Nominee for ambassador to Iraq withdraws from consideration

Washington (CNN) - Brett McGurk, President Obama's pick to be ambassador to Iraq, has withdrawn from consideration following revelations about questionable conduct, an administration official said Monday.

"We greatly appreciate Brett's years of service on behalf of the United States, to include tireless and effective leadership in Iraq from the height of the war to the moment our last troops left Iraq in December and through the challenging transition earlier this year," National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement.

Major GOP donor eyes $100 million in donations

Washington (CNN) – Fresh off a major donation to the pro-Mitt Romney super PAC, Nevada billionaire and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson is expected to continue his support for some other GOP causes and may donate as much as $100 million this campaign cycle, a source with knowledge of his donations told CNN.

He doesn't want to put all his eggs in one basket, according to the source, and wants to see how the groups to which he contributes perform before deciding whether to give more.

BLITZER’S BLOG: New Details on Obama’s Hawaii Birth

(CNN) – For some of the so-called birthers out there, there’s probably nothing that will convince them that President Obama was actually born in Hawaii.

But for those who might still have even a little bit of an open mind, they should read David Maraniss’ new book on the president, “Barack Obama: The Story.” Maraniss provides new details of Obama’s birth, including a contemporaneous letter referring to the birth of a baby to a Caucasian mother and an African father.

Sunny Romney predicts Wisconsin win

Janesville, Wisconsin (CNN) – Mitt Romney's feel-good tour of small-town America rambled onward Monday with stops in Wisconsin, where the sunniness outside seemed to be reflected by the presumptive GOP nominee.

"You know what, we're going to win Wisconsin," he told an audience of about 900 supporters in the battleground state, echoing a confident declaration he'd made in Pennsylvania earlier on his bus tour.

Ann Romney 'excited' her horse Olympic-bound

(CNN) – Ann Romney will not be riding her dressage horse Rafalca at this summer's London Olympics, but she said Monday she was still proud to represent the United States in the global competition.

"I am so excited honestly to be able to represent the United States," Romney said in a radio interview with WJR's Frank Beckmann. "I have a horse that is going to be fighting for gold in London and I am very excited about that. Wow! It has been a dream of mine for a long, long time, ever since I was a little girl."

Romney's 'Doing Fine?' becomes '¿Van Bien?'

(CNN) – Mitt Romney unveiled a Spanish language version of an English ad he released last week targeting President Barack Obama's record on the economy, days after the president announced a new policy aimed at stopping the deportation of some young illegal immigrants.

Monday's translated spot, "¿Van Bien?," mirrors the "Doing Fine?" spot made public by the campaign Thursday as part of a media buy in seven battleground states. The campaign did not respond to a request for comment regarding where the Spanish version will run.

Romney's confounding position on carried interest

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - What does Mitt Romney really think about carried interest?
The tax break, which benefits private equity partners, continues to save the Republican presidential candidate millions of dollars in taxes after a pioneering career at Bain Capital.

Romney has, in the past, explicitly called for keeping the tax benefit in place. But this election cycle, even when asked directly, the candidate has not clearly articulated a position.
