Senate passes massive farm bill
Washington (CNN) - Senators approved a giant farm bill Thursday that is estimated to cut the deficit by almost $24 billion, largely by ending direct payments to farmers and replacing them with taxpayer- subsidized crop insurance to assist farmers in need.
Passage of the bill, by a vote of 64-35, was a rare agreement in a chamber that has been fractured by partisan gridlock over much of this session.

This was a trillion dollar spending bill. How come the Tea Party, and the conservative budget hawks were not ranting against all of this spending. This measure is the biggest spending bill in US history. The silence is deafening.
Het Rudy, the House still has to take it up, we'll see what they do. As John Mcain said it replaces spending in one area only to replace it in another...typical Senate bull. Likely the House will change it, Ried will not allow a conference committee and it will die until the adults take charge again in Jan.
Farm bill is the GOP baby, if you don't know it. They suck your milk. now, get the job bill pass, get the student loan bill pass.
Will this cut into poor Michelle Bachmann's subsidies for her family farm? Poor thing.

I'm not understanding what you're reading when it says it will cut the deficit by $24million, don't get me wrong because I'm usually on the same page with you when I read your comments.
So will this cut M. Bachman It is a shame that this she-man has been ripping off the goverment all these years and get away with it. I hope there is a hot place in hell for her or him.
The article says the Senate Bill SAVES $24 billion. The article DOES NOT tell us how many hundreds of billions ARE SPENT in the bill.
And when will Congress faze out the totally wasteful subsidy for Corn Ethanol?
Before we cut funding to farmers just cut salaries and Medicare benefits to entire Senate and CONGRESS idiots....obama12.

Gurgy, I agree. Most individuals in Congress are lawyers. Believe me, the one thing a lawyer knows how to do is take your money! There is no way they will stop making government payments to their selves.
