Dem, GOP senators want to weed $23.6 billion in antiquated payments to farmers

Sudlersville, Maryland (CNN) - When the wind blows the wheat and the corn stalks glisten in the bright sun, it is easy to see why the Schmidt family has farmed Maryland fields for nearly a century.

Hans Schmidt is a third-generation farmer. Ever since he can remember, he has gotten cash payments from the federal government to help manage the risk of farming.

Make all Farmers have to report on their crop only if the crop is damaged (i'e, insects, tornadoes, drought, freeze) and they have to prove that happened (pictures, internet, documentation of the incident)
If there are no problems with the crop, then no need to report anything. The sale of the crop is supposed to balance out their cost measures.

Way over due. Senate & Congress needs to stop the welfare system for large corporations – including the huge conglomerates who own the bulk of farming lands.

    Thomas asked:

Good question. There was a rule change in the Senate, such that it is no longer required to even be present to sustain a filibuster. The individual conducting the filibuster can go home and get 8 hours of sleep.
