Romney’s April cash haul nearly matches Obama's

(CNN) - Game on.

Mitt Romney nearly matched President Barack Obama in April in the race for campaign cash.

The campaign of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee confirms to CNN that they and the Republican National Committee brought in $40.1 million last month, just shy of the $43.6 million the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised in April.

While the Obama/DNC fundraising figure in April was slightly down from their March figure, the $40.1 million brought in by the Romney team was a huge jump over its March haul, when Romney was still battling for the Republican nomination. Since then, his main rival for the nomination, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and another rival, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, suspended their campaigns, and Romney became the all-but-certain nominee. His campaign began joint fundraising with the RNC early last month, as donors began coalescing around the former Massachusetts governor.

In a statement set for release Thursday morning, the Romney campaign will report having $61.4 million cash on hand as of the end of April, and they will say 95% of last month’s donations were $250 or less. The Obama campaign did not release where its cash on hand stands in their Wednesday announcement, but as of the end of March the campaign had $104 million in the bank. The Obama re-elect says that 98% of its donations are $250 or less.

“We are pleased with the strong support we have received from Americans across the country who are looking for new leadership in the White House,” said Romney campaign finance chairman Spencer Zwick, in the statement.

The New York Times was first to report this story.

Wait, what? Isn't one of our regular rightwing posters running around here yelling daily about how the poor defenseless GOBP cult is simply too poor and weak to compete with the crushing power the Dems wield?

How many of the donors were maxed out by this donation? That has been Romney's problem where there are so few small donors that the big ones get maxed out so quickly.

Romney and his wife had a net worth of between $190 and $250 million, most of it held in blind trusts since 2003. It has been estimated that Romney has amassed twice the net worth of the last eight presidents combined, and would rank among the four richest in American history if elected. Talk about the 1%!

Some one has to tell Mittens that he has no has no leadership qualities. A lack of understanding of foreign policy, more tax cuts for the wealthy, eliminating any regulations on Wall Street, ending planned parenthood, attacking women's reproductive rights, eliminating social security as we know it, raising the borrowing rate for college loans, having the middle class pay for his new wars, and being white, sure fire up the right wingnuts, but leave a lot to be desired in a president.

An expected uptick in fundraising for the candidate that just became the nominee. As voters learn more about Flip Robmey they will more inclined to support Obama and this article will mean nothing.

Liberals believe such statements only when they reference liberal candidates.

►Romney’s April cash haul nearly matches Obama's◄
Hmm, but Obama's $$ was donated by donors like me ($10) in an effort to have dinner with Clooney & the Obamas
I did not win but in reality I did not expect to win and will continue with my donations no matter how small
Because in reality, my fellow Americans, "The Only Trusted Way Forward" is reelecting Obama in the Fall!!

    Yes We Can!!

Of course - all his wealthy buddies are pitching in for him - they want their 14% tax rate lowered.

My last year of working I paid 28% and you know what? I was happy that I made enough to pay it. A lot better than minimum wage or no job at all (which is what you'll get with Romney).

Romney knows how to make money for himself. Good for him. He does NOT know how to help the "little guy".

  17. Common sense!

Wao way to Romney !"Romney’s April cash haul nearly matches Obama's" and above all Romney didn't sell his soul to the devil for campaign contributions.

Republicans know that Romney is their guy– it is not as if they have any alternative. Still, getting Romney elected means that they can get more tax cuts before the game is up, when even defense will have to be cut to pay for the tax cuts. Eventually, the white working class will realize that the GOP has nothing for them, and you can't reduce the deficits without cutting the biggest spending items in the budget: defense, Social Security and Medicare.
