Democratic sources: Obama aides annoyed with Biden

Washington (CNN) - Multiple top Democrats said Thursday the president's senior aides are deeply annoyed with Vice President Joe Biden for forcing the conversation on same-sex marriage.

One source said Biden has, in the past, counseled the president against announcing support for same-sex marriage - making the circumstances that much more frustrating. Although other sources said they have not heard Biden make that point in recent years.

Biden made comments supporting such unions during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" that aired Sunday, seemingly forcing the issue to the forefront of public debate.

Another source said the recent events gave renewed life to old jokes and flippant remarks like, "Hello? Does he know this is the Obama presidency not the Biden presidency?"

None of these sources said they believed it would create a lasting rift between the West Wing and the vice president's office – because Biden has gone off script before and will do it again.

The president's team said they were aware of the risk when they tapped Biden for the ticket. One source added that the president has a close personal relationship with the former senator and that trumps his advisers' frustrations. But there is a great deal of interest in keeping the vice president "on script."

These top Democrats said they are not concerned that Biden will "get credit" for the same-sex marriage announcement. They said history will show it's the president who did this and they believe most people thought the president already supported same-sex marriage.

Sources also said the vice president feels bad about putting the president in a tough position.

As evidence he is not in the dog house, Biden hosted a student loan event at the White House Thursday and will make a two-day campaign swing in Ohio next week.

So Democrats are saying Obama is deeply annoyed with Vice President Joe Biden.

To bad Obama doesn’t hear how deeply annoyed the American public is with him.

I've said for a while that Crazy Joe needed to be evaluated medically. I think he's in early stage dimensia. But he's been doing it for so long you never know. Either way he is scary being a heartbeat away from the presidency. He's been wrong about just about everything in the foreign policy arena.

It's amazing how the media portrays Crazy Joe as such a likable guy when he's a constant gaff machine. The media was never that kind to Dick Cheney. Maybe Joe needs his own teleprompter? I don't know. But it is truly scary that he's next in line for the presidency in case something happens to obama. Please America, vote for Romney!!!!

At least when Biden blurts it's based on honesty and from a likeable personality. Not like he's the previous VP – the calculated and angry creepy old shadow walker without a heart or a conscience.

so let's be a hypocrit. romoney tells MA gay community he would be a better friend to them that ted kennedy and you are ok with it WOW.... IOKIYAR "It's OK If You're a Republican", he was also pro roe vs wade, not a reagan republican and helath care for all. one of my biggest issues with romoney is when someone asks hem a question he says i don't know or his aids say they don't know but they will get back to you. he then says i know how to get the country back up running. really? if he can't answer a simple question he can't do anything else.

Biden better not walk near any busses. Obama's allies always seem to end up UNDER them.

Seriously? They expect us to buy this story? At least Biden was courageous enough to say where he stands on the same-sex marriage issue, unlike Obama who tried to wiggle his way out of this one. And then they tried to get us to believe that Obama planned on making his announcement on The View show. Biden does get the credit not Obama. Thank you Biden!

I never thought I will say this. It is unfortunately that VP Biden never had a filter in whatever he says. It is sad that he should had worked as a team and not as an individual!

Mitt Romney began his political career supporting same sex marriages and unions. He campaigned on it in MA.

I think the voting public needs to better understand that this ia Act I of a three Act play. This adminstration is so transfixed on winning this election that they are putting into play the "old Switcharoo". Namely; VP Biden will begin to create some tensions between the President and himself. aka Act I. The second Act II will be an escalation of this tension by others saying that maybe it's time for good old Joe to think about being a team player and move onto other things. The President of course, being such a loyal friend and supporter of good old Joe, will have nothing of it. But good old Joe will realize that to support this President and to help the country, it would be best if he resigned, plus he wants to focus on his family. Act III, the President reluctantly accepts his resignation, siting all the great things that good old Joe has done, he might even give him a medal. But now the difficult job of finding someone who can fill these shoes. But who? Who is qualified to fill such a position? Ah...but there is only one, good old Hillary. Yes folks, all of this has been scripted for you and most of you will be fooled, once again by this man and his ambitions. But hopefully this might provide some fair warning.

This is a free society. It doesnt matter what you believe. You personal perception of perversion is irrelevant. Live your life by your standards and let others do the same.

This is all a bunch of crap, they only brought this up because of North Carolina's amendment vote on Tuesday. He's politicizing yet another incident to push focus off his failed presidency.

Get over it. It's not a surprise this is their position. This is government and not church. Of course gays should be able to marry and allowed equal treatment under the law.

Biden showed backbone and conviction, and certainly wasn't out of line in what he said. Obama should be careful, because many think Biden is the better man here. Obama should focus on Romney, and be proud to have a stellar guy like Biden as his second.

Joe Biden is just being himself, nothing more nothing less. I happen to think Biden did do him a favor because waiting to the convention is pretty late in the game, this way the news has a chance to sink in and be up for a vigorous debate this fall. The American people will decide who is on the right side of history!

I am glad Joe did that. I believe Obama has the wrong people around him and Joe is not afraid of sticking it out there. Good for him. The GOP will have their say that it is politically motivated, which is what Dems would say if it had been a Repub prez doing it. Who cares? Let's give human beings the right to marry. Life is too short for stupid insane agendas that prohibit the pursuit of happiness.

No one is annoyed at Biden. This is all carefully scripted.

#1 Biden puts out a stimulus to the public
#2 Obama's handlers poll the voters to see how it helps / hurts votes
#3 They find there are more votes generated than lost
#4 Obama comes out with the "big risk-taking surprise" announcement

Pretty simple, formula, cold, calculating and political. And yes both the RNC and DNC do the same thing. That is not news either.

First of all, the title said Obama's aides were annoyed with Biden, not Obama and of course none of them were named...just a generalized assumption. Secondly, I say good for Joe and in turn good for Obama for FINALLY taking a stance on this human rights issue. It's about time. We've waited and waited for this. Don't ask, don't tell is now a thing of the past, thanks to Obama. Now let's give equal marriage rights to everyone. It shouldn't even be a voting issue. Equal rights is equal rights, despite the prejudices and phobias of a certain faction in this country who actually call themselves "religious," yet seem to hate everyone who doesn't fall in line with their philosophies. What happens in someone else's marriage is no one's business but the couple who are married. Look to your own situation and stop sticking your noses where they don't belong. Come on, Obama, grow another pair and stop trying to find consensus with those who will never work with you, no matter what.
