Federal inmate's sizable West Virginia presidential vote tally

(CNN) – An incarcerated 53-year-old man is beating President Barack Obama in eight West Virginia counties following the state's Democratic Presidential Primary Tuesday, according to the latest figures from the West Virginia secretary of state.

Keith Judd, who is currently serving a 210-month sentence at a correctional facility in Texarkana, Texas for extortion, is trailing the president 42.28% to 57.72% in the state based on the unofficial vote totals, but is leading in eight counties.

Judd only needs 15% of the vote to qualify for at least one delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer, according to The Charleston Gazette. His expected release date is June 24, 2013, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Obama has not had electoral success in West Virginia, a reliably red state in presidential politics. He was crushed by then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in the state's Democratic presidential primary in May 2008 by a 67% to 26% margin. And he lost the state to Sen. John McCain, the then-Republican presidential nominee, 56% to 43% in the November 2008 general election.

The Mountain State's Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and junior Sen. Joe Manchin have also recently distanced themselves from the president ahead of their 2012 elections.

In Tuesday's election, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney received nearly 70% of the vote, according to the latest unofficial figures, while former candidate Rick Santorum garnered over 12% support and Rep. Ron Paul captured just over 11% of the vote.

This was not a vote for a felon but to show that the people are fed up with Obama's lies. Standing at his campaign speech in 2007 stating how he supported the coal industry and then just look at what he is doing with this nation. Now the Gay marriage, what happened to one nation under God. Oh, I'm sorry let's take those passages out of the bible before they offend someone. I can't believe that people turn there back on the reason this nation was founded. If Obama ran for Dog catcher of Hazard county he would not get my vote.

Obama promised to make coal mining a thing of the past and he is doing his best to keep that promise. The people of West Virginia simply showed their displeasure with that.

The people of West Virginia deserve better than this, and the cowardly govenor and Jr Senator should be meeting with Obama to insure the best things for their state. Can we pls just do away with these self serving politicians ho refuse to serve everyone equally?

No surprise. It's the sticks. Look rednecks, there are millions of gay people around the world. Don't know why, but they want to live their lives and be happy – and free from your bible banging. So go head and regress while the rest of us move on. As for Coal Mining, any rules you have now for miner will vanish if Sketch Rob me, I mean Romney, gets into office. He's pro-profit at any cost, including your lives. Also expect longer hours for less pay and worse health care coverage.

For starters, I live in WV and no, we're no different then any other state. We had good people and we have bad people. This vote has a simple explanation that no one in the press seems to get or want to discuss..it's about the coal, stupid! Obama isn't popular here for one reason..he and his EPA have went to war on coal, and frankly, coal is all we have right now (although natural gas is on the horizon). Now, I'm not saying Obama's right or wrong on the issue of fossil fuels..doesn't matter for this discussion. What i'm saying is I think WV voters would pick ANYONE over Obama right now. The war on coal is choking this state out and I don't think anyone will argue that point. Coal is WV's lifeblood...I doubt any state other then Alaska is so dependent on one industry to survive. If you don't live here, you can't understand the environment. This is more then Detroit with cars or the Gulf with fish and oil, this is ALL WE HAVE PERIOD! It's not good, but right now it's true. I voted for Obama last time..will I again...I dunno. But for the folks killing our state with the inbreeding racist hick crap, I say get over it...don't go down to that level. Step back and look at why the state voted that way..it's obvious.

As a convicted felon, which a 210 month sentence implies, he cannot vote. But he can run for president? This has to be some sort of hillbilly joke.

West Virginia is a great state... Almost Heaven, West Virginia! It refers to the beauty of the state – and not religion. The problem is decades of corporate greed and cutting corners on safety. Regulations are rules - rules have to be in place to save parents, children and our very own neighbors. Life is the most valuable resource on this planet! You have to work at what you have and keep it up, not only for yourself, but for your neighbors. Think about others when you make decisions. This "me" generation believe "what's in it for me first." Then of course say, "no" to anything reasonable. There is a new breed of Americans moving forward that come from Father's and Mothers who saved everything to make life better for their offspring. We aren't as prepared as children from wealthy parents, but we will be...bring back the core principles of the American Dream. THOSE ARE: We are one big team working together on an experiment. Sometimes, there are bumps in the road but you re-route and move forward. You don't "waller" in the mud – you move forward! Move forward West Virginia!
