Video: Rubio calls out Obama as divisive

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said in an interview Thursday that President Barack Obama has become more divisive since 2008 and he's the cause of gridlock in Washington.

"This country has major problems. In 2008, irrespective of how you felt about the president's policies, we all hoped he'd be a uniter, he'd unite American politics and allow us to focus on the issues of the day even if we disagreed," Rubio said in an interview with CNN en Español anchor Juan Carlos Lopez.

"That Obama is long gone," Rubio continued. "The Obama that occupies the presidency is one who made the cold political calculation that the only way he can win is by pitting one groups of Americans against another. Convincing one group that their life isn't doing better because another is doing too well. This constant pitting of one group against another is divisive in a way we haven't seen by a president in modern political history."

This from the party that divides the country in two: Real Americans (Republicans, the middle of the country) and Not Really American/Hates America (Democrats, big cities)

Wow. Cold political calculations find a ready home in Rubio's party, and, considering the fact he got into his present job through a blatant playing on people's fears and portraying the President as "unamerican", hypocritcal beyond belief. But, thats the way things are in rightie world. Support and subsidize those who have done very well by forcing others to live on stagnant or shrinking incomes, and make them greatful for it: that's the conservative political calculus. Oh, and throw in a dash of bigotry and denial of civil rights, just for fun.

Obama is divisive. He has torn this nation into pieces to help his re-election chances. Rich vs poor. While vs non-white. Blue collar vs white collar. Very Sad.

He is right. Mr. Obama promised to unite us but instead has further divided us. Just another reason to vote for Mitt!

Obama is the "divider"? Really? When key members of the GOP met on the very day of his inaugeration and plotted to disrupt, delay, and kill anything he tried to do to ensure he only got one term? You have a lot of nerve senator.

Well, I would believe you Senator, but there is that little statement made by the leading Senator in the Republican part. Can't you remember, the Senator from Kentucky who stated that the number one priority was to make Obama an "one-term" president.
That sounds to me like the bigger source for a divisive, ineffective government than we seen in a long time. Let's not forget the effort to cut the long term budget by 4 billion which had no shot at getting past because it would include something that every scarecrow brain in America know– you got to have both cuts in spending and growth in revenue.
Political heads count on voters having short, selective memory and no regards for facts.

  9. The REAL Truth...

You got to love the tired old same-o, same-o "divisive" approach from the deficits-don't-matter Grand Obstructionist Party!
    – Divisive is EXACTLY what they have been since the announcement from McConnell/Boeher that the intend to make Obama a one term President.
    – Divisive is what the GOP has been since they decided to oppose ACA (95% GOP health plan BTW) because it was passed by the Obama administration – even if they WERE invited to the party, but REFUSED (then complained about it being written behind closed doors).
    – Divisive is what the GOP has been over the debt ceiling and the ratings downgrade – which they promptly reneged on with the most recent House-passed GOP budget
    – Divisive is what the GOP has been with the Ryan budget plan.. knowing full well that its not acceptable to the Dem's so let's grandstand a while so the GOBP can blame the other side.
    – Divisive is what the GOP has been for 3.5 yrs.. .period!

Truer words were never spoken. Obama has spent the last 4 years dividing America (rich vs. poor; black vs. white: black vs. hispanic). It is no wonder that since Obama became president, racial attacks have risen and we now see flash mob violence.

You and your cahoots had pledge from day one of the Obama presidency to block all his efforts to improve the
economy and you have the guts to say he is divisive. In reality you Republibans cannot accept that a black person
is in the White House. You are corrupt from the very beginning of your political career and it is hard to hide from the truth.

being united doesn't mean join the extremist right fringe you belong to, Mr. Rubio. Means that BOTh sides reach across the isle, but your party has ousted all the moderates!

Nice try, Rubio-cito! Come on up to Union City, NJ, the 2nd largest Cuban Community in the USA. and see what they think of you and alexithymic Mitt. Both of you would be booed before finishing your first sentences.

  16. Wake up people

This coming from the party that signed a pledge to make the President of the United States a one term President on the very same night he was elected. This coming from a party that has done absolutely nothing to get this country on track. I got news for you Rubio, this country has been divided from inception. We had what 43 white presidents before we had even one black one and if you weren't running around being a token, you would see that. Jeez, you and Herman Cain have to be the two biggest idiots in politics.

    OBAMA 2012!

Either Rubio is a moron who believes the bile that is coming out of his mouth, or he thinks that the people who will lap it up are morons. There are no other explanations.

"Convincing one group that their life isn't doing better because another is doing too well."

He didnt' have to convince anyone of that. The NUMBERS do it for him, moron. The FACT is that the rich have gotten richer while the poor got poorer and the middle class shrank. The FACT is that the middle class's salaries have remained stagnant for 40 years while the 1% have made more and more and more and more money off the blood, sweat and tears of said middle class whle refusing to share any of the sweat equity in the form of higher salaries and better benefits etc. The GOP/Teatrolls call these people the "job creators" and then want to deny that those same "job creators" are also the people who have kept middle class salaries stagnant for 40 years while they went from making 7 figure salaries to 8 and 9 figures and received massive, inequitable tax cuts. The FACT is, it is GOP/Teatroll economic policies, deregulation, tax cuts, etc., that have made this happen. The FACT is that upward economic mobility in this country has been decreasing rapidly for several decades. The list goes on and on. POINTING OUT THESE FACTS IS NOT DIVISIVE. The ONLY reason it becomes divisive is because the GOP/Teatrolls refuse to talk about these FACTS substanively and resopnd by saying "socialism" and "class warfare" and "you're being divisive." THAT is what is divisive. MAN UP AND TALK SUBSTANCE YOU CONSERVATIVE COWARDS. STO RUNNING FROM THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH: THE CLASS WAR HAS ALREADY BEEN WON BY THE RICH AND YOU HELPED THEM WIN IT.

This from the Party of ‘MORALS’ who lied, then spent billions of dollars to kill hundreds of thousands of women and children, and demonize an entire faith; and then accuse all those American citizens who opposed their failed criminal policies of being traitors….

So it is not divisive if the GOP wages a war on women, seniors, veterans, the middle class, the poor, and college students? If they think that brings us together they are true idiots.
