Obama campaign attacks Rove's 'B.S.'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's deputy campaign manager used a three-minute web video Thursday to take on the latest ad from the independent group Crossroads GPS, point by point.

"Karl Rove's group Crossroads is spending $25 million from secret donors to tear down the president in a new ad," Stephanie Cutter said to open the spot. "Time to tear this thing apart."

The web video is the official counter from the Obama re-election campaign to the Crossroads commercial that claims the president has broken promises surrounding homeowners facing foreclosures, taxes, health care coverage and cutting the deficit.

On Wednesday, the Rove-backed group said it would spend $8 million to run the ad in ten battleground states between now and the end of May and is expected to spend $25 million to air the spot over the next four weeks.

But Cutter pushed back on the ad's four claims, saying the president's policies have helped 6 million homeowners with their mortgages, led to a drop in middle class taxes, enabled individuals to keep their current health care coverage as part of the federal law and that Obama enacted $1 trillion in spending cuts to help reduce the deficit.

Short clips of Romney are interspersed throughout the video to prove the policies of the presumptive Republican presidential candidate would roll back Obama's progress. Cutter then asks supporters to "call out" Rove.

"So another special interest attack ad, another set of outright distortions and another time when I need to ask you to do what you do best: get the president's back," she said. "Karl Rove is relying on you to do nothing to call out his B.S., and I know you'll prove him wrong."

Crossroads GPS is the sister organization to American Crossroads, which first became active in the 2010 mid-term elections as an independent super PAC supporting GOP causes and candidates. Its founders included Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush and former Republican National Committee chairmen Mike Duncan and Ed Gillespie.

A Wesleyan Media Project study released earlier this month, which used data from Kantar Media/Campaign Media Analysis Group, indicated that Crossroads GPS is the biggest spender on general election ads so far, dishing out $12.6 million to run nearly 17,000 spots in 47 television markets.

Whether or not you support Obama, there is no denying that Rove is a dirtbag. Just look at how he slandered McCain – it was shameless.

FLindependant (akafldemocrat) The stimulus has proven to hurt more than help. It was a wish list for dems that had no bipartisan support (except Maine which will soon change). They extorted money from Bush to keep the trops funded and then blame him for overspending. Dems are always for sale, and Obama more than most. Hmmm.......what does that make them?

    May 17, 2012 01:54 pm at 1:54 pm |

FLindependant is no independant. Why do dems lie about who they are? Are they ashamed or do they just want to put their shame upon the backs of others? Probably both. Even dems are turning against this pres. Hes toast.

Hate to break it to you, Mat, but the stimulus did what its backers, both Dem and GOP, intended: it minimized the damage as much as possible. Dick Cheney acknowleged at the time that, while he was philosophically opposed to the idea of a stimulus, he accepted the neccesity. Strike one against the first of your theses. AS far as Democrats not wanting to acknowlege blame, all I can say is that the collective amnesia the GOP seems to have about 3 decades of policies that they drove through and their disasterous impact on this country is astonishing. No attempt at saying that their math was wrong, no attempt to say they looked the other way while their friends in the business community took our money, gambled with it, and lost. No attempt to take responsibility whatsoever, but they lay the evils of the world at the feet of the man who inherited their mess and made it their mission to see he would fail. Too bad the mission has failed, inspite of a hostile GOP, a Supreme Court that has reversed our standards on elections back to the era of the smoke-filled room. The GOP will accept the money of plutocrats and ridicule the people they ahve conned into donating.

I would expect nothing less from this dirtball. And we can expect to see even more of it. What to do about it: Go to Mitt's rallies and call him out on them! Ask him if he supports what these ads say "Yes or No Mitt?".. Oh yeah, and call your Congressman and tell him/her to do something to get rid of Citizens United, and get all the money out of politics!

Hey reality check, i think you may need one. How quickly you forget how your buddy bankrupted this country by starting an unneded war in iraq, spending billions every month all while cutting taxes for the rich. The math is simple.

Why not run negative AD's about Karl Rove and his croney cohorts and expose them for what they are. I mean if they have this big pot of money, let's expose how much they make off the deal and tell the real truth! That would put Ole Karl on the defensive for a while and feel the hot seat! Start by looking at property records of what he's been able to aquire..show everyone he's .5 percenter!

Lets not forget that it was Republicans who favored party over Country. Doing whatever they could to reject his policies even as experts warned that if nothing is done the recessions could continue for many more years. Thank the Lord that the FED is nonpartisan and was willing to STEP up to the plate to stimulate the economy which is bringing a turnaround for the United States. All Republicans were hoping to accomplish these last four years were to ensure that President Obama would be a one term President.

So if President Obama enacted $1 trillion in spending cuts, why did the budget grow by 18% in one year? That's not a spending cut. That's a spending INCREASE. Be careful whose BS you believe.

How much have your commissions grown in the last 2 years? Do you really think John Boehner had anything to do with that? If your name is indicative of your profession, I suggest you quit, since you obviously can't observe trends objectively.

It's times like this I take refuge in believing there are special corners in hell for some people. Anyone who associates with Karl Rove after his performance in the last few campaigns deserves to be in a nearby corner. There are not words strong enough in my vocabulary to properly relate the total disgust at this man.

Finally got around to watching this. Where are the specifics? She is as bad as the Rove backed ads. What supporting data does she have that Middle CLass taxes are lower under Obama, or that $1 Trillion was cut from the deficit? Only middle class reduction in taxes was the Bush cuts 10 years ago. Teh payroll tax cuts were temporary and had minor impact on middle class payers. The deficit keeps growing at an astonishing rate, so how do we figure there was a $trillion cut?

He cut FUTURE SPENDING INCREASES and NOT current spending. It's all part of the non-reality of "spending cuts" by Obama. It's pure deceit and then sol das if there were real cuts to current spending. Please try not to inhale too much of the smoke or knock down any of the mirrors else reality might intrude.
