Obama website change covers policy deficiency, Romney camp says

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's campaign says an update to the website of President Barack Obama's campaign is more than an update - it highlights an omission from the Obama administration's energy policy.

Obama's campaign website was recently updated to include "clean coal" in a graphic highlighting "President Obama's approach to energy independence." The change was highlighted by Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg, who said in a statement that "President Obama has broken his promise when it comes to pursuing energy independence."

Reached by CNN on Friday, a spokesman for Obama did not dispute the Romney campaign's allegation.

The spokesman, Ben LaBolt, said clean coal is "an essential part of the Presidents all of the above energy strategy."

But Romney didn't back off from the issue at a campaign event on Friday, suggesting his campaign sees the issue as larger than a dot-com drop.

"He's making it harder and harder to get coal mines and coal used in this country, and yet he says he's for 'all of the above,' " Romney said in Charlotte, North Carolina. "And I couldn't figure out what he means because he's been fighting oil and coal and gas–and then it came to me. He's for all the sources of energy that come from above the ground, alright? And I'm for all the energy that comes from above the ground and below the ground."

The phrase "clean coal" refers to technologies which reduce the negative environmental impact of coal, one of the dirtiest of fossil fuels. The American Coalition for Clean Coal Technology, an industry group supporting adoption of these technologies, said the term "includes devices that increase the operational efficiency of a power plant, as well as those technologies that reduce emissions."

The president most recently highlighted his administration's clean energy efforts in his State of the Union address, when Obama called for investments and tax credits to encourage innovation and use of clean technologies, as well as reductions in energy waste.

In his 2011 address, Obama said set a clean energy goal: "By 2035, 80 percent of America's electricity will come from clean-energy sources."

"Some folks want wind and solar. Others want nuclear, clean coal, and natural gas," he said. "To meet this goal, we will need them all, and I urge Democrats and Republicans to work together to make it happen."

Seven months later, the fact checking website PolitiFact said the clean coal partnerships was "stalled," noting "the unlikelihood of any energy legislation in the 112th Congress" means the administrations "Clean Coal Power Initiative" was unlikely to expand beyond the three companies which ultimately received federal funding.

The clean coal addition to Obama's website was placed in a spot which previously touted the administration's fuel efficiency efforts.

Obama put West Virgina out of business and it reflects in the democratic primary vote there. Obama would rather import Chinese solar panels than see us utilize any of our natural resources. One word sums up Obama's idea of a green movement, Solyndra. Maybe he can go make movies now with Al Gore and Michael Moore.

There is no such thing as clean coal, it may be cleaner than it was but that doesn't take much.

Atta girl, Mittens! Nothing like another rabid attack that is detached from all reality and common sense, much like the insane GOBP cult you purport to "lead." If you don't understand the meaning and importance of "clean coal" you are giving us yet another reason to find you unfit for office.

President Obama included "clean coal" in his State of the Union address. Like Sarah Palin, Romney needs to speak less and listen more.

At one time the oil industry operated with no environmental regulations. A good portion of the ground water wells were contaminated forever, surface waters were horribly polluted, and our air quality was horrible. They cleaned up their act and those companies are making huge profits and drilling more now than during the Bush years. A lot of people didn't get cancer because of those regulations. Coal can do the same thing and remain a treasured resource fovever.

Romney "He's making it harder and harder to get coal mines and coal used in this country, "... what he is really saying is that Government should allow coal mines to operate unsafely and power plants to burn coal with no regrad to ommissions, so that Romney's Buddies can make more profit. Also not stated, but true ( WE ALL KNOW ROMNEYS AGENDA) : no unions for the coal workers... no increase in minumun wage... no health affordable health care for the workers ... no quality educations for there kids ... no headstart programs .... make entry into coledge more difficult for thier kids... and when workers are hurt in a coal mining accident .... no disability ... no medicare .... no saftynet ... when they are too old to work the mines but not old enough for social security .... to bad , when they are old enough for solcal security ... lower that as well .......

Since West Virginia and other major coal producing states have been mining and selling more coal under Obama than any time in the past 20 years (in fact accounting for most of the growth in their employment) the idea that Obama has been anything but good for US coal production is ridiculous...and can only be supported by people who are more interested in spouting conservative talking points than in learning the facts.

Meanwhile, you want to talk deficiency? Has Romney proposed any new policy that he wants to have? He even complained when the CBO tried to score his budget proposal during the primaries because, according to him, the budget wasn't complete enough to score. So before Romney criticizes Obama for leaving a single thing out of the many many policies that he has available to examine on his website, perhaps Romney should come up with a single policy proposal which is complete enough for the public to examine and judge.

"Obama put West Virginia out of business"...?
Guess you had better tell Brazil who bought $456M of coal last year – 80% of it's export.
Or, maybe Canada needs to be notified,
or, maybe you should read your own newspapers.
This came from the WVA Gazette, dated May 11, 2012. Coal exports from W. Va. are booming, and that is
great news. BTW it started in 2010.

So George Kaiser of Solyndra was a fundraiser and campaign bundler for Obama and is known for legally using strategies to avoid paying taxes, he had managed to not pay federal taxes for many years and Obama didn't care about this and was willing to give Solyndra millions of our tax dollars? Seriously, I thought Obama felt that the rich should pay a higher tax then the rest of us or just pay taxes yet he doesn't care that George Kaiser did the opposite of what he preaches?? total hypocrite!!!!

  23. Obama 2012 - BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of FAILURE

You mean Obama isn't proud that he has now targetted thousands of people for job termination in VW? They will probably lose their homes, maybe their families? All because they dared work in an industry that supplied energy for this country for over a hundred years but now Obama has deemed it a dirty evil business that must die.

Come on Obama! Be a man and stand up and take credit for your actions. You're so good at taking credit for the brave actions of Seal Team 6 but not THIS? Obama is nothing but a coward.

"Obama would rather import Chinese solar panels than see us utilize any of our natural resources."

Do you even have any idea how stupid that sounds? You're just a nother victim of doubelthink, I suppose. The GOP/Teatrolls have been complaining that Obama and the Dems are spending atxpayer money on green energy solutions. Guess where the companies are that the program invests in. Go ahead, guess. I'll give you a hint: it's not China. The entire point of the program is to jump start OUR green energy industry, beacuse right now China is kicking our butts silly in developing the technology and infrastructure for producing it. The reality is, it's the GOP/Teatrolls who are supporting China by trying to prevent the USA from jumpstarting its own gren energy industry to compete with China's. That you don't understand it is clear. That someone lied to you and you just plain old believed their misinformation...is sad.

"One word sums up Obama's idea of a green movement, Solyndra."

Ah, I see...so the doublethink brainwashing is proven. Solyndra is the exception to the rule in light of how successful the vast majority of companies have been that have receievd money under the program. Oh, and by the way, do you know where Solyndra was located? Hint: it's not China.
