Democratic sources: Obama aides annoyed with Biden

Washington (CNN) - Multiple top Democrats said Thursday the president's senior aides are deeply annoyed with Vice President Joe Biden for forcing the conversation on same-sex marriage.

One source said Biden has, in the past, counseled the president against announcing support for same-sex marriage - making the circumstances that much more frustrating. Although other sources said they have not heard Biden make that point in recent years.

Biden made comments supporting such unions during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" that aired Sunday, seemingly forcing the issue to the forefront of public debate.

Another source said the recent events gave renewed life to old jokes and flippant remarks like, "Hello? Does he know this is the Obama presidency not the Biden presidency?"

None of these sources said they believed it would create a lasting rift between the West Wing and the vice president's office – because Biden has gone off script before and will do it again.

The president's team said they were aware of the risk when they tapped Biden for the ticket. One source added that the president has a close personal relationship with the former senator and that trumps his advisers' frustrations. But there is a great deal of interest in keeping the vice president "on script."

These top Democrats said they are not concerned that Biden will "get credit" for the same-sex marriage announcement. They said history will show it's the president who did this and they believe most people thought the president already supported same-sex marriage.

Sources also said the vice president feels bad about putting the president in a tough position.

As evidence he is not in the dog house, Biden hosted a student loan event at the White House Thursday and will make a two-day campaign swing in Ohio next week.

I'm annoyed with Jessica. She's one of the big reasons I don't watch CNN much except on the weekends when I can be pretty sure she's not going to be on. Report on something important to the country, like where are the jobs and why isn't Wahington doing anything to repair it.

To all those who are trying to point out this situation as a 'proof' that the POTUS is as much a 'flip-flopper' than the former governor and (virtual) Republican candidate I have a question to make:
Is the POTUS pretending to never ever be against gay marriage?
If yes then you guys are right.
If no then you guys are wrong.
This because the former governor Mitt Romney has many issues in which his current views are very different than the ones he had a while back.
No problem at all here, everybody has the right to change his mind about this or that or that...
But he want us (everybody out there, me and you included) to believe that these 'current' positions/views are but the same than the ones he had last year or ten years ago.
    THAT is flip-flopping (aka HYPOCRISY).

PS: Dean – marriage/wedding are not just for procriation purposes only. Otherwise people with infertility issues would be also forbidden (per your position) to marry.
Not to mention that your position makes adoption something akin of a sin too (false families with no blood relation between 'parents' and 'sons/daughters')...

I'm truly loving this! Every group of people the GOTP & their "evangelical"base denounces, is swiftly accepted into the Democratic fold! Gays, women, immigrants, our kids education! Slowly but surely it becomes clear what Romney's platform is, even though he refuses to say a word about it! My vote goes to those who put People in a different category from Corporations! Forward! Obama/Biden 2012!!

So much BS! This has been calculated all along. The president knows there will be adverse reaction to this when you look at the overall numbers of for/against voters. If he were to wait until Sept, the fallout would be too close to election time and still a festering issue. This way , the topic has 6 months to settle into the dust and be a non-issue in November.. I'm so glad he "evolves" with his beliefs. Take a look at the timeline on this issue with Mr. Obama...he supported, then opposed and now he definitely supports gay marriage. Evolution does not work that way....but political posturing does! We now can call our President, " Flip-Flop Obama" No charachter or "spine"here

Hey 3rd party the reason the media doesnot report half of what brain dead Biden says is because it is plageris.

Good for Biden! Yes, he pushed the President's hand and maybe it wasn't the smoothest move, but the overwhelming support (and subsequent donations) as a result of Obama's simple but supportive statement will win the day and for the sake of our country, hopefully the election! Obama/Biden 2012 !!

To the Christ Nazis and other red state inbreds.….
Would you let a gay doctor save your life? And after he/she saved you life, would you hide behind your Bible and tell them that he/she can’t be married?

@ steamy load in your hand ~ Repub's war on women was planned and so was their war on the middle class – just that Repubs are too stupid to understand that they would get caught.
President's tactics are meant to confuse lower life forms ~ still confused?

I'm happy to see the Vice President take a stand on an issue that matters in the 21st century, unlike his colleagues, who avoid issues at all cost (because they have no intention of ever addressing them and only want to get elected) and engage in mud slinging that does nothing to help America cure our problems! Kudos to Mr. Biden!

    BRING ON THE DEBATES!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you drive by our National Cemeteries and look across the endless acres of headstones you'll be looking at many, many fallen Servicemembers who were gay. You won't be able to tell which of the Warriors were gay – but you won't see their partners buried next to their loved ones because we don't honor their service enough to give them that final tribute. Right-wing Christianity is about hate and bigotry.

Biden annoys "everyone" – If Obama think he is going to lose this election, he will dump him faster than Dolly Parton ditching a size A bra....

They should be annoyed with themselves for not having the backbone to have a clear position on the matter. Good for Biden to get some movement. Once again, Obama reacts rather than leads, but would we rather have Mitt the insubstantial? Once again, the system is broken, no good choices for one of the most important jobs in the world.
