Federal inmate's sizable West Virginia presidential vote tally

(CNN) – An incarcerated 53-year-old man is beating President Barack Obama in eight West Virginia counties following the state's Democratic Presidential Primary Tuesday, according to the latest figures from the West Virginia secretary of state.

Keith Judd, who is currently serving a 210-month sentence at a correctional facility in Texarkana, Texas for extortion, is trailing the president 42.28% to 57.72% in the state based on the unofficial vote totals, but is leading in eight counties.

Judd only needs 15% of the vote to qualify for at least one delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer, according to The Charleston Gazette. His expected release date is June 24, 2013, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Obama has not had electoral success in West Virginia, a reliably red state in presidential politics. He was crushed by then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in the state's Democratic presidential primary in May 2008 by a 67% to 26% margin. And he lost the state to Sen. John McCain, the then-Republican presidential nominee, 56% to 43% in the November 2008 general election.

The Mountain State's Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and junior Sen. Joe Manchin have also recently distanced themselves from the president ahead of their 2012 elections.

In Tuesday's election, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney received nearly 70% of the vote, according to the latest unofficial figures, while former candidate Rick Santorum garnered over 12% support and Rep. Ron Paul captured just over 11% of the vote.

Okay, here is what "some" of you are NOT getting........They were voting for the guy in prison as a protest vote against Obama!! They were making it clear that they will be voting for ANYONE but Obama!! As someone else also stated-in North Carolina, 20% of the voters there selected "other" instead of Obama. So, it appears that Obama is definitely going to lose West Virginia......And, based on the fact that North Carolina passed the gay marriage amendment and 20% of their voters selected "other" instead of Obama, he will be losing North Carolina as well.

What some of you do not realize.......All voters in this country are not blind, clueless, gullible Obama supporters-especially the Independents!! The Independents are now going to Romney. Obama is going to get clobbered in November.

And, CNN had to try to claim that West Virginia has always been a red state-–because they are so shocked that Democratic voters are making it clear that they do not want Obama. Imagine how the voters in the many other coal producing states are going to vote as well.

Senator Richard Lugar who has a long history of bipartisan support on domestic and foreign policy, was voted out of congress after 36 successful years of devoting his life to serving his country and helping his fellow Americans! Sadly, the candidate he faced was a rightwing teapublican extremists who has argued that tepublicans must "stand their ground" and never support democrats whatsoever! First and foremost, as an American I woudl like to express my sincere and deespest appreciation and thanks to Senator Lugar for serving us the American people so courageously! And Senator Lugar, I assure you that this country will endure and continue to move forward because the American people adore and appreciate heroes like you Sir! Senator Lugar thank you so much for your service to our nation and may God bless you and your wonderful family! You're certainly an inspiration to our country! Thank you Mr. Senator!

I'd have to guess an open primary. The Repubs will then try to use this as another falsehood for their platform.

Hey Heather, I think the worst president in US history slot is already taken by GWB. Obama would have to go pretty far to screw up this country more than old George did.

Wonder how they would vote if this guy were running for mayor of their community.

This is what happens when a state has open primaries.

Can we say open primary...and the republicans are up to dirty tricks by voting for the convict to make it seem like no body is going to vote for the President. Ha Ha!

All you complaining that these 8 counties are racist, or rednecks, try this. Which president white or black is destroying the coal industry? The answer is Obama and his failed policies. I say the vote is just a harbinger to come in 2012. Americans are tired of the lies, bad policies of Obama. NOT WHITE OR BLACK issue, just someone who is way over his head.

All of these negative comments disturb me. You would think that we should be concentrating on the positives of Obama in the primary voting. For example:.......uhhhh.......uhhhh........ uhhh. never mind.

As West Virginia is a socialist Red State sucking up $2.57 for every dollar they contribute (2010 figures), this news just points out more of the same when it comes to their "real Amerikan" politics. And people still cannot figure out why this country is failing. Sad.

If President Obama's success in cleaning up the mess he inherited, stabilizing our economy, putting Americans back to work, ending the illegitimate Iraqi war, winding down the Afghan war, establishing affordable health insurance for the American people, passing financial reform to avert another depression, restoring our image abroad are all catergorized as bad for America, then I guess President Obama is truly a crook and a failure! Then I rather not support a better crook and failure than Obama! Obama/Biden 2012!

One word to describe this......Racism. It's West Virginia and its known for it Racism. Most red states are racist states, full of whites who hate minorities. Then again the republican party is also known for this.

Typical liberals. That can't win an argument on merit, so they personally attack the good people of hte state of WV. I think the 59% that voted for Obama are the ones whose intelligence we need to question.

    Why's this news?
Many voters support past and present criminals who are in the GOP. Some are outright known crooks, but by default, many wouldn't even dream of voting for President Obama, who's done much for our economy and social fabric. Screw'm.

As a WV resident, I'm embarrassed. It's pathetic; no other way to describe it. I've defended this state for so long by saying we aren't all toothless, uneducated morons. I have all my teeth, I've never gone hunting, I've never been on a four-wheeler, and I have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 in the three years I've been in college. Unfortunately, I seem to be in the minority. The second I graduate, I'm out of here. I can't be a part of this nonsense anymore.
