Clinton addresses 'au naturale' moment

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton laughed off the perpetual conversation over her appearance that landed in the spotlight once again Monday when a picture of her sporting glasses sans make-up made the rounds on the internet.

"I feel so relieved to be at the stage I'm at in my life right now," the secretary of state told CNN Foreign Affairs Correspondent Jill Dougherty in an interview. "Because you know if I want to wear my glasses I'm wearing my glasses. If I want to wear my hair back I'm pulling my hair back. You know at some point it's just not something that deserves a lot of time and attention."

"And if others want to worry about it, I let them do the worrying for a change," Clinton added.

Clinton appeared without makeup, except lipstick, wearing thick rimmed glasses during a recent news conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh as part of a trip to promote democracy abroad.

The image of the former New York senator with longer hair landed on The Drudge Report with the caption "Hillary Au Naturale." Clinton appeared throughout her presidential bid in 2008 with short hair and pants suits, often the subject of ridicule. Since assuming her top state department post, Clinton has varied her wardrobe and her light locks now hit at her shoulders.

Seriously? People are making an issue of her make-up or lack thereof??? As busy as this woman is, as important as her job is. this is about the furthest concern anyone should have. Stupid.

Hillary is having a lot of bad hair days lately. You would think when she is representing our country, she would make an effort to look her best.

I don't know what the big deal is over her not wearing lipstick or makeup in a country where it might be seen as offensive.

This country is so full of shallow people that care about BS like this. One very bad side affect of the TV age. Abe Lincoln never would have gotten elected President, but John Edwards might have. How absolutely sad and pathetic is that?

Being natural feels good. I rarely wear makeup and don't care what anyone thinks. My face is always clean and moisturized. Gooooo Hillary!!!!

Hillary ought to play up her natural beauty. People like to look at pretty things...they get attention...they get respect...they get status. All the more reason for Hillary to augment her role as Secretary of State. This said, I am a Hillary fan.

Great that she laughed at this ridiculous issue. She's the Secretary of State, not a reality show bimbo, for god's sake.

  12. Really?

What a waste of time and space here. I thought maybe... just maybe that since the story was about how she appeared.. CNN might take an extra 3 seconds and add the picture in question to the story... but no... that would make too much sense and would help everyone understand what the fuss was all about. Great job CNN!

Do we care as much if a male politician isn't properly groomed? It is completely ridiculous that we hold women to such a different standard. The tabloids always have cover photos of "celebrities" that aren't all done up. Who cares?!

I gotta admit, Hilary Clinton has done a phenomenally good job as Secretary of State.
The world and the US is a much better place because of her.
And her makeup had nothing to do with it.
    Thank you, Mrs. Clinton.

Hypocrisy times ten. The over-Botoxed and face-lifted CNN interviewer challenging the Botoxed and face-lifted, bottle-blonde Clinton over the "au naturale" look she sported while traveling (away from her hair stylist, I suppose). There is absolutely nothing natural about either of these women (whose eyebrows look as if they are about to migrate off their faces). It's so ridiculous for a woman Hilary's age to do the blonde thing, especially when she was never one to begin with. She was a very dark brunette in her youth. And glasses? What's wrong with glasses?

Stay classy, Drudge. You barely come out of your basement, and you tar the U.S. Secretary of State with this kind of garbage?

Hiliary never cared about her looks. Go back when she work for Rose Law Firm, she was very dowdy. It wasn't until her husbank ran for Pres. they had a fix it person for her and she looked 100 times better.

Shallow and superficial much? If you had HALF as much on your plate as Secretary Clinton, you would be lucky to look HALF as good as she does.

Whether they deserve it or not. Pretty is nice if you're a beauth queen who doesn't have any responsibilities besides perfecting your pageant walk while waving and smiling. Dim Bulb Barbie comes instantly to mind.
