Gingrich: Obama an 'American-born job-killing president'

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich, speaking outside an event raising money for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said the event's host, Donald Trump, was not distracting the Republican Party with his questions about the president's birth certificate.

"Gov. Romney's not distracted," Gingrich said in Las Vegas. "The Republican Party's not distracted. We believe that this is an American-born job-killing president. Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs, but that's an argument over background."

Gingrich's comments came as Romney and Trump convened with campaign donors at Trump's International Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for a fundraising event that was expected to bring in millions of dollars for the presumptive GOP nominee. Romney has been under pressure from Democrats to condemn Trump for his questioning of President Barack Obama's place of birth.

Gingrich, who battled Romney for the GOP nomination before dropping his bid in April, said he personally believed President Obama was born in Hawaii, and is thus constitutionally eligible to be president, and that the focus should remain on the president's jobs creation record.

Asked if the so-called "birther" conspiracy had racist undertones, Gingrich pointed to other African-American politicians who do not face similar lines of questioning.
"I know that there is a desperate need to attach racism to everything, but in fact I think that Donald Trump said what he said because he thinks that it's the right thing for him to say," Gingrich said.

He continued, "Nobody runs around and asks whether Col. [Allen] West was born in the United States. He's an African-American, you know. He's a congressman. Nobody runs around and says was Tim Scott born in the United States. He's a congressman. He's an African-American. So the idea of asserting that any charge against Obama somehow manages magically in the media to get back to racism, I think it is just one more device to protect Obama."

Gingrich said he wasn't about to suggest to Trump what he should and shouldn't say. Asked if Trump was a "loose cannon," Gingrich quipped the celebrity business magnate was a "loose entrepreneur."

"He has made his fame by being who he is," Gingrich said.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Under whom the economy has added private sector jobs for 26 straight months. Honestly, you don't know how to argue with Republicans. They think they are entitled to their own facts, or they can make them up.

Even though he didn't get some votes from some counties in TX primary, Gingrich and GOP are right. This man kills jobs, kills money for Class C, D and E families, kills hope, kills barrier between US and China and kills production lines (if he is).

  4. Oh Say can you see

Today a Republistan-born, America-killing, presidential candidate, former-disgraced-speaker of the US House of Representatives, who recently went bankrupt on his ploy to tell the citizens of the US how his good-business skills and good-governance-by-fiat are virtues he uniquely has as the next, great, world statesman. . . . . . .

Why is this guy still standing? A total embarrassment to humanity. No self respect, ran and ranked the worst out of all the republican candidates of 2012. And yet, he won't go away.

People can blame all they want but the truth is President Obama inherited this mess from the last President. It's going to get better one day when we all can work together. Our Heavenly Father is not happy with any of it. We better get it together in both parties or it's going to continue no matter who's in the office

Well, Gingrich got it half right. The President is indeed American-born. Not sure why the media doesn't call out Newt for lying about jobs though.

For last 3 years under Obama there has been steady, solid job growth. Under the last Republican president, for 8 years that job grown was stagnant. And then at the end of Bush's presidency the market collapse and millions of people lost their jobs. But dogma and facts go together like oil and water.

Though, as of April 2012, we still have fewer jobs (in adjusted numbers) than when President Obama took office, jobs are being added at a faster clip under Obama than under George Bush at the same time in his presidency. At this point in Bush's presidency (April 2004), there were still 1,415,000 fewer jobs than when he was inaugurated in January 2001 (compared to 572,000 fewer for Obama). The number of jobs didn't eclipse the number when Bush was first inaugurated until February 2005, in Bush's second term.

In seasonally adjusted numbers as of April 2012, 4,248,000 private-sector jobs have been created since the bottom of the recession. (Remember that job loss continued for about a year after Obama was inaugurated.)

Nobody asked if Obama was born in the U.S. when he was Senator. It wasn't until after Obama announced he was running for POTUS that all the stupidity began. Keep talking Newt, America needs a little more comedy. Here's more comedy...ask a repub. where McCain was born. 99% have no clue, McCain was born in Panama and has never presented his birth certificate. But then, McCain is white and was never a threat!

This IS racist. Why else would they ask ONLY the first black President for his birth certificate, school transcripts, etc. when NO OTHER President was ever asked for the same? And even after it was proven that he was born here. Romney showed his birth certificate and all is well. Obama showed his during the campaign and birthers still didn't believe. Showed it to Donald Trump again last year and they still complain. Racism!

Oh, and Romney wants the racist Trump front and center in his campaign raising this issue. Remember Romney was a bishop in the Mormon church at the time they didn't accept blacks. Romney is a racist.

Even though, Newt called Romney a Lier and a man without a core, he still supports him and pushes him on his followers. What does this tell you about Mr. Gingrich? A total weasel and loser. Wake up America!
