Obama administration stops deporting young immigrants

Washington (CNN) - In an election-year policy change, the Obama administration said Friday it will stop deporting young illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children if they meet certain requirements.

The shift on the politically volatile issue of immigration policy prompted immediate praise from Latino leaders who have criticized Congress and the White House for inaction, while Republicans reacted with outrage, saying the move amounts to amnesty - a negative buzz word among conservatives - and usurps congressional authority.

Wolf Blitzer's full interview with Janet Napolitano airs Friday afternoon on CNN's "Situation Room," from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET

To Obama 2012 – BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of FAILURE -

BUSH was the dictator. BUSH violated his oath of office by not upholding the Constitution. BUSH ripped the bill of rights apart. BUSH was the dictator.

I really don't know what world you live in, but it's not the real world where the rest of us are.

Bush should have been impeached, imprisoned and left in Leavenworth for the crimes he committed. Still, nothing's happened. Why not? He's not only guilty, he's admitted to his crimes publicly!

I don't know what world you live in, but it's not the real world. BUSH was the dictator. BUSH violated his oath of office. BUSH violated the bill of rights. BUSH invaded a country we weren't at war with. BUSH destroyed the economy. you really need to stop listening to Fox news. It's tabloid journalism at its worst and they don't have a clue about a fact or the truth.

  4. The GOP has no common sense

I'm Cherokee. I want everyone who isn't Native American deported back to their home countries. It doesn't matter if they were born here or not - the GOP don't care if someone is born in America of American parents - look at the embarrassment they became about the president's birth certificate that was produced several times. Everyone except native Americans are illegal immigrants and must be deported.

Actually, it is the state of Florida and its's governer that is in violation of federal laws. The laws are quite clear. You cannot purge voter rolls within 90 days of an election. Florida waited too late to begin this action. They dropped the ball on themselves. The local voting supervisors have enough on their plates without having to deal with these issues.

  6. November 2012 -- IMPEACH OBAMA, the lawless leftist dictator that violates his oath of office EVERY DAY

Our elected Congress critters and Senators had better NOT let this stand. Obama and his leftist cabal just rendered their job NULL AND VOID. Obama has told them "I need you for NOTHING. I can do as I wish, your laws mean nothing to me."

Obama, Napolitano and Holder have spit on the Constitution, our elected representatives and the American people, the LEGAL CITIZENS of this nation that they are supposed to represent and work for.

Tell youwhat, Desmond in Canada... we'll let the illegal aliens use the country as a pass through to yours, ok? Then they can put the stress on YOUR healthcare system... YOUR public education system... and they can take seats at the universities the rest of the world is storming into your country to attend away from your citizens. Deal?

I also agree with Rudy. My grandparents were immigrants, "legal" immigrants that helped build America. They took nothing from the government and payed their taxes. Also, who is paying for these illegal children to go to school?? The already over burdened tax payer, that's who. I don't think Obama cares about anyone in this country, he just wants to be reelected. I hope this backfires on him.

This is going to BLOW UP in his face. The FEW Latino votes he will get will be overshadowed by the HUGE number of non-Latino voters who will recoil at this favoritism at a time when unemployment among anglos and blacks is at an all time high. Obama can't have it BOTH ways!

Illegal immigration is at record lows, and deportations are at record highs. These are FACTS that no Republican administration can ever boast of. It's just the brainwashed right-wing lemmings who are insulated from reality who believe otherwise.

Healthcare, education and jobs are already here for immigrants. They come from all over the world, not just across the border south of us.
This is a good step in the right direction. Why should we punish a child who had no say in their parents coming here when they weren't supposed to? Most of them come for the better opportunities we have to offer.
If we let others in from other countries, what right do we have to tell the Latinos, "no thanks"?

Guys, Obama just won re-election. 800,000 plus youth of illegal immigrants will be voting for him. Why even bother in November.

  13. Born of native American and immigrants

This is a good thing. It's not an amnesty, it's not a pardon. It's a 2 year deferment. This is a good thing for young people who came here under no power of their own to become citizens of the country they grew up in. But then again, Obama is a good president who is doing the right thing despite the evil of the GOP trying to destroy this country.

Certainly this move was intended to be a political victory but obviously the outrage from American across the country shown here is going to make it a political burden. Here's how he can fix it.

He needs to come out today and throw Janet Napolitano under the bus and say that she had misspoken on this matter and that he is regretfully accepting her resignation since she wants to take full responsibility for this error. If he does not do something like this, Democratic congressmen who hope to themselves be reelected need to come out quickly distancing themselves from the Obama Administration and demanding to know why it is willfully refusing to enforce laws that are clearly in place. Actually, he is kinda throwing them under the bus right now by not letting them be a part of this decision.
