Political squabbling over student loans continues

Washington (CNN) - With time running out for Congress to prevent a doubling of interest rates on federal student loans, the White House and Republican leaders exchanged accusations Thursday on who was to blame for the lack of an agreement.

President Barack Obama chided Republicans for holding up a deal with unreasonable demands, and he urged college students to continue raising their voices on the issue.

To increase the taxes (interest) on student loans should not be a way to get revenue. It penalizes people for trying.

To try to cut women's health in order to keep the taxes (interest/revenue) at the same rate is war on women.

Remember these are Republicans who always say they "worry about our children's future" and then on the other hand deny student loans for your education which has everything to do with your future. With friends like Republicans, who needs enemies.

Here is a bit of reality for you CNN readers who are not allowed to read the truth: The interest rate increase would only affect new loans starting form next year, second its only for the portion of studenyt loans guarenteed by the Govt. The max any student can recieve is less than $5000 per year making the difference in their payments about $10 to $20 per month. The Liberal media/Dem paropaganda machine will not report this because it gets in the way of their scare tactics.

Thank god we can get more fair and ballanced information these days.

  6. Vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

I am STILL paying student loans and this is not like it was a grant or a gift...it's a LOAN for God's sake and trust me if you DON'T pay it back or fall way behind Uncle Sam WILL get his money. I fail to see why the GOP has an issue with this or is it just because it's something that Obama wants and as always they HAVE to be against it.

The Republican-majority House has passed its version of the measure, which Obama has threatened to veto.

Why does Obama feel it necessary to use students as political pawns? All politics all the time. At least he is consistent.

The party of No is hard at work again. Can't pass job bills, only wants to go after womens rights (no to equal pay, wants to get rid of Planned Parenthood funding, violence against all acts).
Getting down to Student loan rates is just like the rest of it. Sit on it, Sit on it, Sit on it.
Elections will eventually come around and they should be concerned.

Republicans don’t care about Education. Republicans have never cared about education. They are too afraid of losing their uneducated base in red state trailer park America.

  16. Obama 2012 - MOVE Forward America, NOT another round of DUBYA's FAILURES

I absolutely refuse to force my kids into $40-$100K of Govt debt at the ripe old age of 23 (at graduation time) in order to get a college degree. Since they (twins) are not Natl Merit Scholars, Govt loans are their only option for 4 yrs of college (unless they go the Jr. College route). Yet the Grand Obstructionist meat heads want to increase the rate and force even more people out of college due to costs! It doesn't impact them.. why do they care. When are they going to start worrying and doing something about the future of this country instead of given the 1% tax breaks they don't need or starting wars ??

It doesn't matter that the President wants to help students.
It's cheaper to buy a car with low rates than to get an education. I guess sanatorium was correct. Not everybody has to go to college but I bet those Asians taking our jobs now have an education above anything we see here in the US (and it's not home schooled).

I'm flattered. Karl Rove is a sharp guy with some excellent ideas. So thank you, but this is my own input. I really do care about the future of this country. It feels like I'm watching my Rolls Royce ( no I don't really own one ) being taken for a joy ride.
