didn't help us one bit during George W. Bush reign. He allowed Bush to invade a neutral country, kill thousands and thousands of American Military. Kill and maim hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi. He allowed Bush to torture and maim hundreds of people, who had nothing to do with terrorism. He allowed Bush to cut the taxes of the very rich thereby throwing this country into the worst recession since 1929. He allowed republicans to slash and cut benefits to the poor and needy and to send all our good jobs overseas. If God did not see fit to help us then, we are sure he has decided to help us now. With the support and actions of President Obama and the Democrats they are trying to get us back to the country we once were, before Bush took office. If he would help us by getting all the republicans throw out of office so they stop blocking and obstructing what is trying to be done to help us once more it would be very Godlike. If he lets the republicans get more in charge of things then I would say Satan had control of this country courtesy of the republicans.

Anything or anybody that Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich & Michelle Bachman are for I am
COMPLETELY AGAINST. They are phoney Christians and half-wits. Mitt is an empty suit with no core convictions at all – perfect to be led around by the nose by the neocons, birthers, fake evangelists, teapartiers, Kochs/corporatists/bansters, etc
I believe God will prevail, as he always does. The POTUS will be re-elected.

God has already spoken twice. He put Obama in the white house (conservatives often say God controls every move) and He has forced many of the right wing "over the top" Republicans to drop out of the primary?? So, Mr. Perry, God has already put you on the sidelines and I think He is sending you a message: "Simmer down and lay low for a while"

Perry dropped out pretty early because his poll #s dropped dramaticlly due to the fact that he was ignorant of the issues so why should anyone care what hes got to say now? Just sayin

Look, Perry, your party had 4 years to come up with a candidate who could beat Obama. The best you could come up with was Romney. You're going to lose. See you in 2016.

  17. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

@Democrat Class Warfare – "If you'd stop drinking the koolaide and pull your head out of your back side"
It appears that many (including yourself) have this problem. I fail to see why ANYONE would want to go back to multiple unfunded wars, MASSIVE tax breaks for the wealthy, bank bailouts, jobs being lost at more than 700,000 a month, and RECORD annual DEFICITS !! Are we better off than we were 4 yrs ago – debatable. Many are tho'.
But the preceding 3.5yrs have not been the failure you imply. When water is coming in over the sides and the last captain left the deck, it takes a while for bailing water under the new captain to see results. There are too many small-minded folks who cannot see the bigger picture and take what they see/hear on Faux Noise as gospel! No, your guns will NOT be taken away by Obama, but voting in the representative of the Grand Obstructionist Party will get your JOBS taken away. NO jobs, no work, no food. No future !

Looks like this nation is getting what it deserves:
Our laws permit us to break all of the Ten Commandments.
If the majority of voters refuse to repent then don't be surprised if Obama is elected and we continue down the slippery slope. Everyone has a choice: God's way or man's way.

God will help us no matter who's elected. We survived GWB and worse before him. These GOP hate mongors are at the core of our nation's lack of unity. It's all they're about. They're veiled racism is sickening and obvious. WE ALL need to say so every day.

There is more to the presidency than the economy. The President has kept his word on world politics, improved our image abroad from the cowboy one W presented, kept our ground troops out of Libya but provided support, did what he could do domestically in spite of the obstructionist congress. The GOP is and has been willing to kill the baby to get the WH back. They have proven over and over again to be against all but corporations and the rich. They have become a pawn in this political game as there are many well off citizens who support the president. The GOP offers nothing but more tax cuts and back to the Bush economic policies......gotta stay with Obama, he isn't perfect but he deserves another term.
