Fehrnstrom: Romney was elected governor in a similar economy

(CNN) - When Mitt Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts in 2002, the state was in an economic situation similar to where the country is now, Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom said in a Friday interview on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"The state was in recession, in many ways the circumstances of the economy were similar to what the nation is facing now. We were losing thousands of jobs every month, the budget was completely unbalanced," he said. The Obama campaign points to 26 consecutive months of job creation, which began shortly after President Barack Obama took office.

"After four years, Mitt Romney had turned that situation completely around. The budget had been balanced four years in a row without raising taxes," Fehrnstrom said.

But how many jobs did Mitt help create in Mass? How many were lost? WHY would a man running for president leave the fact that he was a governor out of all his speeches? WHY? Job loss and Romneycare, that's why! So he wants to focus on what he did in the private sector but when Obama does that, Bain is suddenly off limits? Romney 2012 for Hypocrite In Chief.

And he left the state with a 47 or 48 ranking in employment?

Romney won't have the opportunity to outsource more American jobs....

You won't read this article on Huffington Post! What? Romney turned a state around and actually balanced a budget? He may not have created a lot of jobs, just like Obama, but at least he was fiscally responsible.

The fact is when Romney was Gov. of Mass. the state ranked 47th in job creation. Romney raised state spending by 6.5% each year & left Mass. with the largest per-capita debt of any state in the union. When he left Mass. as Gov. 73% of Mass. voters said that they would never vote for him again. Plus, Romney's current top 2 economic advisors are the same top advisors used by Bush.

.......and then he "flopped" & left his state w/the 3rd worst economy in the nation! Mitt Romney's hero, W, took a healthy economy, w/a surplus & drove us straight to the "poorhouse"! How can the ruling class of Republicans call themselves fiscally conservative & supporters of less government, when they consistantly spend our $$$ like there's no tomorrow & intrude "government" in the most invasive way possible!? Intra-uterine wand, any1!? Forward w/Obama or Back to 1912 w/the GOTP!!

Romney was dealing with a bush economey like Obama has been trying to fix for the last 3 years. In 2002 it just wasn't as bad of a screw up as it was when bush really screwed it up in. So why would you think that another republican is going to fix what bush did when they both have the same ideas? Romney being pres will only make it worse. Obama 2012!!!!!

Yeah, after unemployment peaked at over 10% near the end of total Democratic control of the federal government for 2 years. Still there are 5,000,000 less Americans working today than there were when Obama took office. So let's go with the Obama/ Biden 2012 strategy and bring their economic performance out front for all to see. This is where they lose.

No, Mr. Fehrnstrom, the situation was much like it was in 2008. And after four years, Obama has turned it completely around. That's actually called a recovery from a recession, and it honestly doesn't have a lot to do with who's the executive. I wish people would stop blaming Presidents for economic cycles.

"The Obama campaign points to 26 consecutive months of job creation, which began shortly after President Barack Obama took office."
That is the most bizarre, out-of-place sentence. It might have fit if the post were fully written, but this is a half-baked post. And so that sentence almost seems like someone had to get in a defensive move for President Obama. (And that 26 months claim would have to be based on tricky statistical methods. No one believes we're in the middle of an economic expansion or significant job growth.)

Romney was AWOL the last 2 years of his governorship. How do you explain that? Is that why he's avoiding even the mention of his half term as governor?

Romney was 4 year governor of Massachusetts, won't dare to tell what he has done. His campaign platform: Don't ask Don't tell – His first day in White house: (1) replaced Obamacare with Romney care, a pefect fit. (2) Learn Chinese
