(CNN) - Former Gov. Tommy Thompson leads Rep. Tammy Baldwin in a Wisconsin race for the U.S. Senate according to a new poll, which also shows President Barack Obama six points ahead of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the state.
Thompson, a Republican, has 49% support in a matchup against Baldwin, a Democrat who scored 41% in the Marquette University poll of likely voters released Wednesday.

In the presidential race, Obama leads Romney, 49% to 43%, the poll showed. Republicans have suggested the state is in play for them this November, especially after Republican Gov. Scott Brown survived a recall vote there earlier this year.
The CNN Electoral Map rates the Badger State, with its 10 electoral votes, as leaning in Obama's favor.
Thompson leads the field of Republicans vying for the office with 34%.
Twenty-five percent of Republican voters surveyed said they were unsure who they would support in the August 14 primary.
The other Republicans - former Congressman Mark Neumann, businessman Eric Hovde and Assembly speaker Jeff Fitzgerald - each had less than 20% in the primary race.
Baldwin is not the only Democrat in the race, but is the best known and the only one included in the poll's results.
The survey showed Baldwin either tied or ahead in matchups against the other three Republicans.
It also showed Republicans as having an edge in enthusiasm: 93% of Republicans said they would vote this November, compared to 85% of Democrats and 78% of independent voters who said the same.
The race is to fill the seat currently held by retiring Sen. Herb Kohl, a Democrat. The state's other senator is Republican Ron Johnson.
The survey had a sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 points and included 707 registered Wisconsin voters contacted by telephone between June 13 and June 16.

Don't think you'll see this post either.
Wisconsin voters are too polite to tell pollsters they are going to vote Obama out in November. Instead they'll just do it in the privacy of the voting booth this November, while they're sending another Republican to the Senate.
I think it is easy for anyone from the average working class in America support the GOP when they figure out that Obama has never been in the real world, this is a guy who attended Punahou School 5-12 grade which is private, expensive, for the elite kids and his grandmother was the Vice President of The Bank of Hawaii and was able to pay for this extremely expensive tuition. So, yes Obama's childhood was better than most kids attending public school. Let's stop potraying Obama as one of the working class Americans.
