Federal inmate's sizable West Virginia presidential vote tally

(CNN) – An incarcerated 53-year-old man is beating President Barack Obama in eight West Virginia counties following the state's Democratic Presidential Primary Tuesday, according to the latest figures from the West Virginia secretary of state.

Keith Judd, who is currently serving a 210-month sentence at a correctional facility in Texarkana, Texas for extortion, is trailing the president 42.28% to 57.72% in the state based on the unofficial vote totals, but is leading in eight counties.

Judd only needs 15% of the vote to qualify for at least one delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer, according to The Charleston Gazette. His expected release date is June 24, 2013, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Obama has not had electoral success in West Virginia, a reliably red state in presidential politics. He was crushed by then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in the state's Democratic presidential primary in May 2008 by a 67% to 26% margin. And he lost the state to Sen. John McCain, the then-Republican presidential nominee, 56% to 43% in the November 2008 general election.

The Mountain State's Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and junior Sen. Joe Manchin have also recently distanced themselves from the president ahead of their 2012 elections.

In Tuesday's election, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney received nearly 70% of the vote, according to the latest unofficial figures, while former candidate Rick Santorum garnered over 12% support and Rep. Ron Paul captured just over 11% of the vote.

I voted for President Obama but will not this time around-
To be honest, I see little difference between the integrity and honesty of the President and a convict criminal and probably have more faith in the felon at this point-

Try looking at what is going on with treaty negotiations right now at the UN-
    Selling out America

Try looking at almost any aspect of this administration's governance-

I'll vote for my dog this time if that is my only choice-

West Virginia has never voted in a black Congressman, and Obama lost horribly in 2008 vs. Hillary Clinton. There is no surprise here, and it has absolutely nothing to do with national trends.

It has less to do with politics, and more to do with race. Look up West Virginia's record on electing minorities.

I have lived in WV for 59 years. It is a racist backward state.Manchin and Tomblin have deserted the Democratic Party because of the culture of racism which exists. They say it is because of coal that WV does not support Obama, but, in fact, there are many openings in the coal industry. The fact is that the OPERATORS of mines oppose Obama who stands up for unions and safety (like the 32 miners killed in Raleigh County because of corruption in safety violations). I voted for President Obama and many others did also. He is one of our best presidents and I am going to other states to work during the election to help him win again. Most of the "papers" here crucify Mr. Obama on a daily basis. The people who can read (pun intended) are constantly bombarded with racist lies. I am So embarrassed! Please pray for the people of this state. Imagine living on food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid and ranking last in every socioeconomic concern and voting for Republicans.

Wow, amazing a state does not agree with Obama, and the left makes fun of the state. Most of the anti WV people who commented, I would guarantee your states are in the red or either bankrupt. Like another reader posted live off your wind mills etc. WV could close its borders and be self sufficient for centuries.

When your wife and your cousin are the same person and the "N-word" is a common part of your vocabulary you tend to pick a white meth-head over a black Harvard-grad. Nobody is shocked – It's West Virginia...

Don't believe the hype Mark, they will vote for him. He has one trait President Obama doesn't, white skin. They hate having a black man in the White House, even if the one they choose is a blatant liar.

    OBAMA 2012!

Folks – It's West Virginia. Do you really need this explained to you? Thankfully, they do not represent the majority of voters in this country!

Last night I watched Mitt take credit for the recovery of the Detroit auto industry. He also took credit for their bailout which puzzled even many conservatives. This may be a close race but in the end there will be some conservatives who will not be able to bring themselves to vote for Mitt. John Kerry was portrayed as a waffler. Just imagine how Mitt will be portrayed. His photo will be in every window of every waffle house. He is truely a man that will say anything to try and get elected.

Mark, I said basically this same thing last week. There will be a segment in our population who will not bring themselves to vote for this spineless, lying jerk no matter how much they hate the president. It is to that group, I say thank you.

@ Gotta Hurt – Nope. Sorry, but it doesn't bother us at all. We will be at the polls in November and voting for President Obama. Just says ALOT about the people of WV. Obviously, too many cutbacks in education in that State.

Wake up people - I have never seen a President so disrespected in all of my life
Were you in a coma during the Bush years??? Or do you have selective hearing impairment?? It was eight years non-stop from the leftist Democrats and stil goes on today.

Glad to vote again for Obama. He has the future in mind. Romney and the GOP are all about status quo preservation, and an imaginary past. A conservative wants to take away the right of women to vote now. Who are these people?

I feel sorry for West Virginians. The very welfare / government funding that the citizens of that state heavily rely on will be destroyed under the Republicans' agenda to enhance millionaires and billionaires pockets at the expense of the poor. I cannot why these people are so prejudice that they would rather suffer from someone like Romney who would destroy the economy but make the rich people wealthy (i.e., Bain )
