Poll: Michelle Obama quite liked

(CNN) – First lady Michelle Obama is still a popular figure in the United States, according to a new poll of Americans released Wednesday.

The Gallup survey indicated the first lady has a 66% favorable rating, unchanged from two years ago and consistent with the figures she received when her husband, Barack Obama, was sworn in as president.

Although her rating did not top 54% during the 2008 presidential campaign, she received a boost shortly before inauguration in 2009, to 68%.

Americans tend to view first ladies more positively than presidents, a trend continued in the current administration. Michelle's favorable figure has averaged nine percentage points higher than her husband, who 52% of Americans view in a positive light, according to the latest Gallup figures.

Former first lady Laura Bush, wife of former President George W. Bush, averaged a 73% rating during her eight years in the White House. Hillary Clinton, the current secretary of state and wife of former President Bill Clinton, received an average of 56% through Clinton's two terms.

I've watched the far right criticize her over the years from everything about her drive to curb obesity to the dresses she wears to her weight. You can usually tell someone's character when they put someone else down. This is a woman who, like previous first ladies, has nothing to do with policies being set or laws being passed. Try looking at this woman as a person and not as an extension to those things you hate and find so different from yourselves. She has done outstanding work, and without political intentions driving them.

there's nothing classy about the M. Obama. She's an opportunist who has exploited to the nth her position by taking expensive lavish vacations at the taxpayers' expense, taking 250 guests to NYC for dinner and theatre...again at the taxpayers expense. Sending her daughter to Mexico with her girlfriends and TWENTY FIVE secret service men to protect them...again at the taxpayers' expense. Taking an expensive vacation to Africa with an entourage of about 200...all at taxpayers expense...this was all done while Americans are unemployed, sleeping in their cars, and seeing their children go to sleep hungry...Yeah...she's classy alright...

I guess Americans like the least intelligent ones better because they liked that Stepford wife, Laura the best.

@Al: "Barack Hussein cheerleader, and she wants him to win so that they can continue to have her mom living at the tax payers expense. She has to back him."

I'm sure in the past when young children have lived in the White House, nannies were provided. It has been much better for Sasha and Malia to have their grandmother live with them and I'm more than happy to pay for it.

And newsflash, Bub: Michelle Obama loves and respects her husband; that's why she's backing him.

Just because you don't have anyone in your life willing to do that ...

Not impressed at all with her or President Obama.

Hopefully, he will not be re-elected. He helped to divide our nation even more, one controversy after another

Well she sure isn't my favorite lady by any means. You people who say she has a good figure must be looking a different lady than I am. Have you ever seen her without her make-up and a good look at her behind? I don't know why people fall all over her. She once said she hated America, and now she's probably sitting in the White House very smug. Do some research on her and you'll find that it's true. Another thing is her big shopping spree, no other first lady has ever done anything like that. And no doubt it was our taxpaying money that paid for it. You look up to a woman like that? When maybe you would like to buy something and can't. Wake up!!!

Comparing Laura Bush to Michelle Obama is like comparing Mother Teresa to Michelle Bachmann!

No matter what good she does, and she does plenty, the narrow minded, right wing bigots will find fault with her. They are the masters of hate. Such stupid bubbas they are. Obama 2012

I'm thinking that those of you so in love with the Obamas need a good set of hearing aids and a new pair of glasses. Maybe then you'll be able to clearly see and hear what they are up to. The direction we are currently being taken is so obviously the wrong one that it amazes me that you all can't see it too...

That is, of course, yours and every other conservatives opinion. When you look at what the Obamas have done from a middle standpoint, you can't hate them. Disagree with them on some points yes, but not hate them. The FACT is that there are people that think that the country is going in the right direction. Based on what you've said, they are all wrong and you are right. Where's the logic in that? Why don't you turn up YOUR hearing aid and listen up for a second, or maybe you'd rather put on a pair of glasses instead. Whether or not this country is going in the right direction will always be one thing: an opinion. All we can do to make it go in our favor is put our support with the person that we think will take the country in the direction we wish it to go in. You have your candidate and I have mine. Good luck.

I like the way people spin polls. Polls are only good where you take them. You take the poll in a different area your going to get a different result.

Guess this is because the right-wing slime machine hasn't attacked her mercilessly like they do her husband. surprised they haven't taken the time to make up as much crap about him as they do about our president. just looking at some of the posts here, it saddens and frightens me that there are so many people who buy the nonsense the opposition spews. the Obamas are good people who truly care about the American people and our future. that cannot be said for the person trying to replace him.

She might be a nice lady but having never met her it's difficult to say. Some of her Ideas are a little out there but the base of ideas like childhood obiesity is a good start. Telling people what they should do would be a better way to make changes however it seems people today have no concept of work even though they would be better off to get off thier lazy backside and spend less tme in front of the video game and become less reliant on the govt. for a handout.

Don't reward failure with re-election. I work and make more than when Obama came into office sadly I take home less and spend more on gas, utilities, groceries and insurance. I can't afford another 4 years of that. Maybe if I got some of the govt. handouts.

I like Michele Obama and I like Laura Bush. I don't understand why the husbands politics color one's perception of the First Lady. Says lot about how irrational people can become over politics.

And as far as her outfits are concerned – remember, she has a constitutional right to bare arms. 😉

She is absurd in many respects. Complaining about how she doesn't get paid to be first lady and how she wishes she had her old freedoms back so she could take a walk, go shopping, etc., on her own. All of the OTHER first ladies had the same restrictions, yet they didn't cry, "poor me."

She is hungry for recognition, always eager to upstage her husband via her outlandish dress or her self-serving remarks. Did you ever notice how –when she is referring to Malia and Sasha, she says - "My girls...." She never says, "Our girls..." It's as if she is a single parent. Her selfish behavior is obvious and disgusting and the reason no one I know has respect for her nor wants her to represent out country. When she violated protocol when visiting Queen Elizabeth I felt embarrassed for our whole country.
