(CNN) - Some Republicans took issue with an off-color tweet by the Democratic National Committee's executive director on Thursday, immediately following the Supreme Court's announced decision to uphold the federal health care law.
"It's constitutional. Bitches," Patrick Gaspard wrote on Twitter.

Thirty minutes later, the DNC official, who once served as the White House political director under President Barack Obama, offered a semi-clarification.

However, that didn't stop a snowballing uproar to play out on Twitter. As of Thursday mid-afternoon, the message had been re-tweeted more than 1,650 times, with both positive and negative reactions.
Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus called on his counterpart, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to condemn the remarks.

The RNC's press secretary, Kirsten Kukowski, also responded to the tweet, calling it "inappropriate."

Earlier, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the body in charge of getting Republicans elected to the House, quickly re-tweeted Gaspard's original tweet, coupled with its own message.

Others, however, were slightly more amused by Gaspard's remark. Here's a smattering:

The DNC did not have an official comment.
The Republican fake outrage machine is alive and well I see.
We've all posted things in haste or excitment and later settled down. What would have happened if the RWNJ's said something nasty, oh wait, are are saying nasty things. Guess all's fair in Love and War after all.
I agree with the tweet ! if the shoe was on the other foot they would have said worse so there you have it
I couldn't have said it BETTER to the nutjob GOP & the TEABAGGERS!
Thanks Rep Patrick Gaspard!!!!
YOU ROCK!
Tempest in a Tea pot. Yawn.
Well it is. And they are.
The tweet was quite fine. It was all about excitement. Even what republicans have been saying shoving healthcare down their throats, can they now say the same to Chief Justice Roberts??? It was really annoying to hear that for us Dems.
awwwwww. Poor GOP gets schooled and throws a tantrum because of a tweet. Like THEY'VE never done THAT before (sending something inappropriate). At least it only took 30 minutes to be amended. Not like the days it usually takes any GOP'er to. It was dumb of Gaspard to do yes. However, the GOP comments are beyond funny, especially K Kukowski.
You were warned America, and you refused to listen.
Obamacare will be the destruction of your healthcare system.
Obama spending and debt will be the destruction of your country.
Obama violating, ignoring and not enforcing laws will be the destruction of your liberty.
You were warned America, and you refused to listen.
Your LAST CHANCE to listen is November 6, 2012. After that, it will be too late. Obamaggedon.
For a second I thought gaspard was just doing his best Jesse from Breaking Bad impression.
With all the cries by Republican elected officials that they will repeal the law, I have one thing to say to them: You have sworn an oath to uphold the law, this is now the law, just do it. If the decision had gone the other way, we'd be forced to listen to your caca phony about how wonderful Scalia, Thomas, and Alito are. Your poblem is that you want one set of laws for yourselves and another set for the poor, liberals, Muslims, gypsies, Jews, and immigrants. If that's what you want, why don't you ask Romney and Issa to buy an island where you can all move and have it your way? They already have enough of their money in offshore bank accounts.
Boo-Hoo must feel so proud and respected because as per his own wishes and mandate NO REPUBLICAN has been seen spiking the ball!
Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two words: SHOE. FITS.
They've done NOTHING but that since January 2009. Call a spade a spade.
Why don't you liberals get a JOB and pay your own way for once? I am an independent. Both the dems and repubs smell awful. Obama will NOT get re-elected without the independent vote which he lost today!
Yeah, because they wouldn't have done the same thing had the supremes ruled in their favor! LOL!!!
Quite obviously a Chappelle Show reference.
I know the French word for "shower", and the rethugs are all acting like one right now!
"Obama spending and debt will be the destruction of your country."
You mean the spending that has risen during Obama's presidency at the lowest rate (1.3%) in comparison to the rates at which it rose during the presidencies of Reagan (8%+), GHWB (4%+), Clinton (3%+) and Dubya (8%+)? Heck, the only other president in the past 32 years that comes close, second but still over twice as much as Obama for slowest increases in federal spending, is also a Dem. NUMBERS DON'T LIE.
nice to see the republicans crying, because they had been sending plenty of those messages before the court ruled
GOP is a cult....drive these idiots of 3rd century out....out.
The Dem's are finally waking up. Great job. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I think CNN's Political Unit people would have reacted just a little bit differently if the shoe were indeed on the other foot. This is the Democratic National Committee's executive director expressing his and all liberal Dems feelings and I believe it truly is a reflection of what liberals think of the American people.
Disgusting and very sad. I pray we have the intelligence to vote these people out in November.
Who can blame them? The Democrats haven't had a win in several years. America has been very Republican – friendly since 2010. This little 'win' means a lot even though the whole program goes away next year.
Oh, good grief gop grow up! Your behaving like spoiled children who didn't get their way. They won and you lost. I seem to recall an announcement a few days ago by the gop saying not to 'spike the ball' when they won. Does anyone really believe they wouldn't have? They were so busy patting themselves on the back and celebrating their 'win' I'm surprised that they even noticed they didn't!
HA! This is hilarious!!!!
He's Rick James.........
