(CNN) - Some Republicans took issue with an off-color tweet by the Democratic National Committee's executive director on Thursday, immediately following the Supreme Court's announced decision to uphold the federal health care law.
"It's constitutional. Bitches," Patrick Gaspard wrote on Twitter.

Thirty minutes later, the DNC official, who once served as the White House political director under President Barack Obama, offered a semi-clarification.

However, that didn't stop a snowballing uproar to play out on Twitter. As of Thursday mid-afternoon, the message had been re-tweeted more than 1,650 times, with both positive and negative reactions.
Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus called on his counterpart, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to condemn the remarks.

The RNC's press secretary, Kirsten Kukowski, also responded to the tweet, calling it "inappropriate."

Earlier, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the body in charge of getting Republicans elected to the House, quickly re-tweeted Gaspard's original tweet, coupled with its own message.

Others, however, were slightly more amused by Gaspard's remark. Here's a smattering:

The DNC did not have an official comment.
5terms of GOP presidents, and they did zero to address the health care issue. Before you criticize Pres Obama, whats your plan GOP? Ive seen nothing from Reagan to Bush. They just thumbed their Red noses at the country regarding this issue. Big booyah out to Pres Obama and Chief Justice Roberts for having the stones to make the right call. Congrats gents. -BTB
Can we get over ourselves a little. This is not important to anyone. People can say what they want and should. Congress is so busy being outraged, they aren't getting anything done. More jeans, fewer suits in congress, imo.
Love it. Couldn't have said it better. Shove it down their throats.
Repubs, sell your stock in insurance companies because before long (with the gouging no longer available to them in health policies) they will make a wise business decision dropping health care from their line. Some of them will try and hold on trying to gouge but the market forces will drive them out as well. Soon I expect Walmart to be offering helth care policies based upon Obamacare further driving the premium cost down.... so sell early and fast the days of gouging on health care premiums is fast drwing to a close.
great tweet but congress so lame im surprised they noticed. This may not be the best bill but it is a start Forward. How many years we have tried for health care only to get shot down by the repos. They have had years to fix this but would not. About time that the riches country in the world help it's citizens . No one should have to go bankrupt because they get sick. So call it what you want. if it is socialized meds so what? tired of only a few getting ahead. Taxes only apply if you refuse to purchase insurance. If you are workin or on medicare medical or va you are covered. Stop your repo lies. About time we get as good a cares as the rest of the world. It may take time to work it out but better than nothing from the party of NO. Obama 2012 the only person running for president who cares about Americans .God Bless America Forward.
Could have been better stated, but it really is time for the US to enter the civilized world and offer a way for everyone to afford health care. Is the Act perfect? Probably not, and especially not until we hopefully find a way to offer universal health care for all. But it is a giant step forward.
Republicans are always yelling about something is unconstitutional but now that the Health care bill has been deemed constitutional and they are still yelling. Dems can also say the comment was freedom of speech as they have often used when they disrespect this president with namecalling and interuptions.
Well said....come talk to me when you have to pay some of your hard earned money you use to pay your rent or car payment for health insurance...yep...lets just keep the have nots down..thanks dems
Republicans are funny....now, that want to make healthcare a privilege instead of a right.

Didn't your ilk say the same thing about "Obamacare"? Hey bob, let's meet back here on November 7 and talk about this, m'kay?
It is so very hard for me to fully understand, this is liberal and this is conservative thing. I will leave that to the politicians who have lost all common sense and truthfulness.
Chief Justice Roberts has for now restored my sense of being. The ruling about the Affordable Care Act, of which he is a part of means a ton for millions of people. I urge all so called conservatives to learn from him and care about the common good and not for the few.
jpmichigan, only those who make more than 133% above the poverty rate will be "taxed" – IF they refuse to take responsiblity for themselves. Think of the "tax" as a down payment for the next time you show up at the ER with the sniffles. Instead of responsilble Americans picking up your tab, YOU will be paying your own way.
Every now and then, the real contempt that Obama et al has of America comes through.

It's all about personal responsibility. Howsabout you give up your cell phone, flat screen TV, smokes and $4 fru fru coffee and you'll have more than enough to take responsibility for yourself? My brother in law was whining about how he can't afford to pay for health insurance, yet he spends $7 a day for a pack of cigarettes and at least $20 a day EVERY SINGLE DAY at the liquor store. That's upwards of $10k a year – on unhealthy stuff that surely would have cost every single one of us had ACA not been enacted.
Get some cheese for the whine.
It was still a great day yesterday for the Heritage Foundation. Personal responsibility for all! No more free-riders, celebrate GOP.
How surprising an Investment advisor who isn't for ACA. Whats the matter afraid your stock in United may go down
