Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

President Obama: "Bush is un-patriotic for the debt he has racked up." Democrats today: "Expanding the debt by $5 trillion is the best way to save the country." I don't get it.

Romney thinks it was OK to bail out big bankers but not the working stiffs at GM. What more do we need to know about him?

well ! Ricky maybe it might be the other way around, especially for poor people. Since it has become obvious that the wealthy don't give a crap about poor or veterans and people with little means.Could it be God help us if Obama doesn't win?

The same can be said "God help us if the conservatives get in" and finish the destruction that Bush and his gang of criminals started. The result would be a return to the feudal fiefdom of the middle ages. There would be very rich Barons and the rest of the people would be poor and starving serfs. Not the America I want for my kids.

Hey Rick, God's already helped us. You're not going to be president, are you? Now get your sorry, fear mongering ass back to Texas. Although I don't know what those people ever did to deserve you.

Stop with the faux drama. Romney is not fit to lead the most powerful country in the world. The GOP has hindered every good move Obama has done. VOTE DEMOCRAT IN NOVEMBER!

Seriously, Mr. Perry, no one cares what you think. You were a laughing stock during your party's insane debates and primaries, you couldn't even put 2 consecutive thoughts together coherently. Please just close your mouth and go away.

Now Perry knows how most of the country felt when Bush won his re-election. Look what happened. An economic mess that these republicans seem to think they had nothing to do with creating it. Republicans controlled every facet of our government and it still went into the toilet. Now they want to return to those very same policies that caused this in the first place. Thanks but no thanks, republicans.
