DNC Chair: Republicans are on a witch hunt

(CNN) - The head of the Democratic National Committee on Wednesday hit back against claims the Obama administration is using executive privilege to cover up facts in the so-called Fast and Furious case.

"It's clear that this is nothing more than a political witch hunt to distract from the fact that Republicans in Congress have no interest in focusing on what we need to focus on, which is jobs and the economy," Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

A House committee voted along party lines Wednesday to cite Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress over documents sought by the panel investigating the botched gun-running sting.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama entered the dispute by asserting executive privilege over the documents sought by committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-California

Wasserman Schultz, however, claimed Republicans were taking advantage of the issue to distract from voting on two major pieces of legislation this summer involving transportation and student loan interest rates.

The GOP are clearly domestic terrorists, and should be treated as such. Anyone that supports them is guilty of giving aid and comfort to the enemy, and should face the same consequences as the GOP, which should be imprisonment and / or execution.

Does she mean a witch hunt like the one Democrats conducted on Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers under Bush? Talk about Democrats forgetting the past.

    Where are the jobs?
Is this case going to create jobs? I sense a lot more desperation yet to come from the Republicans. Like a boxer down in points who starts flailing away as we get later into the rounds...
The Republicans are going to try and hurl so much mud at the President it won't be funny. Will any of it have to do with jobs or fixing the economy or anything else of substance..?

I suspect not. Heck, they might start criticizing how many times a day he feeds his dog before they put forth an actual solution towards anything.

But Obama is cool headed. AND he knows what type of people he's dealing with now.
    Let the witch hunts begin.

Why doesn't she call Agent Terry's family and tell them that. They need answers on this and I don't care who's involved be it republican or democrat they should be punished for what happened to Agent Terry. Why won't Holder release the papers? What is Holder covering up? This is not right.

In every election year...make that very year... you hear which political party is better than that one in this country, who is the bigger liar, crook, philanderer, and every other vile occupation one can think of. It is well past the time to stop thinking along narrow and ignorant ideological party lines and to start thinking about what is actually good for the country.
The old republic is dying, something in our society is about to give, and if we don't wake up to these facts and return to what made us great as a people, nevermind as a country...well, just read your ancient Roman history and you will know what is coming. We need pragmatism, not politics.

OPinions vary a lot. I think, just like obamas college records, birth certificate, and contempt of congress by not letting the fact be shown who is the guilty party in this gun running scandal. Its all a big cover up and if they did not have nothing to hide? Then whats the problem here?

Americans are dead because of Fast and Furious, and Reb. Wasserman Schultz thinks this is a witch hunt? Out of touch with reality.

Couldn't agree more about the witch hunt comment. I'm sure there are going to be some posts here about the dismay with their "President" - well, where I say the larger issue is with Congress and putting this on the forefront rather than working on things that people want. So, for the nay sayers, recognize what this effort is about and what the congress is not doing!!!

No witch hunt here....just provide the documents....if you don't its a cover-up. And somebody hand Wasserman a crying towel. She alone can cause dems to turn to the other party. Brutal!

why is the NRA and repubs blocking every effort to stop hundreds of thousands of automatic fire going to Mexican drug cartels every year, as they scream that the dems are trying to take their second amendment to carry gun away. if these lying repubs was so distrout about this border guard getting killed, they would have been writing legislation to get guns out of the Mexican cartels hands, but instead, they are contrapting a. conspiracy theory that the attorney general did this to rise American fears about gun running, so that they will agree with Democrat to take away their guns. why isn't the repubs investigate the NRA and the bush attorney genera! who started this whole gun running mess.

    The facts:
bush began a program to track weapons that go to mexico and obama kills it!
isn't the committee's job to investigate the whole issue?

That's because it's pretty clear it is a witch hunt. Issa promised when he was elected that he would go after Obama on any little thing he could find. That's all Republicans do now with Democratic Presidents. They try to impeach them and when they can't? They go after anyone related to his Cabinet. All rather than actually voting on any of Obama's Jobs bills. All instead of trying to find real solutions to real problems facing America. Nah, why do that when they can waste 3 years of taxpayer money on investigating a program that G.W Bush created. Guess the fact that he created the program and HUNDREDS of guns in 2007 were sent into Mexico meant nothing to Issa. Why? Because that means dirtying a Republican President who already had the second lowest approval rating in U.S HISTORY. And it was 1 point from tying the worst.

So my question to Issa is this, in 3 years of investigating this and after having recieved THOUSANDS of pages from Holder that he did comply on. What did you find? Well, obviously nothing. No you decided that the nearly 9000 pages you have already in your possession aren't enough and are now calling for a coverup because Holder decided to withold only a handful of the nearly 9000 already handed in because as it was said, it would endanger agents in the field. Another thing Republicans never cared much about, endangering their own agents.

To say this Country should be sick to death of the coniving Republican party is a complete understatement.

So republicans have no problem when Bush and Cheney uses executive privilege to prevent members of the Bush administration from having to produce any documents or testify before congress about, among other things, what information we actually had prior to the Iraq wall, and about the Plume scandal. Neither did republicans object when Sarah Palin used her state's executive privilege from preventing not only members of her administration from testifying against her administration, but also to protect her husband (not a member of her administration despite appearances to the contrary) from being subpoenaed...in fact if memory serves they applauded her as standing up to the "liberal hatemongers". However, when the Obama administration uses to same privilege to stop the craziness after having first willing produced over 7 thousand documents, over 2 million emails and many many hours of testimony (all at the cost of millions of tax payers dollars) to the Republican led committee, a committee which has still yet to uncover anything illegal about the Bush era-initiated fast and furious program, somehow the Republicans think its okay to yell foul and start screaming about "contempt"???

Come on CNN, try reporting the full story-explain the history of Executive Privilege and what has already been willingly produced. There is no scandal here, except perhaps for the scandal that the GOP is so interested in demonizing Holder and Obama, that they are continuing with an investigation long after any investigation under any administration would have stopped. Watch out republicans...you are setting precedent. If you are willing to do this to Holder, then there is no reason to think the Democrats will hold back when your guy is in office.

Schultz is the most generic congress person out there. Constantly divisive & without any substance. In all actuality a terrible public speaker also. When she gets distracted or defeated in a debate it is very much a basket of joy to watch here attempt to get back on point! She is wonderful folly!!!
